  • he gives an nlp suggestion by showing them what to play like before the beginning of the game he shows scissors and he knows he will play scissors... so he goes with rock.

and second trick is people subconciously goes with what will beat their last moves. so the man went with scissors in the beginning so he will throw rock which will beat scissors so derren shoud throw paper.

on third round the man will subconciously throw paper for the same reason on second round, so derren goes with scissors

  • Also note that Derren ANNOUNCES his winning move and GRABS the drunks' hand, to really drill it into their drunk brains that they should copy him.

  • HERE'S HOW HE REALLY DID IT:

There's no NLP, no verbal cue, no 1 second delay. It's rather easy, actually.

First, Derren picks out a drunk, so he'll be easier to fool. He wins the first game through sheer luck. There's a tendency for the drunk to copy Derren's winning gesture. Say, Derren won ROCK versus the drunk's PAPER. The drunk throws ROCK next, to which Derren counters with SCISSORS. The drunk throws SCISSORS next... ad nauseam.

Watch the video again, after reading this. Then smile.

  • Derren's opponent is copying Derren's previous winning move, and Derren is relying on that to counter it. When Derren wins with a rock, the next go his opponent puts up a rock. Derren predicts that and throws paper. Next move, his opponent throws paper, and so Derren throws scissors. Always in this pattern. If one of those guys caught on, they could have used it to their advantage and beat Derren, which is why i think he at the start emphasized the fact that this is at a football stadium LOL

  • is not just a trick .....OMg is subliminal i know to it ! and i always win

  • Rofl htomerif is right.

  • This one when told how to do seems easy but it is quite hard to do.

To do this all you have to do is sublimely tell them which one they are going to

pick (easy enough). The way derren does this is by making “subconscious”

signals to the subject to tell him to pick the one he is signalling.

E.g. on derren brown; mind control 2 when he does this effect he says to the

    subject

  • @Livian2424 Why are you all making such a big deal out of this. This trick, just like most of magic tricks, are all about presentation, that's what makes it look so impressive. He is just choosing the hand gesture that will win the hand he just made before. If there is any kind of suggestion it would be that people tend to choose the hand your opponent just did

  • How does I do what the opponent did last?

    Peoples is funnies.

  • HOLY CRAP! does no one see what the trick is? really!? except for the first time in each sequence, the person Derren is going against JUST DOES WHAT DERREN DID LAST! every time. *facepalm* Come on people.

  • If you watch closely he gestures with a flat hand as he turns around so he could be either 1. telling a paid actor to pick paper or 2. Doing that to subconciously enter the image of paper into his head. :P

  • Sorry about my English, it isn't all that good ;P

  • Their action in their mind would not have been processed in their mind properly and not made sense, something that humans have tried to avoid, this further reinforces the weight of persuasion the Derren imposes on his victims. Do this with your friends, not hard, just: - Do a hand signal (rock paper or scissors) for about 3 seconds in eye view but not noticeable view - Initiate the game quickly - Win

    ;D Hope this helps.

  • Watch his hands just before he starts the next round. He suggests to the other player what they should do, before they even start, sub-consciously, they are most comfortable doing what they are shown. Rock, Paper, Scissors is actually a game of total random happenstance, it is ruined when people think about their next move, when Derren talks really fast and initiates the round while the other person is still getting prepared, the other person has to adopt the option last presented to them or...

  • So fake... or he tried many many times...

  • at 1:40 i can understand it..he had the two before, and with his "okay, last one" he implied that they should make all three at the end

  • Bulbasaur always wins.

  • he basically just go with the fact that his opponent will use the sign he just did.

    BLEW MY MIND

  • Not everyone chooses the thing they just lost to...

  • Easy trick.

  • I declare witchcraft!

  • @poptartcannibal witchcraft is different than this by far.

  • At 1:56 his hand makes a paper motion and then the opponent proceeds to do paper

  • Darren does all of his tricks by telling the other person subliminally what to do. In this video you can see when he is talking to people he will point using scissors hand while talking (see the end). Or embed what he wants them to do in his speech.

  • Easy, thats my tactic too.

  • Derren is just damn quick. There's always a 1/2 second delay. If you download the vid and slow it down with VLC it becomes more obvious.

When Derren turned around he looks directly into the camera for a split second. That's when he saw that the other guy chose paper. Good for Derren it was cloudy that day :D

  • @borstenpinsel Yeah, when you slow down everything you just about have enough time to think about it, but unfortunately Derren cannot bend time. Don't make stupid assumptions.

  • @UerMom He doesn't have to. This guy is smart, quick and he knows his stuff. Just because you can't do it, doesn't mean Derren doesn't do it. So you're saying my assumption is stupid, because there's no way he can't look quickly enough. You'd rather believe that he has some weird psychic powers?

Derren is a trickster just like any other magican or mentalist. And he's good at what he's doing. Doesn't change the fact, that he doesn't have psychic powers.

  • @borstenpinsel You're posted that 3 weeks ago, yet somehow you're back into discussing him in no time like it was yesterday, you weirdo.

  • @UerMom So you're turning this "discussion" about Derren into personal insults against me? May I ask how old you are?

I'm back to discussing everything in not time. Got a problem with that? It's not like this video or Derren as a person and mentalist was only interesting 3 weeks ago. If you think so, I feel very sorry for you.

  • @borstenpinsel I appreciate your comment, specially the "May I ask how old you are" and "I feel very sorry for you" parts. Honestly thanks for the concern but I'm fine.

  • Notice at the beginning how when he says "we'll play rock paper scissors and you go 1 2 3 and you do something" then notice how he does scissors on his hand to subconsciously influence the guys mind to pick scissors and he does. then all derren does is pick the move that beats the move that he did last, because they tend to want to repeat Derren's move.

  • @markansas101 your such a sucker....don't you know they film and film until he gets one person where it looks like he can manipulate them....sounds like you've been watching too much Derren Brown if you think he subliminally influenced him....

  • this is why i play Bear, Ninja, Cowboyy

  • @myk3wuzhea what's the hand motion for a ninja?

  • @Th3Bak3dNinja You just stand there like you're going to karate chop someone lol

  • @myk3wuzhea lol...

  • The first guy is slow as fuck... he doesn't know how to play.

  • this is why you play rock, paper, scissors, lizard, spock

  • At 0:40 he makes a gesture to the spectators of scissors, and his opponent plays scissors. At 0:51 he makes a gesture of scissors to his opponent, and his opponent plays rock, thinking he will play scissors. That's all I can come up with. Not sure about the others.

  • I can do that but NOT without looking.

  • The guy just went in order each time no matter what, that was kinda funny.

  • I learn't how to do this and oh boy do I make money out of this!

  • Umm, he's just arcing his hand through the air more slowly than the other guy, so it seems like he's made a choice at the same time but really he only chooses what to play just before his hand reaches the center, which is long after his opponent has already placed his hand there. ~0:50 is the most obvious

  • @mcgrawcm1

that is the most ridiculous theory I've heard. Why dont you observe more carefully, when he wins with rock, scissor or paper the opponent chose the winning sign after. For example, when derren wins with rock, the next time they play rock paper scissors the opponent will choose rock.

    thats mind fuck right there

  • read people so well, but I do find some of his performances to be somewhat suspicious, as was the case with this video.

  • like planning the moves of him and his "volunteers" beforehand, instead of trying to predict them or basing them on timing alone. There is no way to prove this however, and I guess all one has left is to simply enjoy these performances or, if unable to see past the incredulousness of it all, proceeding to simply not watching them. I guess I am still unsure about which of these may be the right choice for me, for I do enjoy his apparent psychic abilities and his capableness to

  • @pancupancu214 He uses command words before the round starts. But I'm not sure it works on the first one.He said 3 rounds and I'll win. After he won he said "My stone glumps your SCISSORS" Then proceeded before the round started to use the peace sign or in this games case scissors. It's all about command words which registers the mind to follow what he has filled his mind with.

  • the way his fingers are placed when forming the scissors, as they seem to have been leaning more towards an open hand. In the third round, he clearly brings out his paper way before Derren brings out his scissors. I found the rest of the rounds with the other "volunteers" to be equally skeptical. Upon further reflection, I've come to think that if Derren does stage his performances, he would probably do it in a much more efficient way than simply improvising his fraud, something

  • I'm somewhat of a Derren Brown fan, so naturally, I tried to look past or make mental justifications of the fishyness of this video, but I've come to the conclusion that some are just to obvious to dismiss. In his battle with the first "volunteer", all but the second round were skeptical. In the first round, it almost seems like the "volunteer" appears to have brought out paper first, but upon realizing that Derren has chosen rock, diverts to scissors. I say this because of

  • the large majority of people choose scissors first because it feels the most natural. I started using this when I was 9 years old and our neighborhood would do it to see who was it during hide and go seek. I was never it ha

  • Yeah and how many times did it not work? huh?

  • I think of this like pokemon and at the start the user and his/ her opponent have all three starter type pokemon. If you don't know the three types then buzz off. What derren does if first is rock paper "scissors." Most people put scissors first because of the mental connections of speaking and taking action. The opponent is panicked so he is less secure; he will now try using things to counter the last "type" of attack. Then the user has an easy game of countering. It's child's play lol

  • Sounds like Derren is not a huge fan of football, or more precisely its fans ;)

  • In my opinion this is pure COVERT HYPNOSIS:

    - On his first opponent Brown said they were going to play "Paper, Scissor, Stone", and "I (Brown) will win 3 times". His opponent then played exactly "Stone, Paper, Scissor" (because the subconcious wanted him to LOSE)

    - On his second opponent Brown asked about Millwall's winnings instead and distinctly repeated "ok, 3 WINS". His opponent then played exactly " Scissor, Stone, Paper" (because the subconcious wanted him to WIN)

    Watch the vid again ;)

  • brilliant, he is so good at rock paper scissors. so amazing. -_- c'mon.

  • goddam english people, paper scissor stone, cold on the cob, what else will they fuck up?

  • He should try Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock.

  • @NefariousEvildoer What beats Spock?

  • @Hairysteed - Apparently, paper disproves Spock.

  • lol paper scissor stone heh

  • Common street scam of using paid schills. It's easier to have his paid plants copy his previous rock, paper, scissor choice than to have them memorize a long choice sequence.

  • @lunameatball Why would he have to have accomplices. He's a brilliant hypnotist and illusionist. Both of those skills working together can be used for suggestion. Watch more of Derren Brown's videos. Amazing. You can even find videos explaining what is going on. You have to find the right subject, someone who's suggestible and the trick works.

  • On the third one he was way late.

  • the simplest thing is when you win the first time, the next you are going to use is the one that can beat your previous one, only works if you win at the "previous" one.

  • here's how it is done:

Derren Brown makes 2 figures simultaneously to unconsciously trick the opponent's mind: for ex, when he does paper, he makes scissors (very quickly, almost unnoticeable) then paper, the opponent does unconsciously rock to block the scissor he saw but Brown has already changed to a paper and wins over the rock. it works also if he does paper/rock quickly or rock/scissors quickly

to make a draw he does scissors/rock quickly and so on..

  • @ilsontfouscesromains thats not how its done, first off he builds rapport with the subject, makes himself seems friendly and likeable, making contact with a hand shake and holds his arm. next he confuses the guy by saying scissors, paper, STONE. not only does the order break the pattern but saying stone instead of rock confuses him too and sticks out making the subject think derren will pick paper, then scissor, then rock every time. with this pattern in the subjects head derren can keep winning

  • @mrhypnoticmind maybe you're right, but in other videos, I've seen Derren Brown using, and explaining subliminal mind tricking, so I believe that he influences the guys by "showing" them in advance what he is going to do and then changes at the last second to win (I've seen this explanation also on a specialised site) but he most likely uses a combination of methods to influence the guy in front of him with his empathy/ breaking the pattern/ hidden oral message trick

  • @ilsontfouscesromains watching the video once more showed me something else, you were quiet about derren giving them their signal in advanced but he doesnt do it right in the middle of the match. he secretly does it with his hand motions as he talks to the crowd, even when he's facing the other way he shows hidden signals.

  • Paper scissors... STONE???

  • Some more people should make the exact same comment as the previous person telling us all how the trick works!

  • the intro reminds of ali G

  • @dabotz2117 Haha, I was thinking the same thing

  • The magic of video editing. You can cut out every unsuccessful attempt ...

  • @djbanizza No, there is a way to do it, your opponent automatically does what you did last round.. if last round you did scissors, your opponent will do scissors... simple as that ;)

  • I did the same one to someone, except they were fairly smart. I had to figure in the extra steps that they were predicting to win, lol. pretty cool process

  • i noticed the last two. when he turns he holds up the paper or scissors

  • Right before the start the Rock, paper, siccors, When he asks if he should win, lose or draw he makes a rock or paper or a siccor with his hand. Like most of the tricks he does its all about the subconscious.

Because the person notices his Derrans hand doing a rock. His subconsious is likely to choose a rock the next game of ROck, Paper, Siccors..

Watch his hands in the video when he asks if he should win.. You'll see im right.

  • @Jmmerdan You are right man, that's the reason his tricks work for other people cz not everyone knows about subconscious control.

  • Before he starts the first game, he makes scissor shape with his hand 0:34 then he goes rock paper scissors rock then he loses with scissors which means he would have won if he carried out the pattern. He uses a similar pattern with second guy so everyone who says he waits to see what the other guys hand is, clearly haven't thought about it.

  • hes just going a little bit after the guy not a big deal

  • @Fungwabus117 He did it again with out looking at the guy ... explain that

  • Eh, at first he waits to see what the other guy's hand is doing. Then when he looks away, he just gets lucky. I'd like to see him win several in a row while looking away.

Nevertheless, it's impressive that he can react that quickly to someone's hand motions.

  • @riethc it's not magic reactions or someone telling him what the other person is doing. it's simple psychology and it's really easy to do. i've won many a shotgun-calling contest with it

  • Comment removed

  • @felix365clarinet

I don't see it? Does he do it off-camera?

  • The brain is telling him that he has to choose the option that will beat what he previosly used. scissors-rock-paper-scissors-rock.

  • i see how hes winning the other person is going in a cycle paper scissors rock paper scissors rock but hes 1 ahead of them

  • thats simple...i figured that out in grade school

  • @maixiong how? lol

  • i see it now, at :41 he puts out both hands flat, implying paper, making the anonymous person think scissors to win, next he points at him with two fingers implying scissors, making the anonymous guy pick rock, then he emphasizes his fist in his hand making the guy think he's picking rock, and instead chooses scissors.

  • if derren picks rock and wins the next time the opponent chooses rocks.. if he wins with scissors next round his opponent picks scissors and ect.

  • omg, this is absolutely subconscious influence, if you to get the secret, look carefully since 0:41 every his (DB) hands movement before every count 1,2,3. firstly , he creates the image with his fist at first time, then the Guy`s (volunter) subconscious sudenly thinks that DB could show the rock, so he-Guy (if its the real reason, i dont doubt) decides to show the paper, but DB shows rock, DB wins! next time (after first wining), look how DB smoothly "waves" his right hand with scisors

  • @spinazspinaz that made no sense at all. sounded like a retard explaining how to multiply numbers

  • I figured it out.

What he does is he does the one he wants them to do seconds before they start.

So he'll gesture to the audience with scissors, then his opponent will pick scissors. He waves his hand as paper, then they'll pick paper, etc.

The only way you could counter is if you "always pick scissors" or something.

  • Hey I did the same thing...

    But it took 200 takes..

  • Guys, you're overcomplicating this whole thing. It's actually a pretty easy and really cool trick. People tend to pick what would lose to what they just did. For example, if you start on rock, you will tend to pick scissors next, then paper. Mind you, this is only a tendency, and it can be broken by simple overthing the game, lol.

  • these people are amazed by a rock paper sicsors game hahah lozers

  • ninjajesus81.. funny stuff

  • That first guy is apparently too retarded to play rock paper scissors correctly.

  • I actually knew how to do this when I was 8. I didn't learn it anywhere but I remember it being somewhat like following a pattern.

  • notice that after he wins with rock, he says something like, "rock blunt scissors", then the next time the guy chooses rock, and he says, "paper wraps around rock" so they will choose paper next time. probably the trick lies in winning the first time.

  • @danielitro1 That has nothing to do with the trick, I know this trick and it's all subliminal messaging to the opponent.

  • This is very simple, it is all about subcounsious signals, which Derren Brown sends to the guy he is up against. Everytime D.B forms his hands like R, P or S while talking, sending a signal to his opponents subcounsiusness, and then D.B makes his choice afterwards. Of course this is a very hard thing to accomplish, and you would have to wait the right ammount of seconds. But that is how its done - Sorry about the bad spelling

  • could you teach me?? we can trade

  • this one is easy :D

  • they explained this in scam school once

  • scam skool? there is such a thing?

  • its a tv/internet show that shows tricks you can WIn everytime.

  • Nope, but there is a school that will teach you how to spell school the right way.

  • Look at his hand in the end when he asks "win, lose or draw" and they say draw. He holds his hand like a scissor, and the other guy does it.

  • yea i did it on my m8s wkrs most of da tyme

  • Screatus does seem right because he seems to have switched position there.

but Capuchin also seems to be right about the part where you confuse the oponont.

    hmmm, can it be ...both?

  • Every time the opponent did the same choice that they just lost to.

  • bull shit. while he does obviously spend a lot of time filming and picking the best results, derren explains that he is simply looking for the right candidates for NLP to work perfectly on... and most of the time, derren can successfully manipulate the people every try.

  • You can see he stalls it. The 3 beat rhythm throws people. He goes up on the fourth beat when they show theirs and then shows his on the off beat after 4. People are expecting the 4th beat so don't notice the slight delay.

Also they always do whatever Darren did last. If you start the count before they're ready they'll automatically do what you just did because they don't have time to think about their next move.

  • its a trick called stalling.

watch his hands. he never shows his selection first.

and it's banned in competitive RPS touneys. Don't ask how I know that. ha

just takes practice.. on the third try he almost does a four count.. I've seen better.

And the ones he doesn't see.. ehh easier still. accomplices.

  • You can't just accept that he's got a far superior mind and understands the human psyche, can you?

  • wtf there is competitive RPS tourneys???

    thats sooo weird

  • yea lol

  • lol I saw it, I was able to predict what derren showed at at least half of them (I only guessed when i was 90% sure, and had no fails). It was easy, you just have to look intensly for his hands inbetween games. they will show a rock a paper or a siccor. so the people will always choose what derren is holding up for them to pick.

  • Yeah smarter people change it up more. I rarely lose cause I think which move I'd use next, but throw out the one that would beat my first instinct.

  • at 0:35 he shows scissors and 0:41 he gestures with scissors more subtly, I don't know if he does anything else. I think people are inclined to pick the last one the winner picked, subconsiously thinking that they would win since the other guy won with it last time. obviously it wouldn't work on more clever players. I wanna try it!

  • Look closely. The other person ALWAYS throws the hand that Derren did on the previous round. If Derren won round 1 using scissors, the other person will use scissors on the round 2, and so on.

  • True! Awesome.

  • You're right. And he always touches the person after he wins with his hand, which must be the trigger that gets the person to play that one next.

  • what darren does is manipulate the guy by using his hands. if you pay attention to derren hands you can clearly see the hints he gives. in the first scissors game you see deeren hands wide open, that makes the guy pick the scissors and derren the stone. right when he wins, derren points the guy with his fingers as scissors that makes the guy pick stone and so on. just check the hands.

  • Even when he looked the other way? Then he must have had surgery.

  • iTS ROCK PAPER SCISSERS DUHHH SILLY BRITS

  • I as an Australian replied to a similar movie with the same stone name and told them it was rock paper scissors and that it must just be the brits...... you should have seen my inbox fill up with hate mail....

  • i, and every one i know say rock paper scissors, and i am a brit, so it must just be some people

  • at 2:20 he's waving his hand around as scissors,

    subliminal message to his opponent??

  • you are right.. I saw him 3-4 times he does that

watch the video again and you will see it also

  • It's easy to beat people in rock, paper, scissors--most people will quickly choose whatever you beat them with the last time. I wonder if most people choose scissors first?

As someone pointed out, Darren's opponent always picks what he (Darren) just won with. All Darren has to do is keep track of what order he plays--by always doing rock, then paper, then scissors (which beat each other in that order). He can easily make himself lose or draw the same way. Very cool!

  • I have to say that after I made that somewhat confident assessment above, I tried it and felt like a fool after not being all that successful. I think it's a combination of the above and also being able to read people the way a genius like Derren can! You need to be able to tell which (R, P, or S) people are going to start with, and also read when they are going to "lie" or chose against their first choice!

  • i tried what you said at school, i won about 8 out of 10 imes at school, mostly the dumb kids always went scissors to start with, smarter people did any of the 3 more or less evenly. try it on people with lower intelligence,

like what you would find at a football match, lol

  • @jakerobbins how do u do it?

  • he always makes the shape with his hand as he is talking and the guy chooses that shape

  • only at the end of the video i can see that, he shoes a scissor for 1 or 2 seconds

  • amazing

  • It's pretty simple, the other guy always follows what Derren did the turn before.

  • uh wheres the explanation?
