  • Hmmm, fat or slim, strong or weak, muscle or lean, small os tall, young or old, Does all these have importance in martial art??? I've seen green belt beat a black belt in a Jujitsu competition . . . You don't become a good street fighter by your age or body type. In all martial art schools, respect are taught first, so try not to forget the first lecon my friend.

  • I respect the fact they want to learn karate. What I don't understand is how come they got their black belt ? I have some friends who are even yellow belt and have better maegeri. (I am brown belt by the way) I know that the color of the belt doesn't count, it's not everything and I have to train many years to get a true black belt, so be it and I'll be glad. But you can't possibly get a black belt with this level

  • keep in time some ok rest take of that gi

  • too many people in one dojo!! these guys are pretending to be black belts,it is a sad video..no kime and if i had to stomp my foot on the ground after doing a mea geri like they do my sensei would stop, take out my hard landing foot underneath me and i would fall on my face.mae geri is no basai dai, only the sound of gi's snapping and sweat fallling must be heard..ps im 5th kyu, south africa.

  • @Spiral8leaf true

  • @Spiral8leaf I'm 8th kyu UK and I can kick better than some of those 'senseis' who are in kihon. Some of them aren't snapping their leg back which is one of the first things I learned in Karate. Why is America filled with so many McDojos..

  • @PnutButter1986 haha! ive never been to the UK but im sure you got some talent,it is how hard you train after all..oss! good luck with your training.

  • fu ck thos are black belts? wtf in all the videos i see on youtube everybody has blackbelt!...

  • omg bad maegeri for black belt

  • Some people thinks that wearing th GI is enough as training and thats way we see alot of thies guyes here cant excute a good Mae geri

  • Basics of yoko geri keage ...Knee up...hit...snap back.None of them is doing this

  • @MrAllgo maybe its because THEY ARE DOING A F***CKING MAE GERI??

  • I can understand how can a Master like this can not comunicate in English.....

Master Takashina invited him to teach, but unfortunatly he can not speak any English...then the Monkeys just copy him.

  • I thought by the time you have your black belt you should master the first basic kick which is this one. Why waste all this black belt competence on this?

  • @RonnieRocker

the first black belt only means that you now have a basic understanding of the techniques but not that you have mastered them.

  • @Kiesel WELL SAID

  • Comment removed

  • @RonnieRocker is normal training .warm exercises !!

  • where does he teach anything? or TO BE FAIR is that not on this clip?

  • i see alot of comments on blackbelts not trying....usually when a master comes to town all the blackbelts around come out of the woodwork to see him and are not in the best shape, plus Yano prob drilled there dicks into the ground before this and they are exhausted.

  • @brinnonvallere thats what happends every class where i go

  • I only see a handfull of people who'se actually trying..

  • I changed to JKA recently (the best that I have around).. it's similar to the clip. JKA masters say: you have to understand the form, then go for speed; if you can't be fast and correct in technique, slow down....

The reality of JKA trainings are different. they tend to push for speed, giving up on fixing errors, explanation and technique.. I mean if I do something 100 times incorrectly, it won't be correct on 101 try.. if I don't understand how to do it correctly

  • therer are many good karateka but some are not even trying .. i would personally give my best performance. for master yano

  • Many of those black belts does not seem to be in ..their best shape.

  • Waarom die muziek erbij???????

  • Very sloppy again.

I would be ashamed to hold a black belt if it were this easy.

Where has all the dedication and hard work gone?

  • long. You are right. Some of these people have good potential. There does not seem to be much snap or timing in the some students here. As you say, they are mainly lazy. In karate,as with everything else, we can only do our best, and we should do it.

  • how did all these over weight americans get the black belt????

  • @jerryx2000 yeah i wouldn't say that because there are alot of them and they would put they hands on you

  • @abomb10 I am a good sprinter!

  • @jerryx2000 hahahahahaha your smart thats the first part of karate

  • @jerryx2000 SIR YOUNEED TO GO TO SPECSAVERS, i cant see any overwieght Americans there,

  • @jerryx2000 i understand the fat thing, but what does being american have to do with it?

  • @zerordieb87 there is no country with so may fat people. Check out the statistics.

  • @zerordieb87 thats true but that doesnt mean that all fat people are american.

  • @jerryx2000 Ignorance at it's finest.

  • @jerryx2000 Jerry be nice. Thanks to obamacare, all of these nice older retired folks can afford karate training at their nursing home :)

  • Arms are held to to side to perfect balance. They're focusing on perfecting just the kicking mechanics .

  • it is about respect!!!! respect for elwyn hall, ronnie christopher, frank brennan, yahara, dave hazzard, enoeda!!! control and ownership over one's movement is the sign of an advanced fighter be it jiu-jitsu, wing chun, judo. shotokan whatever. all of the negative responses to those who are merely saying what is true is part and partial to the problem we see in this video.

  • Color of your belt must represent the quality of your work, depth of your knowledge and length of creditable experience.

Wishing you the chance of a better grasp of this beautiful art.

  • Wow - so many critical comments displaying such little understanding and such little respect. Respect is at the heart of martial arts - please show some for yourselves.

  • @mcronrn WELL SAID

  • @mcronrn this karate is not martial arts

  • @mcronrn

  • @mcronrn come on....look at the performance we see.i mean we surely should respect each other but blackbelts seem like giveaways sometimes.they are technically at a level of 8th or 7th kyu in my opinion.

  • There doesn't seem to be very much actual teaching going on. No discussion or explanation of proper hip position, no technique evaluation - no feedback.

And, for all you saying "why no guard in shotokan", we do, of course, use a guard. However, when we are trying to isolate movements to work on technique we often ignore our hands completely. Here in Japan our lessons are VERY basic; we often have 30 minutes working on punching and kicking from a static position, before another hour of basics

  • Looks like Sensei Yano it not very happy with this lot, not surprised, this is not Traditional Shotokan Karate.

  • Again I agree with the others, this is very poor standard, too many faults to name, but can't understand why this would be put on Youtube? But I suppose the old saying "None to blind, that can not see"

  • Lol, are they all black belt wait wot. xD

In Shaolin Kempo/Shaolin Kung Fu, this mae geri would be very bad. They should hold their hands in front of them and have more balance, they're like falling to the front after the kick (note the stomping on the floor). And also the way they turn around... In Shaolin you have to watch + hold your defence, turn + block.

Meh, probably just not a fun of Shotokan Karate... ;P

  • You have a good point, man. It doesn't seem like any of them are looking before they are turning. My sensai always says your eyes come first!

  • Lyoto Machida

    kisses you!!!!

  • shotokanshdn: Thanks for your reply, however even in Kihon practice (in our school - Shidokan - kihon dachi is a basic stance to practice all our kicks) should use a guard, not only for defence but also for balance and a better execution of punches or any other hand technique. I believe that years of practice give you the reflex necessary to be used in a fight situation, so if you practice without using a guard, probably in a fight you will not use it.

  • I really don´t understand why shotokan karate training includes mae geri or any kind of kicks without using any kind of guard. They just kick with their arms open hanging on the side, as it is shown on this video. Besides the fact of no using a guard position it makes impossible to block any attack, therefore no protection at all, it is even unnatural because of lack of balance when kicking. This guys are missing one main point in Karate-Do. First defence, then attack.

  • This is Kihon practice, during kumite or a situation that calls for a mae geri you def will have your guard up and protect yourself. And about the first defense and then attack comment, that is true and I am sure they did kata. Every single kata in shotokan starts with a block. :)

    Osu

  • war machines...?? mmh... i don't know....

  • not good training. Sensei is only Counting Machine

  • sounds like a wu tang 36 chambers sample
