I don't hide when I take photos and film. If people ask me what I'm doing, and I tell them. Criminals can collect this plate info as easily as me. However the problem here has been cleared up in part because of my work, and just about the only cars left are the ones with valid placards. I'm not ashamed of my role in helping stop people from illegally parking/abandoning their cars in the middle of Central Park.

The cops dont interact with you because most of them dont know who you are since you hide most of the time when you film this garbage. You like filming police plates? I have personally observed changes in placard abuse by NYPD in response to complaints I've posted to uncivilservants[dot]org. You know as well as I do that cops aren't going to deal with me differently because of what I post here, nor should they.

I think they will, if you are putting the plates online whats to stop you from putting them on your website and taking shots at them there. These guys just want to do a hard job and they always have to second guess themselves. Also, you should be happy you live here. Ive seen some cops toward the midwest and even on highways that really appreciate our police.

Oh and for your info.. the city isnt moving on police parking they are moving on other city agencies who dont need the parking but get it anyway. shows how well you are informed. The car in this video has an expired permit from 2005. The car is parked 24/7 in this spot. I don't even know if this guy is still a cop or ever was.  My point is this guy has no right to park here. Able to wrap your brain around that?

Umm, ok granted that the permit is expired but if he is an officer dont you think by placing the license plate on film you can get him hurt and not the NYPD? I never had a parking permit so I dont know what they are 100% for but, could it be so they park where they need?

Azamuth, thats exactly what these guys are trying to do, in the guise of "public outrage" that cops must park where they park, they want to put cops plates on the web, in hopes that thugs track them down and hurt them...all because these guys once were told they couldnt drink a beer, or were given a ticket for HOV. This borders on harrasment and should be prosecuted.

Ive seen a couple of your videos, and none make any valid point. Cops arent paid enough to live in the city they protect, so they have to drive in. Once they get here, they have to park. God forbid they park in close proximity to their station houses. Ive seen the condition of that central park road they have to drive on every day; it should be fixed, but the Parks Dept wont fix it for fear that some crazy citizen like yourself will cry "Preferential Road Repair for NYPD!!!"

As for the argument about need to drive into the city because the rent is too high: With the price of gas, car payments, insurance and tolls, I seriously doubt if there are any cops saving money by living outside of New York City. Many live on Staten Island and in boroughs other than Manhattan. Illegal parking in those areas is still a major problem.

As for the other posters who claim residents should be happy when cops park illegally on their block because of increased safety: The cops are parked there and are getting into another car and driving somewhere else. That doesn't increase safety on the block where their personal vehicle is parked. Secondly, this is an issue of respect for the laws they are paid to uphold. They should not be held to a different standard than other citizens.

You say the issue here is that the officer is parked illegally. Exactly where do you get that from? Nowhere on this video does it show that he is parked in a spot he doesnt belong. This Freedman character is just going around harrasing people who work for a living. And cops are held to a different standard than everyone else..a HIGHER standard. Please allow them to at least park where the city says they can park so they can continue to keep crime down here. Good Lord.

I got the illegal part from the title of the post. As I said, this video doesn't show much. I am commenting generally on parking abuses in NYC by NYPD officers and others in city government (DOT, MTA, etc).

You clearly understand that this happens. You are certainly right about one thing: NYPD officers and the like should be held to a higher standard. That is why it is frustrating to see them disregard certain parking-related laws.

The issue here is that this officer is parking illegally. I am not sure how many of the previous people commenting live in NYC, but I can tell you from experience that NYPD illegal parking is a serious problem and happens all over the city.

While I agree that this video shows very little, there is a real problem.

As for the first commenter who is upset about the condition of the roads in central park: Cars in a park? Why have them there in the first place? Foot patrols and police on horseback could certainly patrol the park sufficiently.
