  • spelling nazi says: they spelled foresight wrong.

  • REM can be hard to decipher, but the environmental message here rings clear. Top five for sure.

  • @dextermcgrubbin i heard that this song is also about some ancient civilisation who couldn't fathom the purpose of the sky or how it could float above the earth and thus held the belief that it threatened to fall on them.but who knows.

  • @MediAndClaire um, that's interesting.any idea of the name of the people, the country/?

  • Best song REM ever made, hands down

  • fall on me rem x

  • This was the song that I think Michael Stipe called his favorite during the MTV Unplugged concert....I consider it one of their best, too.

  • Bringing these four guys together. Sometimes fate is nothing but wonderful.

  • 'Our disdain for MTV videos culminated in 'Fall on Me', which I shot at a rock quarry in Indiana. There's not a single edit in it. I took a piece of film, turned it backwards, flipped it upside down, and put the words of the song on top of it in red lettering. I was following Andy Warhol's idea of the camera being a passive observer. And MTV played the living shit out of it, which was profoundly shocking.' - Michael Stipe, from 'I Want My MTV: An Uncensored Story of the Music Video Revolution'

  • the archetypical REM song and quite possibly my favorite, depending on the day/mood. Absolutely beautiful every time.

  • don't fall on me...

  • Morons arguing with morons over politics on the internet. What a group of winners we have here! Anyways, R.E.M. is fantastic.

  • Obama has gotten us to 23% REAL unemployment - the word here is REAL not the Hocus Pocus Crap Obama keeps messing with - like people who are sill out of work but dont collect any goverment money , these folks are not counted in the unemployment mix and makes the Obamas employment numbers FAKE - prove me wrong out there - look up the facts then reply- we are in a DEPRESSION -

  • rem thanks to be part of my life .

  • Hey look, people are feeding a troll, bad people no feed troll. I'd say the name "nutbagbrew" alone tells were this guy is coming from mentally. Just pat the dumb ass on the head and get on with your lives.

  • These guys are just perfect together... Amazing song. I love the vocals!

  • Fall on me....one perfect song

  • why the fuck do the leftist elites give Al Gore a pass on making money on polution and his friends in china? CHINA IS BURNING MORE COAL IN A MONTH THAN AMERICA DOES IN A YEAR! POWER PLANTS , TRAINS LOCOMOTIVES HOUSES FOR HEAT? WHAT GOOD WILL STOPPING US FROM COAL BURNING IF CHINA IS DOING MORE DAMAGE THAN THE USA? THAT IS WHY I KNOW AL GORE IS A FAKE - HE WANTS MONEY ONLY ALONG WITH HIS DEMOCRAP FRIENDS - WAKE UP OUT THERE YOURE GETTING PLAYED

  • @nutbagbrew102 stop watching 24 hour news channels!!!!!!!...if you must, watch them all...dont let any one think for you....and really, come on, democrats are the greedy ones?...im not saying your "entirely" wrong...but seriously stop just going to fox for your daily dose of what you should think...its a bigger world out there....and for the sake of argument do you want to be stuck in the industrial revolution or the leaders of next revolution...the coal and oil will run out eventually

  • @cdcme1 HEY DICKWAD - AL IS SITTING IN A 9.5 MILLION DOLLAR SEASIDE ESTATE? HE DIDNT GET THAT MONEY FROM BLOWING PEOPLE LIKE YOU -

  • @nutbagbrew102 First, writing in caps and calling people names doesn't help your argument. Second, just because someone doesn't practice what they preach doesn't make what they say wrong. Just because someone is doing the wrong thing doesn't give you a pass to do it as well.

  • @atheistphilosopher I WRITE IN CAPS TO PISS YOU OFF- AND ITS WORKING - TAKE IT OR GO HOME DICKWAD -

  • @nutbagbrew102 One, you couldn't piss me off, two, I am home...."dickwad"....sad:(

  • @Stevetheperformer Turns out a lot of people agree with Obama how the fuck do you think he became President? Get a clue.

  • @atheistphilosopher i wonder how Hitler became the Fuhrer? a lot of people agreed with him

  • @tomcornhole ad hitlarium...how original.

  • @tomcornhole Sorry Tom, not trying to be a jerk. It's just that every time I turn around someone is comparing Hitler to something and it gets old. I love to debate people but every time Hitler is thrown in it seems nothing gets solved. That goes for everyone not just people I disagree with.

  • @atheistphilosopher is Joseph Goebbels on YOUR campus?

  • for some reason i think i racist, white power?

  • One of the most beautiful songs in the R.E.M catalogue. Superb backing vocals by Mike and Bill,Peter's distinctive guitar and Michael's gorgeous voice and lyrics......superb!

  • this is one of my favorite videos i ever saw; hooked me on to the band forever after i first saw it in junior high school. i think the video is trying to say this song is so gorgeous that it doesn't matter what footage you pair it with it'll still be a great video.

  • Hello Michael,Peter,Mike, and Bill! And rem fans all over the world!

First time I heard this song,I felt very sad. I didn`t know English then (because I`m a japanese) ,but this song made me cry when I was 13. I don`t know why. But,that is very rem, don`t you think so,everybody?

By the way,I love Mike Mills`s backing chorus. Oh my god,Mikey makes this song PERFECT!!! I really love 'Texarkana'and this song.

  • @mikeymills4ever the 1991 unplugged versione is fantastic too, with an perfect performance by michael. by

  • @pandrea2003 Thank you! 1991unplugged? I only knew `Love is all around` in THIS FILM IS ON....incredibly cute Mike Mills.....

In japan, Mariah Carey unplugged was on the air,but REM was......OH I HATE MY COUNTRY(laugh).

I`m gonna check fall on me unplugged versione.... I`m coming to you,Mike Mills~!!!

  • i absolutely LOVE this song xxx fabbo guys xxx

  • This album never gets old, one of their best!

  • My favorite performance of Fall on Me is from Tour Film from 1989. Michael sings that song with such heart. I love the body motion he uses while he is singing it. And of course I love all the backing vocals and Bill Berry's "It's Gonna Fall".

  • This was my favorite song the moment I heard it a LONG time ago, and it still is. Thank you R.E.M. I miss you already.

  • Lifes Rich Pageant is their best album.

  • brilliant!!!!!

  • building towered foresight isn't anything at all!!!

  • 8 people bouugth the sky for ebay and never colud sell it again.

  • Wow,R.E.M.,wow. Their last album ever was one of their best ones, they had an amicable end to the band…….they just broke every trend known to big rock groups!!!

  • had the pleasure of watching them live twice amazing / great track

  • breathtaking!

  • One of my favorite REM songs ever. I listen to them constantly now.

  • all good things must come to an end.

REM will remain amongst the worlds greatest bands forever

  • @perrytrucker Well said; gone as a band but never, ever forgotten!!! These songs will live on forever.

  • With their breakup, lots of people have been ranking their top singles. It's a shame this isn't on more lists. To me, it's the best of REM

  • @badgernation74 agreed

  • @badgernation74 Amen! Probably my personal favorite. We must be oddballs, dude.

  • My Sky has Fallen, REM has called it quits but the music will never DIE!!!!!!!!

  • These guys from GA told the world you cant " Buy the Sky or Sell The Sky" Thoughtful well crafted music, where has it gone?

  • GREAT BAND! YOU'LL NEVER DIE! MISS YOU!!!

  • this is a classic...goodbye rem..but dont worry, i'll always be hearing from you ;)

  • This album was the pinnacle of their career. Although they continued to make some good songs and even albums, nothing topped this.

  • I was lucky to be in Manchester when R.E.M.started out. And I worked as Michael Strikes toothbrush in the early days. I remember him being like a sponge and getting ideas from all things. We went shopping in Liddel once and he walked into a door, expecting it to open, and it didnt. He banged his head and said 'Ow'. I said 'dont worry Michael everybody hurts, sometimes'. Michael ran to the ketchup aisle and used ketchup to write a song using my words. I'll neverforget that day. goodbye R.E.M.

  • Thanks to REM for some amazing songs and giving inspiration to so many others (Nirvana; Radiohead). I think back to my teenage years in the 80s and how REM made some of the most compelling music at that time. I'm especially glad I saw them in '84 at the old Walter Brown Arena at Boston University. Time marches on...

  • Hey! ... the top two comments refer to REM music as 'shit'! Funny old world ........

  • I will miss them.

  • How do I say this without sounding corny? Thanks REM, the 80's wouldn't have been the same, music wouldn't have been the same, my teen years wouldn't have been the same without youse....

  • @todtubetod Radio Free Europe...got me through many late nights.

  • R.E.M. R.I.P. The band of my teenage years gone.

  • Saw them do this at the Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh more than 20 years ago. Had never heard it before. Stunning. For an encore they did "Radar Love."

  • Listened to this on a walkman - remember those? - whilst walking home on a winter's night and looking at the stars.

  • R.E.M. got me through high school in the '80s, the most painful time of my life and I always felt like Michael Stipe was there there like a trusted friend. Goodbye guys :(

  • @blurgirlny I know what you mean. REM got me through high school and college too.

  • Thank you R.E.M.

  • R.E.M. never gets old.

  • This song was my first love *_*

    I'm so sad!

  • 31 years togetether?! Wow! I truly enjoyed some of your early 80's songs and some early 90's songs. It's sad to see you break up. However, 31 years is nothing to be sneeze at. You made it longer than most bands, including the Beatles.

  • Thanks for all the great songs,. Your songs have really touched my soul. REM songs are like a snap shot of my life. I am sad to see the band break up but I do understand. I find comfort in knowing that I can still listen to your great songs.

  • Thanks for all the music guys, it's a big part of my life. This song has been up there in my own top five since it came out.

  • Well I could keep it above but then it wouldn't be sky anymore so if I send it to you you've got to promise to keep it whole... THANK YOU GUYS, YOU'VE BEEN THE MOST AMAZING BAND IN THE WORLD...

  • A bunch of very smart, kind, and unbelievably talented songwriters and musicians. They don't make'em like that anymore, and they never will. Cheers.

  • The sadness fall on me :'(. Bye REM

  • I was a grad student and young professor when they hit big on my campus. What a pleasure to have them around. They will be missed.

  • thanks for the tunes, Mike, Michael, Peter, and Bill.

  • Will miss not having them around terribly. Still, have all their albums to enjoy. They have left a wonderful musical legacy.

  • Lots of fond memories with this song. So long, REM.

  • Goodbye!

  • ..quiet the sky & tell the sky"..& tell REM they will always make a difference...."& fall on me/we"..

  • Thank you boys for a great long wonderful run

  • i hate having to endure commercials online.

  • Mike Mills backing vocals raise this song to a new level.

  • @madferit1993 Mike is the unsung hero of R.E.M.

  • @tgear77 Mike WAS the unsung hero of R.E.M. :(

  • @madferit1993 Doesn't it suck that they are hanging up the guitars?

  • @tgear77 At least they quit while they were ahead, but I think a farewell tour with Bill Berry would be the perfect ending.

  • @madferit1993 That would be perfect. Imagine a summer tour of college campuses to remind everyone of where REM came from. I'd be there!

  • @madferit1993 That would be perfect. Imagine a summer tour of college campuses to remind everyone of where REM came from. I'd be there!

  • Just EPIC,

A fun time in life was had by all as we listed to this song.

  • literally one of the best songs of all time

    superb

  • old school R.E.M. never gets old. Im 28 yrs old now and listen to this shit all the time! I think their newest album honestly is their best since Adventures in Hi Fi

  • Am I the only one who thinks this song has kind of a sadness to it?

  • @lurch321 no i think it has some kind of saddness to it.

  • This reminds me 'Fukushima'.

What is it up in the air?

  • Bury magnets? Goddamn, REM were trolls before it was hip... :D

  • it would have been better if they had spelled " IT'S " correctly

  • this song would make sense for the end of Chicken Little... partly

  • Does it make sense? nope.

  • Happy 25th birthday, Lifes Rich Pageant!

  • @BretPopper This and Green are by far my favorite REM albums. I echo Happy Birthday to Lifes Rich Pagent.

  • Theme song for carbon traders!

  • It must suck to be Michael Stipe and be the worst person on this track.

  • @bolkovr1 ...whatever THAT'S supposed to mean...

  • My 'Lifes Rich Pagaent' reissue arrived in the mail today!!!!! YIPPEEEEEEEE!!!!

  • @REMCUREBOY

It's ace i pre ordered mine,i have evry album they've ever released .. good to know there's still some true fans about.

  • REM = AWESOME!!!!

  • These guys used to be SO great! Those days are long over. As far as I'm concerned, they haven't done anything relevant since "Automatic For The People" way back in 1992.

  • That opening verse may be the greatest :20 intro ever.

  • The days when R.E.M used to not appear in videos and do lip syncing or miming. Brave decision considering how important MTV was back in the 1980s in promoting bands and songs.

  • Stupid corporate YouTube pages!

  • the sky fell on four people.

  • The older I get the more i appreciate these guys. I loved them back in the day but now I appreciate so much more abot the quality of their music. they were the critics darlings because they were fucking great I am stunned by how good their shit still sounds and I am really impressed by their Warner Brothers stuff which i think is under rated when compared to the IRS stuff. Green, and New Adventures are totally under-rated.

  • @ratbasket 'Green' and 'New Adventures in Hi-Fi' are actually two of my favorites, while I also love 'Accelerate' and 'Collapse into Now'.

  • @ratbasket I'm a huge R.E.M. fan and even though I didn't like "New Adventures in Hi Fi" I agree with everything else you said.

  • My favorite REM song, bar none.

  • this song reminds me of Cap & Trade scam -

  • this is shit by r.e.m's standards

  • @leisurelydinner can't understand that comment!, this is quality, which tracks would you qualify as r.e.m's standards?

  • Beautiful!

  • I think this is R.E.M.'s best song during their career. Way better than "Losing My Religion", "The One I Love", and all the other stuff that made the Billboard Top 40. "Stand" was my second favorite, despite being a top ten hit. This song should have at least entered the top 40, IMO.

  • Classic song 1 of their best.

  • Thumbs up if u r watching this on May 21, 2011 WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!! and now , for some R.E.M. :p

  • I just ordered the 25th anniversary of Lifes Rich Pagaent from Amazon. Damn, that felt good. :-)

  • Pop perfection!

  • 1:32

  • Listen to !:32 to 1:48. What amazing vocals Mike Mills has. He has a better voice then Michael Stipe.

  • @shelleyinthecity you must be listening to a different song to me!! mill's voice is far too one dimensional whereas stipes voice is thoroughly haunting

  • @sscott21adi Listen to the few songs Mills does lead on like Texarkana and Superman. He has plenty of range in his voice. Stipes earlier vocals were a bunch of mumbling where you can't make out what he is saying. He got better with his vocals with this album though.

  • @shelleyinthecity right about the very early murmur stuff, even with the lyrics he's hard to understand. fav album is l.r.p. then up, which is vastly under-rated

  • @shelleyinthecity I think you are generalising when you say that Stipe's early vocals are a bunch of mumbling.

  • The pinnacle of R.E.M's art, a perfect pop song.

  • great use of the wall of sound

  • just askin - do you think there would be interest in a band that did 25% REM 25% Smiths and 50% originals which sounded like a cross between the 2? an idea...

  • @jnmud that's us :)

  • buy the sky and sell the sky and bleed the sky and tell the sky don't fall on me...

  • holy crap im 25 and just now realisin that REM kick ass

  • Goddamn EMI! Please just let me enjoy the video without forcing me to watch adverts for much lesser artists. Hope the sky falls on you you soulless evil people.

  • songs where written back in the 60's / 70's about the eco system but since the EPA was founded by Pres Nixon - now you cant do anything without the EPA looking up your behind - its gone too far , too bad too , i used to think it was a good idea to watch what we do but its wiped out complete business's and put people out of work who really didnt deserve it -

  • sky's already fallen on 3 ppl....

  • For a long time, this was my favorite REM video.

  • These songs take me back to such a different time and place in my life. Still so powerful years and years later. So happy REM is embedded in my past forever.

  • me gusta mucho esta cancion es muy cierta como siempre REM excelente letra y musica apenas para hoy ;)

  • @shanefire6 I've always heard it interpreted as a song about how we, as human beings are not properly respecting or taking care of the planet. an environmental statement.

  • Man, that's one of my favourite songs of all time. I bought the whole album years ago just on the basis of seeing this video once.

  • Listen to the background lyrics of the refrain: What is it up in the air for, if it's there for so long, it's over it's over me.... this is why R.E.M. was genius. Levels upon levels.

  • time after time, new meanings can be found about this song... " Feathers hit the ground before the weight can leave the air " these words explaining those experiments done by Galileo seem fair to him... but a man sitting on a wheelchair learning the origens of the universe is worth a story-telling in the brief history of time, if you believed they put a man on the moon... .
  • Love this song- especially Stipe's lead vocal and Mills' gorgeous background vocals.

  • Hmmm...at first I thought this song was about Chicken Little..but actually it's about acid rain.

  • I meant to say my favorite REM song

  • Favorite REM!

  • Fabulous baby!

  • watch?v=46CNp89_52Y

  • Lovely! Like a 60's song

  • Cool karaoke.

  • One of REM's gems for sure!

  • i would fall on jessica simpson.:)

  • @shanefire6

You know this song is about oppression, right?

  • @sapph920 Don't care really.

  • reklama ? o corva :O

  • Rhapsodic

  • Comment removed

  • @BeholdenFire you're an idiot.

  • So where's the video? And the SOUND? The commercial played just FINE of course...

  • you spelled foresight wrong, fellas.

  • Happy Birthday Michael Stipe (January 4)
