Steve Simmons is the translator of the Dragon Ball series who translated and localized the original Japanese scripts into English since 1999. Without him and his translated and faithfully accurate scripts, Dragon Ball series would probably suck with some crappy dialogue scripts! But the old English dub is still classic with the quotes of "It's over 9000!", "The balls are inert!" and pretty cool moments! Thank you Mr. Simmons!

well you also have to think about the time dbz was made. it was back in the 1990's when cartoon quality wasn't all that great. and my point about the falconer music was that the people grew up watching that particular dbz is what true fans are because that came before kai. not the music exactly the whole time frame when it was watched was my point. even if he did plagiarize the music people loved it. take for example ssj3 goku music. that was good.
@bboyOkkk Well the Japanese score came long before Faulconer. DBZ was made from 1989-1996 so yes the original score is gonna sound a bit retro, but that's still no reason to replace it. And please don't use that pathetic " I grew up with it" line on me because I did to. I started in 2002 watching from Ep 238-Onwards, as well as the UUE of 1-67, and bought most of the dub only VHS tapes. But lo and behold I now hate both Funi's dub and Toonami with a passion and trust me I'm not the only one.

There are more, obviously there had to have been enough edits to warrant an Edited and Uncut version releases of eps 68-291 for the old VHS singles. Almost every anime ever aired in the US has been censored in some way shape or form and buying the DVDs was the only way to get it uncut.

@bboyOkkk Also, the Kai score isn't what killed the series. It was the fact that it was sloppy, edited down, hack-job version of a show that was already a sloppy hack-job to begin with. It was just the same poorly-drawn footage with a cheap MS paintjob to make it look HD and it still left in gobs of filler and alterations from the manga and in some cases even removed entire pages of manga. Plus, they started in an awkward place in the series at the Saiyan arc instead of at the real beginning.

Am I the only person who noticed pretty much all groups of American fans have faced a major change through Dragon Ball Z and Kai that might seem unsettling. First, the fans of the Japanese were suprised by the changed dialogue and music in the Ocean dub. Then, Ocean dub fans were surprised by the changed music and voice actors in the Funimation dub. Then Funimation fans were surprised when Kai had new music, new actors and dialogue. Then Kai fans were surprised when they changed the music. Funny

@Taintedwisdomaz And it also has a lower rating, Y7 or something like that, so a lot of the animation is cut before it gets on the air because it's not good for kids, they're making it more for the DVD release which is uncut and better, and most fans typically buy the DVD's rather than watching it on TV because no one really watches TV that much anymore.
A lot of people don't share Sean's enthusiasm about Kai, though. I started watching it somewhat towards the beginning and didn't even notice the lack of blood and whatnot until someone pointed it out. Now that I've noticed it kind of annoys me, but it truly is the definitive Dragonball Z. Despite better dialogue it still feels somewhat childish, though (could be me).
I just wish they would redo the original series altogether. I loved it, but how flippin' sweet would a revamped version be...
@Mr777gio777 I was told to buy "Dragonball Remastered" because it had everything in there (dialogue, blood, etc). Too bad I don't have the money :( The thing is I don't know if the remastered version improved upon the old dialogue and bad translations or if it's essentially the same thing with the word "remastered" added as a gimmick.
@haltrman93 Remastered is different, but it's essentially just the old version re-dubbed with similar dialogue and better animations. Kai, when it comes out on DVD and isn't the childish cut version the put on Nicktoons will probably be much better.

Only dragonball Kai has the dialogue changes. And dragonball kai has LOTS OF BLOOD unless you were watching it on nicktoons or 4kids. Buy the DVDs, the dialogue is much better with plenty of blood on the uncut dvd version.

That's why I said to buy the dvd to get the uncensored series. On tv they have the TV-Y7-FV showing. And they decided to show the series on TV the way it was meant to be they would put it on a time where kids wouldn't be watching and/or have it rated TV-14. As much as I liked Bruces score for Dragonball I prefer the original. How you feel if you made a show and they removed all the music you felt was appropriate for the scenes with someone elses music? And it still is Dragon Ball Z, the Z was added to the anime is Japan, it was just to differ the series, even though the manga was simply "Dragon Ball" from beginning to end.

Dragon Ball Kai is a high-definition revamp with no filler, then brought over to America then adding "Z." It really is Dragon Ball Z anyway, without the filler and bad/rough translations.

Sorry funimation but the music bruce made added so much more personality and depth to the show and without it a lot of moments in the show fall flat, vegetas themes sounded PERFECT for his personality, ever heard of the old saying, "if it ain't broke DON'T fix it" the music alone is reason enough for me not watching kai
@lweezy2040 Some of Bruce's music was good, but the main problem was that it never stopped. There was constantly some kind of beeping, blooping, techno crap that bombarded your ears. Bruce's battle themes were pretty good, but he can't score a slow, emotional scene very well, except for Fat Buu's childlike theme.
@Selsiuss2 what about the music playing during vegetas last dieing words on namek, or the music from when he hugged trunks before sacrificing himself, or even the music that played when goku delivered the bad news about buu gohan and vegeta. I get what your saying but Bruce's music was a breath of fresh air from the generic Japanese music
@hotwhire Sure, Bruce has some good hits, and I still get nostalgic thinking about the music he added to the show, certain themes he made were just too much. Like the super fast techno garbage explosion that played when Piccolo fought Android 17. Only some of Bruce's music is good. there's plenty that's crap. Like Sean said, it's good to slow the music down sometimes instead of being constantly bombarded with beeps doinks and whistles.
i really liked the music from the original DBZ. ITS just weird remembering a similar episode and the music starts and it completely changes the way i remember it.

Without him and his translated and faithfully accurate scripts, Dragon Ball series would probably suck with some crappy dialogue scripts! well you also have to think about the time dbz was made. it was back in the 1990's when cartoon quality wasn't all that great. and my point about the falconer music was that the people grew up watching that particular dbz is what true fans are because that came before kai. not the music exactly the whole time frame when it was watched was my point. even if he did plagiarize the music people loved it. take for example ssj3 goku music. that was good.

@bboyOkkk Well the Japanese score came long before Faulconer. DBZ was made from 1989-1996 so yes the original score is gonna sound a bit retro, but that's still no reason to replace it. And please don't use that pathetic " I grew up with it" line on me because I did to. I started in 2002 watching from Ep 238-Onwards, as well as the UUE of 1-67, and bought most of the dub only VHS tapes. But lo and behold I now hate both Funi's dub and Toonami with a passion and trust me I'm not the only one.

There are more, obviously there had to have been enough edits to warrant an Edited and Uncut version releases of eps 68-291 for the old VHS singles. And what do you mean having to buy the DVD/Blu-Ray is idiotic? Almost every anime ever aired in the US has been censored in some way shape or form and buying the DVDs was the only way to get it uncut.

SSJ2 Gohan's transformation music sounds like music that should be playing when a woman gives birth. But to call Faulconer fans real fans of the Dragon Ball franchise is ridiculous. @bboyOkkk Also, the Kai score isn't what killed the series. It was the fact that it was sloppy, edited down, hack-job version of a show that was already a sloppy hack-job to begin with. It was just the same poorly-drawn footage with a cheap MS paintjob to make it look HD and it still left in gobs of filler and alterations from the manga and in some cases even removed entire pages of manga. Plus, they started in an awkward place in the series at the Saiyan arc instead of at the real beginning.

Honestly, I think many of you are underestimating how much Funimation HATES Bruce. The man has a tendency to get into a shit fit when he doesn't get his way
He sued Funi when he didn't get GT, which was a 3 year legal battle, which led to nowhere, and his company filed for bankruptcy just this year.
Also, he stole credit from the guys who actually wrote the songs (Mike Lloyd Smith, Scott Morgan, & Julius Doobus)

Am I the only person who noticed pretty much all groups of American fans have faced a major change through Dragon Ball Z and Kai that might seem unsettling. First, the fans of the Japanese were suprised by the changed dialogue and music in the Ocean dub. Then, Ocean dub fans were surprised by the changed music and voice actors in the Funimation dub. A lot of people don't share Sean's enthusiasm about Kai, though. I started watching it somewhat towards the beginning and didn't even notice the lack of blood and whatnot until someone pointed it out. Now that I've noticed it kind of annoys me, but it truly is the definitive Dragonball Z. Despite better dialogue it still feels somewhat childish, though (could be me).
I just wish they would redo the original series altogether. I loved it, but how flippin' sweet would a revamped version be...

Wasn't DragonBall:Z copied from America and America claimed and called THEIR version "DragonBall:Z KAI?
Or did the makers of both movies make an agreement to spread the "DragonBallness" around?

@SupremeCaptainBlaze The original series was Dragon Ball, then went on to Dragon Ball Z, which was brought over to America. Dragon Ball Kai is a high-definition revamp with no filler, then brought over to America then adding "Z." It really is Dragon Ball Z anyway, without the filler and bad/rough translations.

@DemomRedone yeah i know its weird how u can hear the charater's voice in the the voice actor's normal voice i feel the same way about Sean Schemmel u can kinda hear Goku even when he's not even trying!:)

That's as clear as day to figure out. But I'm refering to the conclusion to Z ten years later. Goku trained for ten years while gohan layed back to be scholar and raise a family with videl. By using that logic. Goku deffinately surpassed gohan as a Mssj3

Sorry funimation but the music bruce made added so much more personality and depth to the show and without it a lot of moments in the show fall flat, vegetas themes sounded PERFECT for his personality, ever heard of the old saying, "if it ain't broke DON'T fix it" the music alone is reason enough for me not watching kai

@lweezy2040 Some of Bruce's music was good, but the main problem was that it never stopped. There was constantly some kind of beeping, blooping, techno crap that bombarded your ears. Bruce's battle themes were pretty good, but he can't score a slow, emotional scene very well, except for Fat Buu's childlike theme.

@Selsiuss2 what about the music playing during vegetas last dieing words on namek, or the music from when he hugged trunks before sacrificing himself, or even the music that played when goku delivered the bad news about buu gohan and vegeta. I get what your saying but Bruce's music was a breath of fresh air from the generic Japanese music

@hotwhire Sure, Bruce has some good hits, and I still get nostalgic thinking about the music he added to the show, certain themes he made were just too much. Like the super fast techno garbage explosion that played when Piccolo fought Android 17. Only some of Bruce's music is good. there's plenty that's crap. Like Sean said, it's good to slow the music down sometimes instead of being constantly bombarded with beeps doinks and whistles.

i really liked the music from the original DBZ. ITS just weird remembering a similar episode and the music starts and it completely changes the way i remember it.

I really just wish they would of brought back Dragon Ball Z rather than have Dragon Ball Z Kai... There probably would have been way better viewers and ratings if they had done so...
