  • You Americans pronounce 90% of words incorrectly, fucking hilarious your debating anything.

  • @TheGregsterx *you're

  • @TheGregsterx Dude, I AM American.... and I totally freaking agree with you. Freaking everyone mispronounces things however they freaking want to, and then yell about it to others..... so stupid.....

  • It's Dr. Seuss not Dr. Zeuz!

  • 0:05,Shit just got serious

  • when he put down his glasses i laughed for 5 mins straight. THIS MAN IS GENIOUUUUUS.

  • C&C for the win :)

  • I laughed so hard when he said "Not the Grenader"

  • 19 People don't know who Day[9] is.

  • dam, i still call it zee-lot

  • In my entry of the "imitate an unit" I said "Zeelot" and the day after he said this and I felt it was because he saw my video and hated me. I cried hard that night.

  • When day9 throw away his glasses, the shit gets real.

  • When the glasses come off, shit gets real!

  • Peal = Peel

    Seal = Seel

    Meal = Meel

    Zeal = Zeel

    Zealot = Salad

  • When the glasses go off shit gets real o.O

  • @MrShhkas +1;)

  • im german and i know its zealot and not zee-lot ^^

  • CNC tiberian Dawn FTW!

  • Just for information's sake, the reason it's pronounced zealot and not zee-lot is because the word ''zeal'' is borrowed from French where it's spelled « zèle » (with the accent making the « eh » sound like in « meh » « heh »). This sound is the same as in the English pronunciation of zealot. The French word was borrowed from the latin « zelus », which borrowed from the Greek « jealous » (see the resemblance?).

  • @Dugrok I think you got it wrong. Zealots (Zelotai) was a Greek name for radical Jewish political - religious group that fought with the Roman "occupant" and people who collaborated (try Wikipaedia). I believe Saint Paul of Tarsus was a Zealot when he hunted down followers of Jesus. Isn't there an english word "zeal" which is a fiery passion, for something etc? I live for Aiur! etc.

  • @JanB56 You're absolutely right about the Zelotai and the Romans. That's also where the French word comes from. English->French->Latin->Greek.

  • @JanB56 .. Zealots say "My life for hire".... not "I live for Aiur"

  • @xSpacey haha, mt bad.

  • @Dugrok Know why your comment is a complete waste of time? Zealots are supposed to be space aliens that haven't adopted the etymological history of our language.

Therefore, it's entirely arbitrary whether it's "zee-lot" or zealot.

  • @CaptainCrunchOwns you sure showed him :)

  • @CaptainCrunchOwns Yet this game (and universe for that matter) uses English mainly which makes his comment relevant. And even if the Protoss only used their own language, their word for Zealot would still be translated to just that, which pretty much voids this whole thing. Don't be a dick towards someone trying to be helpful. He wasn't smug or anything.

  • @Sunrider84 Just pointing out why his comment makes no sense. If "Zealot" is the unique term adopted by the Protoss, then they are the ones who dictate how it is pronounced, and English etymology would be completely irrelevant. (Note that even you capitalized "Zealot.") But if we are supposing that the term is just a translation from the Protoss language, we don't need a paragraph of etymology. I've never heard ANYONE, outside of Starcraft, ever read "zealot" as "zee-lot."

  • @CaptainCrunchOwns It does make sense though. If it's necessary or not is a different story however. Also, the reason I capitalized it has nothing to do with how it's pronounced. It's merely because it's the name of a unit in a video game. Nothing else.

  • @CaptainCrunchOwns I don't agree with you. I think that a word like "Zealot" which is borrowed from greek, from history, adds up to the total "feel" of that race. It's asignificant addition that give that race a bit of depth (anyway, for anyone who knows what or who is a Zaelot). Same thing with Preator. It makes a difference that it is "Zaelot" not for instance "Jibby-Jibby-KooKoo".

  • @JanB56 Good point and you made me chuckle with "Jibby-Jibby-KooKoo." I'm kinda sad Blizzard didn't name them that...

  • @CaptainCrunchOwns And sorry for my spelling mistakes:p

  • Ahaha, I was a Grenadier in the army!

  • "as the ZEE-LOT." can not stop laughing.

  • im still going to call it that, just to piss ppl off

  • yea original cc ftw i still have that game

  • Say that to ryan higa

  • So... can I still call Hellions Helly-Yawns?

  • But if it was zee-lot, that would've been micro.

  • If your American, "it's Ze-lot" If you're not, It's "Zee-lot" does it matter? I mean come on.

  • @TotalityClause Uhm.. No it's not. It's the same no matter where you're at.

  • @AquaTheFox Uhm.. No it's not. I grew up in England, france, Whales, and Scotland. Moved to America and BAM! it''s now "Ze-lot"

  • @TotalityClause All that means is that they pronounce it wrong. And exactly how often has the word 'zealot' come up in non-sc conversations (or are you just that young?)

If you grow up in the right places in America, you'll hear 'axe' instead of 'ask' your entire life. A bunch of people mispronouncing it doesn't magically make it correct. Pick up *any* dictionary, in whichever country you'd like. I'm in Edinburgh at the moment, and the dictionary here agrees with me.

  • Grenadier is not from the Original Command And Conquer, Grenadiers originate from the french word "Grenade" during the 17th century.

  • @AllNamesWereOccupied The word zealot has been around for centuries too, why pick grenadier to nazi out of the two? We're talking about SC and C&C here, not history.

  • its supply NOT FOOD SEAN

  • @Darkaim666 I think you mean "It's 'supply', not 'food', Sean."

  • @Darkaim666 hes stuck in warcraft 3... haha

  • oh shit i just got schooled at C&C. grenader for life!

  • what? you mean known by idiots on furms as "zel-lots" right? the correct pronunciation is "zee-lot"

  • @Timster480 you should look up the word in a dictionary, and it'll show you how it's pronounced: zealot [zel-uht]

  • @Timster480 its pronounced zel-lot lol, not zee-lot...

  • @Timster480 No

  • someone show this to spsdebo please

  • so, umm, zealot is more like "salad"?

  • My friend alex needs to watch this.

  • Zealot can also be written as Z-lot for short.... which is in fact really spelled as Zee-lot... think about it ;)

  • LOL GRENADER XDXD

  • day 9, you just made the hero list

  • How does he know how people pronounce it on forums?

  • I would like to know what he thinks about White-Ra lol

  • Day 9, I apologise as a Korean.... It's is the fault of those idiotic translator, do not blame the innocent players, Korean translators fail.

  • i thumbs down all day9 videos, in memory of day9

    thx 4 nuttin

  • what a trolling xD

  • Zey-lot

  • cool terren shirt champ!..........

  • most people put on glasses to be serious, day9 takes his off to unleash 100% of his awesome on the mispronouncing fools

  • in my home country of Germany, it's a Berserker :|

  • Berserkers are different to Zealots

  • I hate hearing people mispronounce things on Xbox Live. It's like, really? Isn't English your first language?

  • zealot comes from greek ζηλωτής which is pronounced as Zilotis .. so its zee-lot :O

  • @mogoliapowah You're probably not entirely serious? You don't pronounce a word by it's origin. For then there's no meaning to the new word. ZE-LET it is. >:O

  • @TeshnosFire you're probably right .. just threw that out there without researching it too much. :)

  • Hahaha wrong!! Zealot (noun) pronounced Zel-uh-t.

Zealot: a member of a radical, warlike, ardently patriotic group of Jews in Judea, particularly prominent from a.d. 69 to 81, advocating the violent overthrow of Roman rule.

    NOT GREEK!!!

  • well, the word zeal is pronounced ZEEL so... WHAT!?!?!

  • very true. but words are weird. even the english ones. like read has two different meanings (each pronounced differently)

  • Zealot - A fanatic.

I think this video is ironic. Americans normally misspell the word Lose, by putting in two o's. That is LOOSE, the opposite of TIGHT! And you also pronounce stuff wrong like Aluminium and Nuclear...

But yeah, i agree, its Zealot...pronounced Zeh-Lut not Zee-Lot. Ooh i remember the grenadiers! Love that game!!! Shame its not supported online anymore, DAMN YOU EA!!!

  • @Diablo666Daemon666 There's an XP patch for it knocking about, I have it installed.

Heck there may even be Vista/Win 7 ones, or maybe the XP one works for them. And you can DL it for free I think.

  • thats all fine...but i mean you cant play it online anymore

alas, the classics are being replaced by SHIT

  • @Diablo666Daemon666 Yeah i misread, sorry man

  • @Diablo666Daemon666 how do you know this exactly? Have you tried the units in the custom games at all? The carrier and mothership were never used, so why do people care about those units now?

  • What? I always used the Carrier! Even back in the days of Brood War!!!

Ah...Brood War...the 24 Dragoon Blitz followed up with 12 Carriers...

One of my BEST Tactics is Carrier, Mothership, Dark Templar!!!

  • @Diablo666Daemon666 stalkers+observers and possibly zealot with a sentry could counter it

  • Stalker/Zealot/Sentry vs Mothership/Carrier/Dark Templar?

    Hmm...that gives me an idea...

  • MELEE is one too

  • oh...you mean when people call it Mee-Lee? Its Meh-Lay isnt it?

  • Ah yes... Meh-Lay and not Mee-Lee...

  • zeelot is just starcraft slang. People also call it "me lee" instead of "may lay" *(melee) even after they know the correct way to pronounce it...lol starcraft has its own jargon

  • 14 idiots pronounce it as Zeelot and Grenader and they hatin' and they dislikin' this video.

  • sadly he is trolling White-Ra when he is making fun of people who call it Zeelot

  • haha I actually know someone who says zee-lot. Calls joysticks "joey-stick" for some reason too. We never correct him, we just let it be.

  • Cambridge dictionary pronounces it zealot, not zeelot.

And Zombie, if you wanna protest, go nag with the University of Cambridge not us..

  • Thank you Day[9], that was like watching me flip out on my WoW guild for calling gnomeregan 'no-mo-reggan'.

  • It's BAY-TUH not BEE-TUH.

  • *cough* Artosis *cough*

  • 00:07 SHIT JUST GOT REAL

  • just cause people pronounce it zee-lot doesnt mean you have to go all PMS'ing on them

  • which daily is this?

  • @ZombieG33K I think that depending on where you live, it could be zel-ot or just zee-lot. Nickelskov, same thing to. Most of everyone I know says it zealot. But still, others will always be saying it differently.

  • @ZombieG33K sorry but guardianoffor is actually correct. the english language is the worlds newest langauge and it is a combination of many other languages, and yes it constantly evolves. Whatever is popular will become the "correct" way to pronounce a word.

  • actually that is only true because we, as a society, allow the raping of our language by our own people.

this statement can be proved with one simple word...INNIT!

that word has been around for about...15 years now (longer than most people believe)

  • This reminds me of my friend who pronounces "turret" as "turr-ent" IT PISSES ME OFF BEYOND ALL IMAGINING.

  • I lost respect for Day9 a long time ago, he continues to prove to me why I no longer watch him...

Zealot is a word with multiple ways to pronounce it, like "either", "Pecan", Etc etc etc... Thanks for continuing to be an ass when everybody doesn't do something as simple as say a word the same way as you Day9!

  • @ZombieG33K I grant that he gets a bit...overzealous in this matter, but why take it all so personal? In a way it is amusing to see how enthousiastic Day9 is about what he does.

I am curious, what would make you lose all respect for him? That would probably take a lot more than a few cases of him getting worked up over a few little things, but rather something you would consider glaring flaws.

  • @Blizzz1023 Wow... you're really going to argue that a word can only be pronounced one way, especially when there is already an enormous group of people in the world who pronounce it "Zee-lot"? You've apparently never taken even a high school level English class, so I'll say it again; "Zealot" is a word that can be pronounced two ways: like "lead", "wound", "present", etc...

If you want to continue to show your stupid, reply to your own comment, I won't waste more time educating you.

  • @ZombieG33K Go look it up in the dictionary hotshot. Prepare to be embarrassed. I said pronounced "correctly". But, given your level of intellect, perhaps you don't know the meaning of that word, so look that up as well. You lose, I win.

  • @ZombieG33K Lead, Wound and Present have multiple meanings, the way you say them relies on the way they mean.

    Zealot, pronouced Zee-lot is wrong.

  • @Nickelskov You people are so freaking stupid... more examples for the illiterate.

Data - Is it “Day-tuh” or “Dah-tuh”? Or is it something else?

Either - “E-thur” or “I-ther”? But, due to the wide recognition, either pronunciation is acceptable.

    Tomato/Potato – [Cliché Ahead] – I say “toe-may-toe”, you say “toe-mah-toe”, I say “poe-tay-toe”, you say “poe-tah-toe”

And one I'm sure you say "wrong"...

Uranus - the more giggle-inducing “Your-anus” is more popular than the BETTER “Urine-us”

  • @ZombieG33K But yet again, Zealot does not have a double pronounciation. It is pronounced Zealot, not Zee-lot.

Yes, a lot of other words do have multiple ways to pronounce it, but Zealot is not one of them. Saying Zee-lot is incorrect.

  • @Nickelskov ANY word can be said in more than one way. It's called a dialect, maybe you've heard of it... Different parts of the same state say words differently, so obviously in the entire world, different people says "Zealot" differently. You can't say one person's way of saying it is "right" and the others are all "wrong".

  • @ZombieG33K Yes any word can be said in multiple ways, but it's not correct pronounciation to say it in completely different ways. I can say one person way of saying it is right is because it is the correct way of saying Zealot.

It is pronounced zel-uht, no other way.

Go be mad somewhere else bro, we don't need your kind on youtube.

  • @Nickelskov My kind? The kind of person with an above-average intelligence who knows and accepts that people are different and speak differently? Yes, I think you're right... YouTube is obviously full of morons like you who think they are perfect and everybody who disagrees with them is obviously wrong and stupid. I've found people more intelligent than you on Chat Roulette before.

  • @ZombieG33K "I have above average Intelligence and you don't! I must be right! You are completely wrong!"

Yes, people are different and speak differently, i do not think i'm perfect in anyway, different languages have different words for Zealot, фанатик, fanatik, gorliwiec. They are all spoken different than Zealot, but the way to pronounce Zealot properly in the ENGLISH language is Zel-uht. So calm down you silly Dweper.

  • @Nickelskov Thanks for pretending to quote me while you add in words I never said, that just proves my point further of how stupid you are... gotta make things up to prove your point (and that really did nothing for your point anyways).

I'm tired of repeating myself, enjoy thinking that you're right or whatever...

  • @ZombieG33K No i was putting your entire post into a single sentence more or less. You are trying to say that since you have above average Intelligence and saying that I have below average intelligence that you are correct.

So you're saying, someone with an IQ of 150, can easily understand what a complex Ion is, with no knowledge of chemistry behind them. It just doesn't work like that

    Intelligence!=Knowledge.

  • @Nickelskov You put words in my mouth that I never said...

And all I meant was that I have the intelligence to learn when you apparently do not. I have the knowledge of the English language because I take college courses in it, and I have enough common sense to just know.

  • @ZombieG33K College Course in English Language!= Knowledge on pronunciation.

You have the intelligence to act like a pseudo intellectual, yes.

Yet again, i summarised your post into a single sentence.

  • @Nickelskov There is a large difference between summarizing and paraphrasing, and yes... college courses that make you dredge through grammar rules, syntax, etc... equal knowledge on pronunciation. How the fuck are you THAT stupid?

  • Then why is it New Zealand?

  • @warrioroftoast With New Zealand you pronounce the Zeal in Zealand, New Zeal-and, the and rolls off the L of the Zeal.

  • @Nickelskov haha, I was just making a small point. If you're a true kiwi that's basically the case. Most americans separate the two. At least the do where i'm from.

  • @warrioroftoast I guess it just changes from accent to accent

  • ZEE LOT SOUNDS BETTER!!!11

  • ya. i called them ZEE-lots from sc1 til about 2 months ago...

  • i have the same headphones :O THIS MUST BE THE SIGN. GRANT ME YOUR POWERS DAY9. GRANT ME YOUR POWAHS

  • He's so zeelous about it...

  • *clap*

    *clap*

    *CLAP*

  • I used to call it a "Zee-lot" because I was a 90's kid and I started playing starcraft at age 7, and 7 year olds aren't the best at pronouncing weird words. Many other people started calling it a "zee-lot" for the same reason. Get off your horse.

  • @Wilson1592 He's not criticizing seven-year-olds; he's critizing adults, like I presume you to be, who find it defensible to pronounce a word the same way that they did when they were seven.

  • @InstantClubHit I understand this, but habits carry over into adulthood. If a kid calls a zealot a zee-lot for 6 years before they figure out the correct pronunciation it may be hard to break the habit. Plus a person might not want to break the habit.

  • @Wilson1592 I'd have to agree: Maybe it is due to the fact that the word 'zeal' was known to us earlier than 'zealot.' (Let's face it, who ever learned or encountered the world 'zealot' before 'zeal?') Thus, when we encountered the word 'zealot' (by ourselves with no one there to correct us), we automatically defaulted to 'zeelot' thinking that the way we say prefixes were preserved under all circumstances.

  • dont call it salad !

  • It's actually pronounced Grenade-eee-air, Day9.

  • @IAmUh dictionary . reference . com/browse/grenadier for pronunciation :P

  • so often in life not so often in starcraft hahahaha

  • My friend just called this a zee-lot A part of me died that day

  • if the GH sound in enouGH is s pronounced 'F' and the O in wOmen makes the short 'I' sound and the TI in naTIon is pronounced 'SH' then the word 'GHOTI' is pronounced just like 'FISH'.

welcome to the English language assholes.

ps. by the way, how many here can properly pronounce Jekyll?

  • @MrNewpants

That is not entirely accurate. Ghoti cannot be pronounced as /ˈfɪʃ/ if you stick to the rules of pronunciation.

  • @MementoNecare actually it's completely accurate. ghoti is a word constructed to show the irregularities in english spelling, used widely by english teachers/literature professors. I bet you could even wikipedia it if you like. now doesn't that make you feel silly?

  • @MrNewpants Don't think I've ever read anything more retarded.

  • @Jcob91 that's kinda the point isn't it now?

  • OK, if I ever met Day[9] in real life I know what I'd ask him. :]

  • Also, the word zeal...

  • Also, "grenedier, reasearched," in halo wars. Lol i felt sooooo bad, I actually thought it was Zeeeeee lot, before I heard somebody say it.

  • Indeed, it is not a z-lot... it is clearly an x-lot.

  • THEN how do you pronounce pea

  • Zeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelot.

  • You know pple think its Zee-lot, because Sea its prenounced like See right

And zealot pple think is Zeelot

  • zee-nophobe.

  • I played the old cc and called it the grenade-er and i played sc1 and called it a zee-lot 8D

  • White-Ra: Zeelot BOOSHHHH :O ♥

  • When Day9 pulls off his glasses shit is serious...

  • Original Command and Cancer, WOOHOOOOW!

Please fill out your registration card and send it in. <3 EVA

  • It is ZergLot !!!

  • zeebra
