the transistor that your using is called mosfet transistor or metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor...if your using an npn transistor the circuit will work if you touch the base of an npn transistor so that the current will flow then untouch it the current will not flow,,but in this case he is using a mosfet transistor so when you touch the gate(base) the current will flow and it remains on even if when your not touching the gate
