To me Mary is the new Aretha. First of all, I know alot of people who sounds vocally to Aretha. Hell I do. I can make myself sound like any singer if I listen to them often. So saying Fantasia sounds like a Aretha is a blessing and a course at the same time. Mary can remake a person's song and sound similar also and have the an outsatanding stage presence that's her own and original. For as many similarities as there are there are also differences between the two. I think Fantasia has the essence of Aretha Franklin. Not that she sounds like her but the spirit and emotion in which she delivers the song is all Aretha. However, I hear and see a lot of Patti Labelle also in Fantasia. In my opinion she bought something new and refreshing to an old song and put a lot of herself in it, made it her own. They both sound good...Old School meets New School. It works.
