  • I want to join this sooooo bad! Too bad im living in Iceland. :(

  • this looks like the army, military etc. training

  • Is that a fifth of vodka on a table in 1:53?

  • Sorry but if Jeremy Clarkson can do 24hrs in a race car, so can anyone. PT or no PT

  • @RedFox10375

Anyone CAN do it, no reason why not. The guys driving LeMons junkers prove that. But driving fast is such a precision operation that your lap times and consistency will start to fall off before you start to feel tired. Your precision motor skills when you're absolutely deadbeat are similar to being drunk.

It's not so much being able to do it as it is being able to do it as well as you possibly can. Being fit can only help in a race car.

  • Staying awake and alert has little to do really with fitness, it's energy levels.

They need a general fitness exam that you need to pass before they take part. They really should've done that with the medical at the start.

These guys don't need an obstacle course, it's pointless. I was an army recruit and I'm telling you an obstacle course does not help with 24hr guard duty. Staying alert and awake is a different ball game entirely

  • The obstacle course was probably just evaluation.

It's not about staying awake, and you can't compare guard duty with racing cars. Have you ever raced cars? Do you know how much effort is involved? I've done an endurance race in a professional level kart - it's hard work. When you're taking a 2-G corner every few seconds and your head plus helmet weighs three times what it usually does (gravity + acceleration) AND trying to race with millimeter precision for hours on end it gets to you...

  • ... Besides, if you're selecting someone to drive your 400,000 dollar racing car, you would be wise to take physical condition into consideration.

  • One more thing, I've tried everything to get fit for racing - low impact, high impact, swimming, cycling, running, weights, cardio, etc etc etc.

None of it was comparable to racing a car. The absolute best way to get fit for racing cars is to drive as often as possible in something physically demanding like a kart or formula car, but karting is cheapest.

  • hahah you're saying running is not comparable to sitting in a seat racing in a car.

    sure mate, sure

  • @RedFox10375 If you've never raced a car for long periods of time then you have absolutely no idea. So why are you even talking?

  • I think he has not even been doing go karting for more than 20 mins in one go. Someone who is not physically fit, RACE a go kart for 20 mins, you will be totally knacked. In the last couple mins when you turn left your head will swing to the right, when you go right the head will swing to the left. This is what happens unless you do a lot of fitness training etc to build up good muscles and physical condition. Driving a car is only alert and awake? what a joke

  • but he couldent keep up his faster pace for very long the fitter you are the faster you cn go for longer

  • I feel sorry for these poor geek gamers. All they were promised was to drive a GT car and instead they got physical training? Id rather stick to my PS controller than having this twat telling me what to do. These boys didnt sign up to be marines, they are a bunch of bedroom racers. And whats with the driving instructor? I bet he cannot do a lap in Gran Turismo. Lord, todays world has fallen to the hands of knowit all "instructors" and trainers.Give these boys some fun and let go the "attitude"

  • @aprosarmostoss829: They're trying to find someone who can be a professional endurance racer, it's not supposed to be "fun".

  • This video is really good! I love youtube and how it always inspires me to keep watching more! haha it's true (= entertaining stuff when i'm AT WORK!

  • is a game right......? wow seem like a war

  • seems like it's really tough to become a race car driver..

  • It's not that tough. Real racing school isn't like that at all. This is just a dumb publicity stunt. That's not racing school, that's a military training camp.

  • if you ever know how hard izzit to survive 24 hours of driving in a fast car without losing positions.....you will understand what they do all that for

  • First of all, no top level race car driver runs. It destroys nerve endings and can cause problems in your legs. They swim and bike. Secondly, a race car driver does not need to be iron man. A race car driver is not a football player. They're a lot closer to a fighter pilot. Fitness in this case is less about physical strength and more about mental finesse and having the body support system in peak condition. Carbohydrates instead of calories. Long instead of short muscles. Relaxed, not tense.

  • ok....makes sense.....thx for the info btw =) my bad

  • Hit the nail on the head... this is a mere publicity stunt... it is however entertaining.. hehe

  • @ayaxro it is but it's also cool since if enough people watch it, they'll keep making more and thus giving the average Gt gamers to get a chance in the big league ":D and it's also very entertaining, so it's a win-win situation for us :D

  • MadCat. Any fit guy runs, he runs not to get his nerve endings damaged. He runs because he wants to build up stamina.

If running is such a serious hazard to legs, why do most excercise regimes include running? Think about it. I was a conscript from a transport camp. My fellow drivers need to do morning runs 3 times a week. Because they have to go for standbys and drive really long journeys. THEY NEED TO BUILD UP STAMINA.

Yes running do damage. But thats in the very long run really..

  • actually formula 1 drivers do A LOT of running on top of cycling and strength training. and by the way, running DOES NOT destroy nerve endings... I'm a runner myself and I've never had a problem

  • @MadCat360 i disagree. fighter pilots need to in great shape because it takes a great toll on their bodies. the same goes for professional drivers, the amount of Gs exerted on the body at high speed at crazy, especially since they usually race for hours. their bodies needs to be in great shape to handle that pressure and also to pump oxygen to their brains lol

  • @MadCat360 Carbohydrates are calories idiot, and yes being physically fit can improve your mental and emotional state. Every pillar of health is needed, if you aren't physically fit, then you aren't mentally fit, when you aren't mentally fit then improvement is out of the question. Plus these guys are being trained to be endurance racers, a fat ass would have constricted lungs which would most definitely cause him barf of exhaustion in the first 1-1.5 hours of racing.

  • @MadCat360 you understand they do that that see who wants it the most right?

  • @MadCat360 but in top gear they said that the stig can open a beer bottle, with his testys lol

  • And another thing. Yes you dont need to go through a military camp to become a racing driver cause you only need to drive, you arent going for long route marches. But what if you need to RACE for long hours? The program is design to prepare these guys. THESE GUYS ARENT REAL RACING DRIVERS. Do you see them carrying weights? Push ups? Pull ups? All i see is running and cycling in the gym. Its mental finesse and stamina.

This may be a publicity stunt. But the things they do help those amateurs.
