Actually he was saying that even if the democrats were elected in 2006, it would be impossible to end the war. Because there are still some democrats who support the war and a myriad of republicans who support the war. So even if more senators are against the war, not enough to be VETO-proof or even filibuster-proof.

Just to clarify, he didn't say "Dems lied to get elected." His words mean that they used the growing opposition to the Iraq war and milked it for all it was worth. They did not lie, in that they DO want to stop the war. BUT, anyone who thinks that the war can instantaneously end just because there's a dem. majority in the house is mistaken. It is THOSE voters who may have been mislead by democrats who put the Iraq war at the front of their reelection campaign.
