just a point: this designed like a spider, also to climb easily, to have a comfortable sit; to have some rubber under the foot (wwaao what a slide on road ! .. yep a good extra work, then to make the 2nd ! yup, the only sensible way. although i suppose it can also slow down the movement of one side for it to turn while moving forward without needing to come to a complete stop, probably breaks for each indvidual drive mechanism

Maybe, but it definitely would help with forward traction. Maybe something in between. Right now it is loosing too much energy sliding in place. Its a beautiful mechanism though.
