The episodes are currently rebroadcasted on German Television and for me this is the highlight of the TV week.

Why are today's serials so cold, so sterile, so exchangeable? Why are the protagonists like cloned robots?

Columbo was a real human being, friendly, modest, smart, with strenghts and weaknesses. The serial was special, with many details and vivid, compelling characters. It's so sad that he is gone.

Not a TV fan, don't even own one but bought a "Columbo" season on a used DVD. You know how it is - I then "had" to buy all seasons released.

Peter Falk had one glass eye, a result of a childhood tumor, and during his successful stage career was told by his NYC agent he'd never get a job in Hollywood. Indeed, at his first audition, a director at Columbia dismissed him, saying, "For what I'd pay you, I can get an actor with two eyes."

He showed them. Rest in peace, Mr. Falk.

Without a doubt the best detective show ever on TV! Smartly written, and letting the viewers see the crime at the beginning was brilliant! We get to see Columbo unravel the way the murder was committed and his thought process and how he challenges the suspect, actually helping him solve their own crime.

I agree and they did it all with a very low budget. They didn't blow things up, wreck cars in chases, set things on fire or destroy anything.

I think he might have went through a couple of the coats and few pair of shoes during the show.

He always drove the same old car.

Columbo was the first detective show to show the killer at the beginning of the episode before that all detective shows always showed the killer at the end. Columbo almost did not happen because the network executives said who would watch a show if you show who the killer is at the beginning. Thats how good Peter Falk was in this role!
