I also would be interested in knowing if you're still working on these... because I also would totally buy one, even as a kit (would love some different colored LEDs though)
I have this mental image of some time travel movie showing a guy in the year 1880 but showing that he is a time traveler by having him pull out one of these. It's the sort of thing a prop master would make for a movie. Awesome!
Personally, I could picture this as the concept of pocket watches in the future, like in the year 2045. If so, I would like to sport this remarkable timepiece.
Actually, I started this project before the Corpus Clock was unveiled, but they beat me to the punch. If you check out the website (linked in the notes) you'll see that the idea is, in fact, well travelled.
I think the most impressive feat is how aesthetically pleasing you made the QFP and the surrounding LEDs. Even the plain PCB face looks like art, great job.
Seriously man, you've done an incredible job on this. So glad to finally see it reach fruition. You'll have to let me hold it next time I'm in town. I can pretend I'm as cool as you.
Sir, that is the coolest thing ever. I will definitely be attempting to replicate it. Also, I like the music choice. That's BT on This Binary Universe, correct?
*Cough* I see the future in watches, jut be patient people, in 10 years from now this kind of watch will be crawling all around the world, or an idea extremely close to this. Just watch. This is a brilliant piece of work.
led with no periods is a heavy metal. Lead was used by many metalugists because of its malleability, low melting point and its availablity. I am not aware of a led genius metal but think you meant genuine led metal.
No offense, but there is no way in hell that I would of done that to a real antique pocket watch. I can't see all of those old internal components you gutted out easily replaceable.
You should of just fixed it and did the LED mod on a cheap modern one.
Rest assured, this movement was impractical to repair, which is why my grandfather never took the time to fix it. However, the movement was carefully extracted without doing any violence to the workings, just in case. No pocket watches were harmed in the making of this project.
Facinating work you've made there, I'm deeply impressed! Noting that you have labeled this as a v1 0, I'm assuming you will be either adding to the design or varying it? I'd love to know what the next steps you have planned!

you should make a dial where you can see the lights going through it or something, instead of looking at that boring green chip thing.

The first lead watches were responsible for a lot of led poisoning and retardation at the century's end.
