my understanding was that of batteries job, was just to turn that start a motor one set motor tics over all of the average voltage and whatever else is needed. Comes from that alternator or stater not the battery battery job is simply to start the bike by turning the starter motor.
The state is responsible for the current needs of the motor
@memberson Well technically you are right the spark does not directly originate from the battery. But to get a spark, power needs to go from the battery, to the starter solenoid, to the starter, to the flywheel, to the stator, to the ignitor or CDI, to the coil, to the spark plug. Power needs to transfer from chemical to potential to kinetic to magnetic to electric forms. If you dont have a good battery, not enough power will transfer all that way to get to the spark.
@PowdderFinger Oh, well keep an eye on it, you might have backfired into the carbs or something like that, try and get a feel for the symptoms and I will help you out if I can
@PowdderFinger I have the exact same bike, well mine is an 81 but Im pretty sure they are the same mechanically. Yeah it can be a little finicky. Have you tried starting it since? What kind of bucking was it, like gears grinding, or the engine dying? Was it bucking down (dying) or bucking up (surging)?
Great video Max. I have no idea how old the battery is on my bike but it stays pretty much around 12.8V. One thing you could have added to the video was hook up your volt meter to the battery after you got it started to show if the battery was getting a proper charge from the generator. Atleat that's what I would have done :D
i was looking at your multimeter i thought the black is supposed to be in the com area all the time,im asking because i burnt one up already
