5:08. That's right! Stop brainwashing our people! Tell em' the truth! When I watched this movie at first, I was like what? That no sound right! Its just like the movie "Phoneboth". No more half truths!
They also need to remove that Hawaii-5-0 era parking lot in front of the palace. There were no cars in the 19th century and that parking lot is not genuine.
The point is, if you are going to depict a series of historical events then you must represent them truthfully. What credibility would the film have at all If it diverts from the facts. What I see is one group putting a spin on historical events to promote their agenda. I beleive the word is propaganda.
kamehameha was the chosen one to unite all the islands under one.. though the history is insane and what he did to obtain that, his destiny was already mapped out, we didn't have human sacrifices to ku, it wasn't his enemies it was his own people and that was something no of us can really know what was going through his mind only what history books could tell us.
. . . you mean back to the days when woman were not allowed to eat at the same table as men? when Kamehameha I brutally invaded O'ahu and forced his enemies over a cliff? when we offered human sacrifices to Kukailimoku? You say that white men "invaded" Hawai'i, but what about when the people from Hawai'i invaded the islands of O'ahu, Mau'i, Moloka'i, and Lana'i? You're not asking for justice, you're asking for racism.
There is a huge difference. You are comparing ancient history with "modern" history. The annexation to the U.S. was illegal. Illegal based on Hawaiian Law, U.S. Law, and most importantly International Law established at that time. Remember that the Hawaiian government is older than the U.S. The royalty had international ties with the Japanese Emperor, British royalty, German Kaiser, and many others. Relationships that paled to those of the U.S.
Depends on what you mean by government, if you mean an entity that is codified the oldest governments that would come to mind would be Rome, Babylon and Greece (thousands of years apart), all of which predate hawaiian "government".
So Haoles were building aqueducts, had established schools, trade markets and judicial processes etc. etc. at a time when hawaiians were still Tahitians.
@jazzysoranio The point is that the film makers are changing the FACTS. King Kamehameha united the island's. He was a Hawaiian King. A Hawaiian, it's still our story not some fake. there is no racism involved here we're just asking for them to film the truth.
