Got to love it when every thing is preset for a video, No ac purge or heater lines disconnected in this vid. Also front seats removed and prolly no engine in vehicle to work around. the heater lines alone are a MAJOR pain in the ass, Wht not show the correct way to remove them here. Also not shown is the hidden nut under the dash above the pedal cluster, If your gonna take the time to make an instructional vid take the time to do it right!
I'm cursing a heater core in a 2000 Jeep GC right now, but I didn't evac the a/c. A little more of a pain in the butt, but there's no extra cost. I split the heater box and left the a/c evaporator and the top portion the of heater box in the vehicle while I removed the bottom, it has to be hosed out anyway because there's coolant in all the little pockets in the air box. I also found a broken blend door.
Hey is the heater core in the HVAC assembly as well? I have a jeep where there was a leak and it was bypassed at the water pump so I don't suppose you could tell me the general location of the water pump so I can fix the heater core and un-bypass it?
This video is to show our work this is not an instructional video. I use You Tube to host my videos for my website. I am sorry you think they are pointless but our customers like them.
i have the same jeep and mine has broken ac and the only thing that works is the defrost also a cracked heater core how much does a job like this cost to get done?
99' f150-I have warm air entering the cab via the recirculating vent, under the passenger dash at the firewall. i can see the door covering the grill, the warm air comes in to the cab mixing with the cold air on the passenger side, any ideas? Are the blend doors needed if all you ever use is max ac? thank you, best video of hvac / dash removal ever.
yes i think Ashley is hot too lol! would she fly to washington state and help me with my heater core in my 99 grand? lol i didnt think so ! thanks for the vid , now i know i will have to put aside a weekend to fix it!!!!
sucks mice got somewhere up in the dash behind my glove box in my cherokee, and when it rains water comes in on that side. im guessing they pluged something up with their nest. im sure i'll have to take the whole thing apart to clean it out.
Wow - you both rock!! This video was very informative. Can't believe the work involved in doing this. All I can say is Chrysler ... they don't exactly build quality stuff.
Wondered what you charge for this - looks like it's a lot of hard, meticulous work.
Ok I just bought (today) and immaculant 99 JGC and thought i got a steal! Unfortunatly the only area heat blows out is the defrost. If it heats the cabin up eventually I could live with it for a while, but the temp goes from being warm to cold which I thought might just be the thermostat. Any advice is appreciated!
BTW - why do mechanics take so much time to post youtube videos? Does it drive business to you or are you just sewing good seed in the world?
@Beemrr These videos are just for us to show our work we are not trying to diagnose other people's problems through here I can guess all day what is wrong but without looking at the vehicle it would be just that a guess and I could totally be wrong and cost you a bunch of money. I do not believe this helps anyone.
@CooperLakeAutomotive Understand totally. Of course if someone wants to say "I have no idea the cause of your problem but checking the thermostat, then your vacuum hoses is a good place to start looking on a situation like that...but I'm sure once you did that it would be an avalanche of posts from broke guys like me that can't afford to pay his kids lunch money much less a certified mechanic! Great Video, very well done - Merry Merry!
@Beemrr Well to be honest I am usually working on cars not sitting at the computer. So I do agree it takes me awhile to get back around to answering these.
I have a 2000 Grand Cherokee in my garage now I'm doing a heater core on. I have the dash completely loose but something in the center is keeping it from coming completely out. Seems like around behind the radio mounts. Any suggestions? Thanks
I dont have the dual climate control on my laredo but the passenger side does not blow as well as the driver. Would this be because of the same issue?
hey guys, why remove the dash. the air box can be modified to replace the blend doors in 25 minutes through the glove box. no affect to system performance, no risk of air locks or unwanted scratches during removal or refitting of the dash. I have been a Chrysler master tech for 10 years now and wish I had done it the simple way, instead of following the bulletin instructions. either way, working with Ashley must be amazing !
@markymark9172 the problem on this particular jeep was the recirculation door, not the blend door. Once we got it apart we realized that the blend door was broken as well.
@markymark9172 Sure wish what u said applied to an 88 Comanche , because I have my dash in pieces & still cant get to the Heater core box. Its sucha nightmare :p
Wow! Pictures are worth a lot. About to do the same on my wife's 2001 jeep grand ch. Now my wife can see what her hubby is getting into. I am a retired mechanic. This type of job is not for the wanna B's. Thanks for the video. I do feel sorry for people having to pay so much for this type of job while Chrysler racks it up all the way to the bank! with their cheap parts.
@willeb522 Yes this is a good example of why car repairs are so expensive. Good luck on your wife's Jeep. We have other shops calling and asking how to do this job all the time. I commend you for doing this job yourself.
This is insane, oh good job Chrysler! there they go using plastic parts for everything that's bound to break. They must be doing that on purpose. bastards!
QUESTION: Is there a cabin filter that you can replace in that mess?
I've already had both of the PLASTIC cable blocks break on each window regulator of my 01 Laredo. Fortunately I was able to replace them with the machined aluminum block available online.
@fetymann There is no cabin air filter on this year cherokee you can add an aftermarket one if you want. This is ridiculous I agree supposedly the new ones are more robust we have yet to have any replacements break and we have done over 100 of these jobs.
@fedorov5549 We did not change the Heater core and Evaporator core because the customer did not want the extra expense, the Heater cores do not fail that much here in GA. The Evap. core do fail but they are expensive. Sorry we are not very close to Wisconsin we are in GA
Same thing is wrong with my 01 with dual doors and I just bought it. Why didn't you change the heater core and/or evaporator? Are you anywhere near Wisconsin?
Great video, guys, of a repair that is all too common on the WJ model Jeeps! How many hours did the job take the two of you to complete? Love my 2002 Grand Cherokee Overland, except for the poorly designed parts on the HVAC system. Chrysler should have done better and stood behind their work on this HVAC system.
Thanks, and I agree this repair is far too common. As far as how long it takes with filming and setting up everything it takes much longer than if we just did it without worrying about camera angles and lighting and such. Ashley and I can do these in about half a day.
ashley is a cutie... only cutest girl mechanic ive ever seen

Omg.. You have to take off the entire dash to access the blower? It took me 2 seconds to get to my blower on my civic.

@JoelPerezident You can access the blower motor without removing the dash.
