I have always thought the Discipline/Beat/Three of a Perfect Pair era KC to be a form of progressive dance music. I've heard Fripp in his own way come close to this point as well. It makes your body and mind do different things at the same time.
Years ago a guy told me the title was a funny pun as in Kneeling, Jacking Me. I still don't know what to say about that but if anybody gets the chance to ask Belew, tell me what the outcome is hahaha.
@greatsilentwatcher Yeah, Neal and Jack and Me is so awesome, it could be as bad as one of Fela Kuti's sax solos (like the whole thing is totally batched) and it would still be one of Crimson's best. They have the right to mess up!
Absolutely perfect version of King Crimson--this 'Discipline'/'Beat'/'Three of a Perfect pair' period was the apex as it successfully combined experimental and world musics with progressive rock, free improv, industrial textures, electro-acoustic and damned good danceable pop sounds too. I recall being in college, majoring in music, and having powerful lessons with each of these 3 albums' releases. Bill Bruford taught Rock-n-Roll how to be Free Jazz! .......jp
This is a fantastic performance. I'd even go as far as to say it sounds better than the LP version.. I met both Belew and Levin at Three Of A Perfect Pair camp this past summer, where they were both counselors. It was incredible. They were extremely approachable, genuinely nice people, and they had wonderful stories to tell. It was a really inspiring experience for someone like me, who wants to be behind the scenes in the music industry (a.k.a., a sound engineer).
@Venix946 right up with them would be Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee of Rush, they have been best friends since school days, and both love the music they make!!!
One of the greatest bands ever in this period. I can't tell how much this band influences me, but I never been able to reach this outstanding class. And this band does not only touches me in a musical way, also in the way of thinking. Thanks a lot to you King Crimson!
The Mad Professor and his pals play some great rock and roll! God those fucking Roland midi guitars weigh about 30 pounds, no wonder The Prof is sitting down;-)
...how Fripps solo climbs up, with two attempts!, explodes at 4:27, and then gracefully releases (see Brufords joy there, how much fun playing SUCH music...)
man that was good to see...been a while since i heard that song....one of my top bands!!!
