I all most have my dog doing this. It is so hard and takes a lot of patients. She is doing it if I have my hand under her leg just like the video. We cant get past the point of holding her paw up and walking with out my hand to help her. I will leave a video response ones we have it down. thank you
How to teach your dog to be brave and not affraid of laud noises ? My dog is affraid of everything loud , thunder , fireworks , some times even when somthing falls on a ground and make loud noise like books etc .. Somtimes when she is under table and u put somthin on the table that makes noise she moves away ..
this video is great i've been training this to my dog but one problem she wont limp unless i hold her paw how can i get her to limp without me holding her paw
Thank you so much for your videos. I looked everywhere for a great source of positive reinforcement dog training advice, and must say that your videos are BY FAR the best I have seen. You have saved me hundreds of dollars in training, and have definately increased the safety of my soon to be born child. I truly appreciate and respect what you are doing and I wish you all the best.
@MrJoe725 thumbs up!!! but i think that's because she already mastered the right limp (and prefers the right limp) before the video so he was teaching her the left limp since she already knew the right limp. but since she hasn't mastered the left limp yet he just had her do the right limp at the end.... DOES THAT MAKE sEnSe??
@gyeomusic I think the best rythm for teaching a dog is short training sessions a couple of times per day but no harm happens if the dog has day-offs. Remember, resting is an important part of learning. When the trick is trained properly and the dog has really learned it it won't get forgotten even in years though may need refreshing before public performances. Though I guess these muscle memory tricks are a bit trickier because the dog must be fit to do them.
i love solear, shes so a clever, adorable dog! and u are a very good dog trainer, my respect! well respect, solea have big respect of you, i noticed how shes watching u :) good team
im trying to learn my huskie pup that i haven't started yet but my huskie likes food better then toys if i keep it food will that still learn him the trick
your videos are outstanding..just got a german shephered 2 weeks ago and she is doing soo well with her training... your videos make it so straightforward and easy.. keep up the good work
Hey, love your shows. My beautiful white lab learned to cover her eyes in a matter of hours. I am working on limp and im not sure how to get her to keep her paw in the air (the shake part) without me holding it. If i ignore the paw it goes straight down every time. Thank you so much!
Love your dog, it's so cute. Great tutorial, too. I've looked at a couple other videos and I like this one a bit better. Gonna go out and try this one again!
@ihatethenameluca It bridges the gap between the dog performing the right command and getting a reward. If the dog lifts its paw, for example, then it takes you a few seconds to reward it, the dog may become confused upon what it is treated for. However, if the dog is associating clicks with positivity and rewards, when it receives a click it knows exactly what it is doing right. You can click a dog faster and from much further away than you can treat it with food. Hope this helps!
Your great, your video's are realy helpfull, but I got a question, wouldn't my dog confuse limp with just paw? when do I teach him the limp command instead of the paw that is needed for the training?
@TheCarelMaes Thank you! Great question - I would introduce the new cue, 'Limp' once you are able to get the dog to do the supported limp. At this point they should be able to understand the difference between the two words.
It's so much fun to teach this to your dog. It took Della about a month to get the idea of limping, but with patience, she's now offering limps without any kind of support from me.
@brittanyjadexo my dog is called jackson tooo, i hope he's the same he again astonishingly only took 10 minutes to learn to close a door and now does so whenever he sees that one is open
Yes, this is a hard trick! I've been trying for a while, and it's touch and go. One minute she seems to get the concept, the next, not so much. She tends to bounce as I take my hand away, so I keep trying different methods. anyway, great tutorial! 5*****
Awesome! I've been trying to teach Kai this, but I don't know how much stress this will put on her growing joints, so I've stopped. What's your opinion on it? I also have made it a goal to make her limp with her back paws >D She's got that one down pretty good
@KrazyKai0905 I think that if you work on it for just a few minutes a day, it should be okay. If you are not comfortable with the 2nd or 3rd step, you could just work on the paw lift until you feel like she's ready.
do you suggest teaching a dog one trick at a time so they don't get confused?

It took my pup 6 weeks to get this but I finally found the weakness - his hind legs don't have the strength to balance.
I had him doing 2 legged stands to strengthen his legs then lo behold he was able to limp using his new strength!
