  • omg this is one the best racks ever

  • Excelente trabajo

  • OMG i want this CRAZY THING!!! :D

  • digital wood track?

  • impressive

  • Legendary!

  • my god f1 cars sound sexy

  • pedazo de circuito!!! impresionanteeee!!

  • Superb layout. I must admit it makes me want to change from trains to slot cars. No dice. But I am planning on expanding by doing the same sort of thing you have done here (on a bit smaller scale) but using the 1/64 rc cars they sell on ebay. I figured it would be quite challenging without the slot as I am sure it is already WITH IT! Really nice modeling on the scenery as well. This must be in a book somewhere? If not, it should be. NICE!

  • Wow ! Congratulations from F1 FAN from Poland :-)

  • I hope you have insurance on that thing.

  • thats realy cool nice track

  • Absolutely incredible track!!! Can I come over and hang out?

  • Hi Jarmo60

Been working on my track for about 3 years (some 8000 hours) I taped an ordinary camera to a car. It is a custom made wood track, surface is Multi Density Fiber Board. There is a better video on Discovery Channel here:

    h t t p:// w w w.d i s c o v e r y c h a n n e l . c a / a r t i c l e . a s p x ? a i d = 3 0 6 6 9

Retype the link with no spaces.

    -James

  • Fantastic work man. How long it takes build all that, i supposet at many years? How you make that car camera system?, This track is not ordinary Sscalextric, Carrera or somekind those tracks, is it make a wood plate?

  • are all the cars invisible?

  • This is incredible! Really well done, it must be astonishing to see in person

  • Really, really nice work!

  • That's one f!n beatiful layout fabulous work

Very convincing :)= I'm an H.O. Man myself

With H.O. u can mingle in the trains with live

Crossings too. I got more than adozen on

    Mine.

  • I was hoping to see smooth video of the actual cars running and hear the actual sound.

Too bad. All of that work and not much to show.

  • Yo queiro una igual...!!!

  • haaaa YO quiero una iguaal...!!!

  • Amazing!!! Fantastic job!!! The details are perfect, you knew what you were doing, for sure!!! Congratulations *****

  • Some people have said turn the sound effects off but I reckon that adds to it, it's awesome!!!

  • Wow James just saw this on the web today, brilliant you lucky guy & yes do agree behind every successful man is a good lady :) Been a Scalextric fan since I was a boy now 56!! used to have 8 when younger. Keep up the good work.

  • Yes Pit lanes and lane changing are hand made Magnetic soleniod bell crank switches. They are activated by buttons on the shelf in front of driver stations and a duplicate switch on the controllers.

Fastest lap time is around 14.5 seconds

Funny how many people think I don't have a lady... I've got one of the best, beautiful, intelligent and supports my passions. I'm a lucky guy!

    -James

  • Impressive set up. Watching the video I see you have pit lanes and multiple racing lines on some of the corners? I was wondering how you get the cars to switch lanes?

  • Not bad, not bad :D Wau !

  • ok kids it's bedtime.. now please put away all your scalextrix back in the box as quickly as you can!

  • Tremendous! The feeling of achievement in building something tangible is amazing - I'm a model railway man myself - but doing something like this sure beats the hell out of sitting in front of a TV with a console 'racing' round a virtual track!

Congratulations, and to all those knocking it; what have YOU built...?

  • not into these cars , but well done must be pleased with what you have made ..looks cool

  • What's your fastest lap time?

  • The audio on this is dreadful!

  • Saw this on Yahoo News. Well done. =)

  • Forget Hermann Tilke, this needs to be made real yesterday.

  • That must have taken a couple of hours lol Would be cool to see someone actually using it :) I would have loved one of them when I was younger!!

  • good way to kill a video - turn the fuckin sound OFF!

  • cool!

  • Congratulations, your video is the top story on yahoo.com. I watched it all and your imagination and hard work has definately paid off. It takes somebody with ambition to create such an amazing toy wonder. I would love to join you and your friends for race nights haha. Rock on Indi race track!

  • Right, now put it all back in the box, your dinner's ready!! :o)

  • u should be proud as fuck thats amazing

  • sick man - good work

  • If you are reading this buddy, hats off to you. Work of art! Looks amazing.

  • must've been hard work. i take it you memorised the entire track? including minor details?

  • You need to get a girlfriend.

  • Beautiful. This is poetry, a song, an internet site, a novel, a screenplay. It's a wonderful celebration of life in the free west. Wicked man. I can't even get through the whole video, it's too moving. Excellent work!

  • I just love it ,when you see the compasion that humans have for detail, i find it oddly beautifull, te he he , does that make me geek' ish....

  • wow

  • if they were to build a real life circuit then he would be an architect of it and he would be rich

  • Great video, thanks for sharing!

  • absoloutly awesome your a very talented man quite inspiring really i would love to have the time to do something like that instead im refurbishing flats to a high standard i would much prefer getting a dremel multi tool out and fiddling about making skyscrapers and stuff!!! seriously though mate this track should be made for real it fantastic and for those people who dont like the sound of a v10 needs help the only thing you could of done with the sound was mix it in with the car going around!!

  • Great effort, fantastic result but awful video. You need footage of you and friends racing each other, showing off the track in action. I'd consider contacting ITV1-Formula 1 and showing them your creation, they'd probably used it in one of their broadcasts. Well done!

  • just caught sight of you in the film man ,,,,,,, ive got a grin on my face man , but not a wide as yours ,,, man thats one serious joy toy ,,,, thanks for sharing it with us , respect to you man .. amazing

  • this is awesome! well done!

  • fantastic great diarama, a lot of hard work but I bet it's awesome to play v. jealous in a good way

  • Jedi.\m/

  • This is a bit special.

  • Excellent job !!!!

  • Very impressive!!

    WELL DONE &)

  • Must be a bitch taking it apart every night and setting it up again next day. Well done mate ! .

  • @evsynator Well, you're intelligent.

  • absolutely awesome!

  • Well done getting featured on the front of Yahoo UK, this is an amazing track you've built here!

  • That is a bit awesome!

  • great efforf man must of took ages

  • Wow, this is truly remarkable, I'd love a blast on this, awesome work my friend ;)

  • What do you do if the car comes off the track? Unless you've got super long arms to pick them up and put the cars back on.

  • @coasterollie

There are 3 marshall holes in the track that you can retrieve the cars from.

Also I use grabber arms that extend your reach about 3 feet if needed.

Check this video to see people in the marshall holes:

Look for the AC2car WLF1 Ring video here on YouTube and you can see guys siiting in the marshall areas.

I guess we can't post links in comments??

  • @jmghf10091 Oh yeah. I had the video on while on MSN so must have missed it.

It's an awesome track. Well done. I've made a large track at my dads flat that goes through most the rooms but it's just track on carpet. Nothing compared to this awesomeness :D

  • Really impressive... But one critical detail missing... Pit Babes!!!

  • Take the friggin' sound effects OFF.

  • @cgbp85

Hmm seems some don't like V-10 F1 engines at full song. If you're one of those, instead of complaining, try the mute button. It works wonders for sounds that annoy you.

    -James

  • @jmghf10091 I love the sound of racing car engines, but I think what's annoying about them here is the fact that they are too loud for the clip, and that they are poorly recorded or reproduced here - there is shedloads of distortion in the sound recording of them. Watch F1 on TV and you'll hear much better sound quality of the cars racing round the track. My suggestion is to use another source for the sound fx, or if they're clean at source, find out why they've ended up shrill and awful here..

  • @InARoundaboutWay um they sound just like F1 cars on TV, you can tell they're a bit old but that's about it. The cars aren't all flat out in the sounds, sounds like qualifying or practice footage was used a lot. Some are from the pitlane and the drivers rev the crap out of their engines in there, they're not loaded so they sound kind of harsh or something, there's no smooth acceleration, and there's about a million decibels pounding the microphone. Some in-car noises would have been nice

  • @fookfocketyfookfook No, the soundtrack to your clip doesn't sound like the cars on TV! As I wrote before, the audio is poorly reproduced here. It is NOT distorted and shrill on TV. And it doesn't matter how many decibels are pounding the mics recording them, as professional mics don't clip the sound easily. The TV people also put the mics further away, and have the sound level of them lower in the mix so that commentators can be heard for instance. Please lower the level of the cars here too!

  • @InARoundaboutWay Not my clip

  • @cgbp85 least its not some crappy rock music track

  • DO WANT!

  • Nice video. However, it has probably the MOST annoying soundtrack of ANY youtube video. Ever.

  • Sad to think that someone could actually give enough of a fuck about this brainless "sport"... time, energy and most of all MONEY well wasted.

  • @lin2log if creating something with your own hands is a waste of time, energy and money, then sign me up.

  • WOW, most most most impressive.

    Give tours??

If ya do, sign me UP!

  • I'd do that for sure. This was my first video and it isn't great quality. I never expected it to take off as such! I am a bit sad that you don't like the sound of Formula 1 V10 engines screaming away at Indianapolis though. Each to his own I guess. There will be new videos in the future!

    -James

  • @jmghf10091 Great sound, great track, but where are the cars?

  • @jmghf10091

This is the most amazing video I've ever watched on the Tube. You should be proud of yourself. Excellent layout, production, video, sound, etc...

    You're my new hero!!

  • @jmghf10091 Thats what your dad said.

  • Great video, and amazing track, but the audio in this is just annoying. I'd rather hear you talking about the track and building it.

  • This is super epic! Absolutely fantastic piece of monumental efforts on your part I'm sure! Kudos!!

  • You are hired. When can I fly you down to Austin?!?

  • Great Job !!

Great attention to details and the track it´s very good. Best that some the current tracks of real formula one.

  • OMG thats awesome and its in his house

  • Very impressive, great job - love the attention to detail.

  • Seriously this is soo amazing! I am an MA architecture student and this is a ultimate model! Bravo!

  • I wish I had this much free time... Seeing as my track is only plywood and masonite flavored, I'd love to have this track... In fact, I'm coming to your house and stealing it.

  • Pleeeeeeeeease add video of a car just rippin' it through the track (1st person view). I'd love to see that. It would feel soo intense!

  • @shizank

Search for "AC2Car WLF1Ring" on YouTube

  • That is amazing, All I have is a figure 8 track :( and only one car works lol

  • what waste of money lol u need to get a gf lol

  • No sure I'd call it a waste of money. It's a hobby he truly enjoys. BTW, he had a fine looking wife!

  • @4countach4 Think about the amount you have spent on consoles, pc's and games over the years. All up his setup cost ~$3500 and a lot of hours but he can show people and say "I made all of this". What can you do? Scratch your balls and brag about how you havent had a red ring of death in a few months.

  • @blaflaggin Few years actually ;)

  • @4countach4 stop trolling. some people have hobbies and are passionate about it. how would you feel if whatever you "liked" or was passionate about and someone made fun of you for it?

  • recording sounds like early 90s cars. i hear traction control though but i hear manual throttle blipping on change down too.

  • Absolutely Amazing! F1 please fire Tilke and his bore-o-drome designs and hire this guy!

  • This is incredible! Very inspirational

  • What more can a F1 fans ask for? This is ..........well, you got all the good words in English and Chinese from me. Stunning~

  • Awesome track, please post some more videos with cars racing around the track!

  • Lots of pics and descriptions at my blog too:

    wlf1ring.blogspot.com

    Enjoy!

  • @jmghf10091 AWESOME!!!!!

  • Thanks for the nice comments everyone.

Costs to get track up and running was about $1500 with no scenery. Scenery which is all scratch designed and built was maybe another $2000 in materials.

Its the time that is the hardest. Easily over 6000 hours of effort to this point.

    I started in December 2007.

  • @jmghf10091

    Its all worth it

You have done a wonderful job

    just AMAZING wow

  • Man epic epic epic epic how much is it to build that and how long did it to take to build the track

  • Congratulations from Brazil!

You can be VERY proud of this lovely track. The details, the layout, everything is simply AMAZING

Some details inspired me to change a couple of things in my (much simpler) track.

Thank You for sharing this! (and your family, if your life is similar to mine...)

  • great track

  • you have inspired me now...Great job on your track. Starting this weekend on my own creation. Thank you for posting, and sharing such great information

  • Congratulation from spain. Your video is amazing. GRAND PRIX F1 1968 SCALEXTRIC. and Slot Cars Bill's Speedway

  • The greatest Slot Car track I have ever seen.

  • Magnifique ! Félicitations !

  • Awesome!!!

    How does the pitlane work?

  • You can select on the table in front of you to switch the track to enter the pit. There also is another button to switch lanes. You can also switch lanes by a lever on the back of the controller.

  • wow!!!!!!

  • it's huge and gorgeous.

    great attention to detail

would you ever consider a "scorpious" or "oxigen" type of digital upgrade?

    5 stars

  • I'm not sure yet on a digital system. I haven't done much research as the track is coming up on its 2 year anniversary and I've been plenty busy with the fabrication and scenic work. Who knows what the future will hold for the Ring.

  • Ace track and Scenery work...top job
