  • Thank Christ it is recognised that these things are NOT jellyfish.

  • i got stung by one lol

  • i'm portuguese and never saw one -___-

  • It actually consist of 4 species of Polyps. It is not a single life form.

  • I've gotten stung my one the invaded Myrtle beach the week we were there, and my friends were there the same week as us and she got stung too, she had to go to the ER cuz it was attached to her

  • so gross

  • Bleqq . I hate them , my brother got stung by one at Myrtle Beach when I was little and I haven't been back in the ocean since . It was the worst experience possible , it wouldn't let go of his leg , so he kicked it off and it flew across the ocean xD but , they say they only come out in the evening , like around 5:00 pm .. So watch out (:

  • Eww

  • \m/...Manowar... \m/

  • no brain? no heart? wtf is it then? blue inflatable condom x) Cool though (:

  • these scare me so much

  • the hanar in mass effect would be pleased to know that "this one" will be pleased to know that they have a distant cousin 0.0

  • @gijose95 Excited: yes, another mass effect fan. (I know, I know, this is Elcor speech, but I couldn't resist.)

  • @MarkShadowWolf

  • DAMN CREATURES SO SCARY!

  • EW!!!!!

  • that is one of the scariest creatures ever. its cool though ^ ^

  • the sea is beautiful but soo scary!!

  • aren't we all made up of separate creatures xP

  • @fecesforjesus420

not quite. We have many parasites within us, but we are one singular entity.

If you cut off your arm, would it still be alive? is it completely independent?

  • These are in the gulf of mexico every year I go to the coast and there are usually 3 or 4 that I see that are beached.

  • omg im scared of those. thats it! im not going to the ocean anymore and i saw this huge jellyfish!! bigger than a stomach and it was beached and yeah it was bigger than a head and bigger than my stomach and then when i was taking a picture i saw the jellyfish coming twoards me then i ran to the beach almost dropping the camera

  • i am NOT going to swim anymore :(

  • freaky

  • IS the narrator stupid? I don't care what reason you have, it's a jellyfish

  • stuff like this make me not wanna go to the beach ill go but id stick to making a sand castle lol

  • @RoarMcprime yeah i went to a beach recently (NC) and my friends mom got stung by a man of war... :s not going back for a while.... >_>

  • @RoarMcprime lol same here

  • How can they live without a brain, nor a heart?

  • @DanishAnimalFreak1 life can exist without them, a brain is just used for sensory perception and advanced thought proces, single celled animalls live without brains or hearts

  • @crayon151 Ohh.. I thought I knew much more about animals ô-o

  • @DanishAnimalFreak1 Yeah, the world is very interesting

  • @DanishAnimalFreak1 Lots of animals don't have a true brain or heart.

    clams, worms, sponges....

  • @watcherthatboxer How could I forget all that information? T_T My memo's so bad...

  • these always wash up on south padre island tx

and they sting like a bitch and a half! i got peed on by some beach dude because of one of these fukers...:/

  • I love this guy's accent!

  • My mom told me about these when i was little

  • Those tentalcle of the last man-o-war was quite short. Fully grown tentacles on a man-o-war can grow up to 50-60 feet long!!!

  • that is the scariest shit i have ever seen

  • UM are you sure this is Costa Rica and not curacou! I went there on vacation and one of my dive trips had a few poled there and it lookes the same! and they have bin seen there so can u double check:P

  • how do they reproduce?

  • @astroid911

well from what i learned in zoology class, they send out their sperm and then i cant remember what their called, but these coral type things absorb it, and they like create these disk type things off of the top, and those become the jellyfish

sorry if i couldnt get ya a clearer description

  • @Molatov12

Those "coral type things" are called polyps. Great description, by the way.

  • @Molatov12

You are describing the medusa life cycle.

adults release gamettes "sperm and eggs" which fertilize in the water column which then become cilliated larvae called planulae.

the plaunale settle and grow into polyps which then under go strobulation in the spring, triggering by rising sea temperature and seasonal iodine levels. this causes the Oral disk of the polyp to "pulse" and then break off where then it turns into a infant medusa called a ephyrae "plural"which grow into adults.

  • LOL i was thinking of that to.

  • @astroid911

vegetative reproduction and broad cast spawning.

  • @astroid911 They can do it asexually or sexually. Asexual is when they bud. It then falls off of them and it turns into a polyp. Then it grows into another Manowar. Sexually is when they release eggs and sperms between 2 manowars of the opposite sex. The sperm fertilizes the egg, it grows into a polyp, then into another manowar.

  • @astroid911 a-sexuality dumbass

  • @astroid911 someone is horney

  • @astroid911 with pleasure

  • It isnt a plant mate .... If it was , the narrator would have said so . He said its four different organisms , and none of them are plants either

  • four different "groups" of zooids.

there are many more individuals then just four.

but there are four classes of zooids in the colony.

  • I know that already .

I was just stating to the idiot who thinks this is a plant that the NARRATOR said the Potugese Man O' War is made up of 4 different organisms

  • sorry about that.

    i was kind of nitpicking.

But yea, apparently its a common mistake.

many cnidarians were actually studied by botanists in the early days before it became apparent they were nothing of the sort.

  • i tot this is a specie of jellyfish.. cool fact

  • People think its a jellyfish becuz it looks like one i actully thought it was 2 and im in to this Marine Like things ALOT! im even a scuba diver

  • Lol the video game "Age of Mythology: The Titans" claims them to be jellyfish =]

  • my dad got stung by it when he was diving he almost died

  • :( wow hope hes ok but that kinda made me scared to see one when im diving but where did it happen

  • kinda looks like a floating bubble with stinging tentacles

  • wtf portugese man o' war is not a fucking plant..it's a sea creature..dumb ass.

  • um i think he knows more then you! you actully should read and study more like im sure he did before u go spazing at him or her im not sure if he was talking or its a recordin

  • i have on of the worst potugeese man o war stings ever if i was allergic i would be dead right now it stung my whole neck wraped around it stung my whole stumach and parts of my back my whole body is red now.

  • i got hit by 'all' of one 17yrs ago, and when it wrapped around my neck, shoulders and torso i thought i got hit by a 20ft shark... my body surged so bad i ripped a few tentacles out which stuck to my body and kept stinging me for the 10 mins it took to swim to shore... i went into shock from all the posion and had to be taken to the hospital and will always have scars (including the stomach tube on my back), neck, shoulders, arm.. i think we can agree that these were not fun days at the beach..

  • When I was younger I once saw a huge jellyfish.

I was sooooo scared lol !

  • How do those things even live? I always wanted to poke the float with a stick.

  • they are plants that eat fish. they live cause fish decide to use them as cover then they get too close and yum yum fish dinner

  • Sorry, the Man-O-War is not a plant, not by any stretch of the imagination.
