I'm a HUGE Elvis fan, but this is undeniably beautiful. I love the way PJ doesn't merely copy or parody the King, but rather interprets the song in the context of the show. Great version.
I really love Elvis & his music but in my mind P.J. just pips him to the post. When will he be truly recognised for the genius he is?Not when it's too late I hope..that would be tragic! In different circumstances P.J. would have stayed at the top but he was too much of a rebel! RON
singing this as I saw him at Victoria Theatre, Halifax a few months ago and WOW he puts his heart and soul into this song.. we need this as a video i hope somebody can load that for all his fans to see... keep on rockin P J
I have to admit that this is one my favourites from Elvis 70s repertoire, and he did it just so well.
THE point in this story is that PJ Proby is doing a version that is easily as good as Elvis's, DESPITE that Elvis was at his peak, while our PJ, who is - to most people - only a trouserripping clown, is doing this 10 years after his career crashed.
Fact is; this "clown" Jim Proby could with ease have been THE king if he just had at least tried to toe the line!
Fantastic!! Thanks for posting this. It sends shivers down my spine. Beautifully sung by the most talented singer of all time. 100% better than the original (sorry Elvis fans) but I'm biased as I love MR JIM PROBY.
Fantastic Singer and Presentation but he does NOT sound like Elvis.
