  • you make it look so easy! amazing job.

  • im an engineering student and i was wondering, can ur clay pots and cups survive a drop from 2 meter without being fractured, as this knowledge is needed to aid my research and project, or is there any way of reinforcing the clay to become stronger , please give feedback as ur feedback would be viable

  • yaeh his gut is really good, i adore your work

  • i tried this, and used your techniques in doing this for my final project in advanced ceramics at athens high

  • i always think that this looks easy but i know it's not.

  • Yraj!

  • hey could you tell me the ratings of your motor? i mean the data on the motor name plate.. i'm trying to build a potters wheel.. so i want to get an idea of the type of the motor to be used.. thanks in advance...

  • Beautiful work. I'm very impressed. I wish I could work the wheel like you can! Great job!

  • i like the sound the water makes xD

  • aww u shoulda left the bottom of the handle pokin out

  • First of all I want to say that I admoire the fact that you can wear your watch while throwing! I am so messy! :) Also, I am interested in the trimming tool you used, I have never seen one like that before.. and did you use calipers to measure for your lid? or are you just genius!

  • admire!!**

  • @laurlaur021 he makes the tools himself i believe. the best way I find to make mine is just simply using a hacksaw blade, bend the top to the right size grind of the teeth and create the shape you want for the tip with the grinder

  • What type of clay are you using?

  • i miss my pottery class. can't wait to go back in a month so i can attempt to do this

  • Who else is watching this video while listening to classical music?

  • lol, when you said throwing I thought you meant you were going to throw the finished product at a wall for the heck of it.

  • in the begging the will made a beat

  • throwing is so fun

  • this guy is a god of pottery amoung men

  • can tell me where i can find that material because i need it for a school project!! i would like to know where i can get the materials and where i can get one of those spinny things :) could you get back to me on that ASAP please?

  • do you glaze your peices after they're done?

  • the spout is positioned too low, you can only fill up with water where the spout an the hole fore it start.

the spout should be aiming upwaeds not forward as well

  • the spout is positioned too low, you can only fill up with water where the spout an the hole fore it start.

  • the size of the spout kinda threw off the whole design of the pot. it's way too large.

  • my pottery was actually pretty good. better than i thought

  • if im correct one person 'disliked' this video, now i don't know who this sick person is but they don't know anything about perfect art like his!

  • Cool

  • did he really spit on the handle

  • It sickens me how good you are! I am very excited to have ceramics next semester! I have only used the wheel once and made a TERRIBLE bowl! :)

  • Could you please tell me what the red disk you use is made of and how it sticks on to the wheel. I am an aprentice potter and have been admiring your dexterity.

    Keep up the good work!

    Catherine

  • It looks so messy! Oh well, I am sortof a neat freak. I am so upset!!! I totally wish I had a wheel!!! I only have clay and nothing to do with it. Any suggestions?

  • Where do you order the clay from?

  • Watching you working with clay is sooo relaxing. Would be nice to the final product glazed and fired.

  • do you have to keep the clay wet at all times.... even if you leave it out all night?

  • You are a white guy but very talented with your hands LOL. i really thought you were chinses or something. Good luck to you on your future projects. you are a very talented artist and an aspiration to many viewers on youtube.

  • @Spring595 you are an idiot

  • Do u know where i can get a REALLY good spinner?

  • Wow nice! But you should have done smaller holes so you can use loose leaf tea. :0)

  • where did you get your clay from?

  • Thanks for making it look easy >_>

  • next time tell the guy behind the camera to not fiddle with the zoom it made me a bit sea sick. Otherwise I thought this video was very helpful thank you for making it.

  • Dan,

Do you mind revealing the weight of clay used for the separate parts if the pot-- the body in particular? I've tried to make the orb shape in my ceramics class but can only succeed with a small amount of clay. Thanks.

  • I think it is a very well built tea pot, an idea on the details, when you put the accent line on the top of the body, you could carry that through to the top or bottom of the lid and on the tip of the spout. Just an idea for next time. It could fully bring the design together.

  • What do you call that tool you use when your cutting into the bottom of the body of the tea pot @3:09 ? What is that thing called!!

  • dear dan, 2 things. 1. i hate how much clay loves you and hates me XD im so jealous!

2.does it whistle like a real teapot? cuz if not then my tea is gonna be boiling for a while...

  • beautiful job, very hard to make this like you do.

  • thats realy hard work

  • i wish i could do that

  • How much clay did you use for the body?

  • What level would a teapot be? Beginner, Adv. Beginner, Intermediate, or advanced?

And how long did it take you to do this? Was attaching and trimming done during the "Leather Hard" stage?

    -curiosity-

  • Cool

  • It helps if the spout is more volcano shaped. Also, instead of one big hole, it's traditional to make a number of small holes. I usually do six in a flower shape, and attach the spout on then. The proportions are a bit off, but it's kinda cute that way, and I'm sure it's functional. ^^

  • That was so boring!!

    lol but very nice

  • very cool

  • do you detach your pieces from that red plate when they're leather-hard or when they're plastic?

  • and how are you capable of moving the clay so easily? do you condition the clay to be really workable or is it a matter of how much force you put in it?

  • you need to cone and compress !

  • love your work! Do you sell & ship internationally?

    madlove,

    J

  • Very nice job. How much does your father sell one like this for?

  • this video is awesome but i have a question, where could u get that type of clay?

  • did u have to score it before putting on the spout or would it stay?

  • @qwerty123456789089 No need to score as long as the clay's not too hard,I just do the lid size by eye.

    Cheers.

  • @qwerty123456789089 you make it look so easy. i want to take up pottery because of you. I think your teapot looks great but something was off about it that I couldn't put my finger on till the end. The spouts wider than I guess I'm used to seeing and it looked more like a watering can. Still beautiful though.

  • did u have to get meaurements for the lid to fit properly?

  • @qwerty123456789089 i think he estimated the size then slanted the rim of the lid like \____/ so that it didnt have to be precise

  • you really need to work on your speed Dan....you're SOOO slow! LMAO...just kidding obviously. Nice work dude

  • did you glaze the tea pot? do you have a photo of it?

i have made around 9 tea pots and destroyed them before the bisque firing.... still trying

  • Awesome! I wish I thought of making teapots to sell in my high school ceramics class. These would have made my $40 open house earnings tripple!

  • Professional work! It would have took me hours and hours to make this, and it wouldn't look as good as that. But this tea pot looks more like a pot you would use in gardening rather than drinking tea. Beautiful skill!

  • About the spout--in books I often read something about the application of the spout to the body--that it will untwist in firing and if you cut the spout, it will be very apparent because the cut will move to the side as it untwists, so you have to anticipate it by the way you attach the spout, but I can't figure out where it's supposed to be placed. Don't understand what they're saying. I know this doesn't apply to the beautiful teapot you made, but could you show us sometime?

  • How long did you let it dry before trimming it?? AWESOME Tea pot for your very first one :)))

  • @Nikkusama15 I leave them overnight or until "Leather Hard"

    Thanks.

  • @youdanxxx I'm sitting here wide-eyed and amazed. What talent and craftsmanship. When your teapot was finished, I actually applauded in my living room. :)

  • i value this tea pot (glazed and fully completed) 20$ to 50$

  • this video of making a teapot on the wheel is great for showing my students in high school, thank you. we are making teapots hand built, yet they may go on the wheel if they wish.

  • could you make glazing videos?

  • Excellent pot Dan!

  • Very nice. Keep up the good work. Kuddos from Hawaii.

    Aloha,

    Sean

  • Yay! Teapot! It's wonderfully done! :D

  • Dan, I just watched Bush throw a pot. You are too funny, that was great!

  • Hello Folks.

Believe me, a spout shaped like this pours perfectly.

In fact it has an inbuilt anti-dribble mechanism in it's design.

If you look at the end of the spout the flute actually makes it impossible for any liquid to dribble back down the outside as it would have to run up hill to do so,unlike a straight spout..

My Dad's been making and selling similar for getting on for 40 years now so don't worry.

It pours perfectly....and it won't dribble.

    Thanks,Dan.

  • Beautiful Pot .

  • Well I sure never doubted you could do it, Dan. Are you going to fire it? Then you can tell us how it pours. :-)

  • Nice first teapot, I love how clean it ended up...my hero !!! I was JUST watch a DVD on making spouts before I saw your video. He was saying the pour edge of a spout should to be sharp so it doesn't dribble down the pot when poured. I'd like to try it both way to test the theory :)

  • You are an orignal,Youdan! You produce wonderful, honest pots that break all the rules. It drives the university-trained-by-the book crowd wild. Please don;t change your spout or anything else you do. . You are a breath of fresh air in the stuffy potters world. Claire

  • SWEET TEAPOT!!

  • Good job Dan. I like watching you work clay. I just may have to give it a go on making a tea pot...

  • the spout should continuosly taper to poor best (narrowest at the tip). but if you prefer ther flaired out spout(like the one made in the video) it will gurgle, unless you cut it at a 45 degree angle.

  • That sure is a cute teapot. I like the spout. I'm curious how it pours.

    Your videos are fantastic. Thanks.

  • How does that kind of spout pour? I've heard that if you cut the tip of the spout flat it'll pour nicer or if you have a bulbous shape at the base of the spout. Thanks for the awesome video!
