@Joanne48S Thank you Joanne. Many of us have a very strong desire that all see the true God of Israel and the Bible and that they would have a personal relationship with Him. Shalom to you and may the miracle of Chanukah fill your heart.
I used to argue with the Jews years back about their messiah that had already come. Now I try to learn from them. I believe that Gods' name is Yahweh and that is the tetragramaton --the Jews unspoken name. Ha Shem the name . God is not a man ! The pagans influence was part of christianity , Mithra the sun god was born on december 25th and they exchanged gifts too. They had a baptism , as well as a commuinion . Oh well ! My apology goes out to the Jews --you were right , I am wrong.
@rhythmstatement-The Tetragrammaton-more correctly "YHUH" is pronounced (w/o the deceptive Masorite markers) as Yahuah -He said it would be in His land, His People, & His Son's Names,& thus it is; His land-Yahudah, His people-Yahudim, His Son-Yahushua/Yahusha/Yahshua.

@rhythmstatement but John the Baptist was Jewish so were Marry and Joseph, and Elizabeth..... and yeah we celebrate Christmas on the 25th but thats exactly why. its to spite the Romans and a day people already had off it was convenient and spiteful
I am a Christian, and I worship YAHWEH by celebrating Hanukkah ....never forget what miracles he has shown us...Jew or Christian....the Torah is not just for the Jews...but for all followers of YAHWEH!!!
@JC4crs The Genocide of Modein was just about the same as the Genocide in the towns of Sabra and Chatilla in 1982A.D. at the command of the "Hero General Ariel Sharon" almost 2100 years later.
@JC4crs ...There isn't one component that lines those two events together, other than the word Yisra'el...I believe you're playing on the people who know neither story...care to give it a jab with me?
@Vierotchka-- because Dorogoi dlinnoyu had a really nice tune, and is in a mode that the people of Palestine/Israel have loved for millennia. It seems very fitting to me.
Boris Fomin actually wrote the tune, for Konstantin Podrevski's words Дорогой длинною, but once Gene Raskin had written English lyrics and it had been covered a few times, Mary Hopkin had the big hit with Apple Records (B side to Turn-Turn-Turn) and Raskin's version was then translated and recorded in ½-dozen other languages.
And, yes, Jesus celebrated Hanukkah, and I am too.
I am a Catholic, but I am also ecumenical meaning I celebrate other holidays that are not Christian. I am an ecumenical Catholic. If invited to a Jewish synagogue, I would go. Happy Hanukkah.
@happy24ra Jesus was a Jew and He celebrated the Feast of Dedication. If it was something He did, then I want to do as He did, so I elect to celebrate Chanukah.
@l0vinlife754321 Actually, NO Jews killed Jesus: he was executed bu the Romans (in a manner in complete violation of Jewish law, as was the "trial" Jesus was supposedly subjected to.) To repeat that: NO JEW WAS COMPLICIT IN THE EXECUTION OF JESUS.
@shelbyANDtele I agree with bob. I am a born again Jesus lovin' Christian, but I celebrate the Biblical holidays, not the man-made and mostly pagan traditional holidays. I will follow what Jesus did and He went into Jerusalem for the Feast of Dedication(Hanukkah). I will follow His example.
im sorry..i just have to ask a question..it might be bad..it might not be....so im a christian..but i like the idea of hanukkah..and the festival of lights..and i got a minorah...im i going to go to hell becaus i like to religions?
@ShelbyANDTele Chanukah may be Jewish but Jesus was Jewish. That's the whole point, the menorah represents the "Light of the World" and who is that? Jesus, so you are not celebrating two religions. Jesus celebrated Chanukah, so why shouldn't we? By the way, did Jesus celebrate Christmas? No, Christmas was an invention of man in about the 3rd century A.D. Jesus was not even born in the December time frame. So, it makes more sense to celebrate something Jesus did than to honor a pagan holiday
@bobf72450 thank..cuz some people are saying cuz im christian..that lighting a minoarh is bad...but i like parts of both religions...christian..and jewish!
@bobf72450 I agree with you. Look what man has done with Christmas. Its not at all like it was when I was a child. Its become so commercialized that its pathetic.
Indeed Jesus did celebrate Hanukkah by chance, but just one thing: Jesus did not celebrate Christmas, He is Christmas himself. Christmas holiday is surely a tradition made up long after and it is indeed booked on the wrong date, overlapping a pagan holiday :-( But let's not blow Christians bubble about it. Both holidays mean two different things and after all the gift tradition in Hanukkah was lately inspired and taken after Christmas, which is not a Christian tradition either
@KattMercy Jesus was not celebrating the Feast of Dedication by chance; John points this out when Jesus says, "I am the light of the world." This was not by accident that he said this because the time of the feast had come when he said it. I celebrate Jesus, whether Christmas, Chanukah, Sukkot or whatever. I don't have to wait on a holiday to do it. My point is that we should celebrate Jesus, not the Christmas of Santa Claus and reindeer. Are we the church of Santa Claus or the Church of Jesus?
@bobf72450 Well said! I mean, those tradition stuff are just religious ornaments, that makes religion but G-d deserves committed lifestyle instead :-) I proudly follow traditions according to my heritage yet I'm with you when you claim for a no-date continuous celebration in the Spirit. G-d bless. Kattie
@KattMercy Awesome, Katt. I did not mean to sound harsh about this but it's all about Jesus. I believe you agree. We can still exhibit a spirit of giving at this time (and all the time for that matter) as a witness of what Jesus has done for us and be thankful for the grace He has shown us. May the Lord bless and keep you and make His face to shine upon you, always.
@bobf72450 HOW can Jesus Celebrate Christmas if it is the commemoration of his Birth??
and was implemented by his Church of followers.
(Church=People Temple=Building)
Possibly after the conversion of Constantine.
True that Jesus was NOT born in Dec. Most likely in the Spring. but the Celebration was changed for religious strategic reason. (research it yourself. I won't hand you everything) So, That's when we Christians Celebrate it and That's FINE.
@JC4crs I don't really understand what you are trying to say but I have no problem in celebrating the coming of Jesus (his birth). The problem I see is that the secular aspect of Christmas has overshadowed the real reason and issue for the season. Even though it is at the wrong time, there is certainly nothing but good that will come when Christ is elevated to His proper place in worship and praise. The quote "church" has made many decisions for us in the past that turned out to be wrong.
@bobf72450 if Jesus was around he wouldn't be Jewish because the Jewish don't believe that Jesus was the Savior why you broght that up im not sure and Jesus did NOT celebrate Chanukah did you mean Passover?we dont celebrate Christmas when Jesus was born did but thats because when he was born just about every one hated him Herod sent the Three wise men to find him so he could be killed. so NO we dont have an exact date we took a Roman holiday out of convinces and to spite the Romans..
@bobf72450 wait Jesus did celebrate Chanukah. sorry =/ BUT the fact that the menorah Represents 'the light of the world' and than saying that Jesus is 'the light of the world' cant both be true at the same time.
@onebigmess253 You can research that and find out but yes is the answer. He is "The Light" and yes the menorah is a symbol of that light coming to the world. There is nothing difficult about understanding this. I know 6 year old kids who understand it.
@bobf72450 i am NOT denying that Jesus is the light. all i am saying is that Chanukah is a Jewish celebration and that the Jewish dont believe that Jesus is the Messiah so to say that the Menorah represents Jesus as the light makes NO sence at all.
@onebigmess253 The Bible teaches that Jews and Gentiles will come together as one in the future and become the bride of Christ. As Christians we understand everything in the old & new testaments is instruction for us to learn about YHVH and how we should live. The menorah was the lamp in the tabernacle and temple and was a picture of Christ becoming the Light of the World. How Jewish is this?(100%) When those Jews see their Messiah & come to Yeshua, it will be perfectly clear Jesus is the light.
@onebigmess253 it is understandable since the Pharisees and Sages rejected Yahoshua (commonly called Jesus) because Yahoshua opposed their man-made traditions. However, all physical things are symbolic of things in the heavens. In John 8:12 and 9:5, Yahoshua calls himself the light (righteousness) of the world, meaning that whoever follows him will not be in darkness (sin). The 8 days of light for the one jar of oil was a blessing from יהוה, just as Yahoshua was as also our redemption.
@aselmac Take the money and give to charity instead. We can do without the fluff and tradition. The season is all about Jesus. This is one emphasis of Chanukah and it should be more a part of everyone's life as well.
@ShelbyANDTele Jesus observed the Feast of Dedication (Hebrew = Hanukkah) in John 10:22. He also observed the Father's commanded Feasts (see Lev. 23) that were given to all Israel, not just the tribe of Judah (Jews). Remember, the kingdom was split after Solomon & only Judah remained (with 2 half tribes), so if you are grafted in to Israel according to Paul in Romans, then the Father's Feasts are still WONDERFUL to celebrate. :)
@jessica8184 thanks..cuz some people are saying cuz im christian..that lighting a minoarh is bad...but i like parts of both religions...christian..and jewish!
@utubewatcher9100 actually, the term Jew is synonymous with being of the Pharisees, which the Messiah, whose name was more closely pronounced as Yahoshua, was adamantly opposed to since the Talmud broke the command of Deuteronomy 4:2 & 12:32 by adding or diminishing any command within the Torah. In other words, to say the Messiah is a Jew is the same as saying he supports the religion of Judaism, which is actually wrong. Just read the gospels and you will see how Yahoshua dealt with Pharisees.
@ShelbyANDTele You are not going to hell for honoring the Jewish faith and the chosen people. As Christians we love all people. As children of Christ we follow both the old testament and new. If you have accepted Jesus into your life, you are saved.
