He doesn't even use the other bass drum....thats why I love Vinny and other drummers like Nicko Mcbrain because don't they use double bass pedals, they do double bass with one pedal because they know how the drums should be played
Never really liked his solos before always preferd Carmine Appice's playing but this is fantastic & They both have Changed from Aquarian Drumheads To Evans Drumheads now
Also, Vinnie has never used a double-pedal or double bass drums. Or at least he didn't use them when I was really into DIO which has been quite a while. I can say I'm 99% positive he didn't use them on Holy Diver, The Last In Line, Sacred Heart, or Dream Evil. After that I stopped buying any new DIO albums. My tastes in music changed. I still break out some old DIO every now and then b/c it rocks!
For anybody who's saying this solo is too basic or isn't very good, keep in mind that he's playing on his brother's kit during the taping of an instructional video. He probably just sat down and started playing whatever came to him. If he had wanted to play a kickass solo he would've. I got to meet Carmine & Vinnie at a drum clinic way back in 1988.Believe me, both are great drummers.I will agree w/the person who said that Vinnie borrowed a lot from Bonham. All musicians borrow from their heroes.
@ilovezildjian Well, it's not inaccurate, it's not updated... Last year, he used DW drums and Aquarian drumheads. He switched recently to Ddrum and Evans...
vinny appice is a awsome drummer and i feel bad for him tony and geezer after ronnies passing which the 1 year anniversary of ronnies passing will be soon. as far as jazz drummers being better than him i dont know about that 1 .dont like seeing negative comments people should keep there comments to them selves
I'd seriously like to see some of the people that comment Vinny sucks because he has no toms or what ever the fuck they say to actually play what he just played perfectly. They probably use a double bass pedal and don't know shit worth of Rudiments, I appreciate all of the drummers/fans that say he is a great drummer because i'd have to agree with them 100%. He's my favourite drummer and i learn from him, he's the original and one of the best Metal/Rock drummers out there today.
Vinny´s good. They hardly make drummers like this anymore. Ian Paice, Jon Bonham, barrimore Barlow, Phil Collins etc etc really know they way around a snare. Today eveyone´s overdoing the double bass drumming. Get´s boring after a while, and with axis pedals and drum triggers it really isn´t that difficult... Using your imagination and making music with just a snare, that´s difficult..
To those who think Vinny is a bad drummer go listen to Holy diver and Mob rules!! And one more thing: Since monsters musically like Iommi, Butler and Dio chose him to play with them( and they obviously know a lot more than you smartarses that think you know everything about drums) that's got to mean he's really great!! End of story! Oh, and he also played with John Lennon and a little before he joined Sabbath in 1980, Ozzy asked him to play with him but he turned him down.
Appice bros are not bad drummers, but i think they have not too much creativity at the time of make solos, they just apply rudiments, requires a concept
im not the one to argue i know what i saw but who knows maybe im wrong it still doesnt change the fact that vinnie is a great drummer thanks for uploading this masterpiece and for all you haters id like to see you do better playing nothing but a snare bass hihat and ride
@JackMehoff845 of course. i hate arguing too. maybe you're wrong, maybe i'm wrong, who cares? the important thing is he's a great drummer, with or without two bass drums, double pedal, toms, splashes, crashes, a band or more :D
@DemilichFan you mean his brother's throne :D one of Carmine's Slingerland drumkits was leopard-ish, too. i guess his actual DDrum kit is somewhat like that
@JackMehoff845 nope, sorry. i thought that too, but he uses to take his left foot from the hi-hat pedal and puts it down... i saw this in a drum solo from a H&H concert.
anyway, the point is: he could, but doesn't use, haha!
personalty i dont thing either of the appice's are that good personally, id still rather watch joe morello dany carrey or the drummer from necrophagist.
I saw Vinnie with The Lizards, (opening for Vanilla Fudge), he was competent but Bobby Rondinelli who also played with The Lizards are so much better.
@JoeJacari hey da friggin guys' a friggin gajabagool pullin dat broken pedal shit on his own brudda. how bout a clam chowdah made outta ya BAWLS vinnie!?!!? EHHH?!?!?! That's wierd. I just came from a Vinnie Appice drum clinic and he made a big deal of the fact that he has never used double bass. Doesn't look like he's actually using the pedal but still.
@SotR59 yeah, this is his brother Carmine's kit. Carmine Appice is one of the double bass pioneers, and Vinnie is just impromptu on this kit. a kickass job though. he doesnt use the double bass anyway, so its cool.
The thing about Vinny is that you think his playing sounds "basic" or "easy" then he throws in these crazy quick snare fills or what I call triplet bomb drops. Basic, but at the same time edgy and snappy. That's what makes him such as awesome drummer!
@li4m This is one of the stupidest comments I've ever seen on youtube!!
I love Bonzo and is one of my fav drummers but why people keep on writing on videos that drummer is better than this blah blah blah
