  • Be my STUDENT! I'll be your friend, then off into our future, much BRIGHTER...

  • 80´s metal drummer no:1

  • That snare is perfect Mix of Crack , Punch & Sizzle

  • He doesn't even use the other bass drum....thats why I love Vinny and other drummers like Nicko Mcbrain because don't they use double bass pedals, they do double bass with one pedal because they know how the drums should be played

  • Amazing technique on that snare drum. Made it sound like he had at least a tom or two. Vinny is so under-rated.

  • Never really liked his solos before always preferd Carmine Appice's playing but this is fantastic & They both have Changed from Aquarian Drumheads To Evans Drumheads now

  • Also, Vinnie has never used a double-pedal or double bass drums. Or at least he didn't use them when I was really into DIO which has been quite a while. I can say I'm 99% positive he didn't use them on Holy Diver, The Last In Line, Sacred Heart, or Dream Evil. After that I stopped buying any new DIO albums. My tastes in music changed. I still break out some old DIO every now and then b/c it rocks!

  • For anybody who's saying this solo is too basic or isn't very good, keep in mind that he's playing on his brother's kit during the taping of an instructional video. He probably just sat down and started playing whatever came to him. If he had wanted to play a kickass solo he would've. I got to meet Carmine & Vinnie at a drum clinic way back in 1988.Believe me, both are great drummers.I will agree w/the person who said that Vinnie borrowed a lot from Bonham. All musicians borrow from their heroes.

  • what head is the snare...its so musical!!

  • @Jabarichonicles it's Aquarian :D

    he endorses aquarian drumheads

  • @laauuurrrr

do you know the specific model?

  • @laauuurrrr He actually endorses EVANS just like Carmine.....don't know where you got your inaccurate information.

  • @ilovezildjian Well, it's not inaccurate, it's not updated... Last year, he used DW drums and Aquarian drumheads. He switched recently to Ddrum and Evans...

  • @ilovezildjian he also used Sabian custom cymbals... now he uses Istanbul Mehmet...

  • this is an extremely musical solo especially for someone playing a kit scaled down this much

  • vinny appice is a awsome drummer and i feel bad for him tony and geezer after ronnies passing which the 1 year anniversary of ronnies passing will be soon. as far as jazz drummers being better than him i dont know about that 1 .dont like seeing negative comments people should keep there comments to them selves

  • I'd seriously like to see some of the people that comment Vinny sucks because he has no toms or what ever the fuck they say to actually play what he just played perfectly. They probably use a double bass pedal and don't know shit worth of Rudiments, I appreciate all of the drummers/fans that say he is a great drummer because i'd have to agree with them 100%. He's my favourite drummer and i learn from him, he's the original and one of the best Metal/Rock drummers out there today.

  • Vinny´s good. They hardly make drummers like this anymore. Ian Paice, Jon Bonham, barrimore Barlow, Phil Collins etc etc really know they way around a snare. Today eveyone´s overdoing the double bass drumming. Get´s boring after a while, and with axis pedals and drum triggers it really isn´t that difficult... Using your imagination and making music with just a snare, that´s difficult..

  • I know of at least one person better.......ME! As soon as I get the studio back up in functional form, I'll show you. :-)

  • i know a few jazz drummers who are better...........

  • To those who think Vinny is a bad drummer go listen to Holy diver and Mob rules!! And one more thing: Since monsters musically like Iommi, Butler and Dio chose him to play with them( and they obviously know a lot more than you smartarses that think you know everything about drums) that's got to mean he's really great!! End of story! Oh, and he also played with John Lennon and a little before he joined Sabbath in 1980, Ozzy asked him to play with him but he turned him down.

  • but that shit

  • Dio said on "That Metal Show" that Carmine is better. End of story.

  • Appice bros are not bad drummers, but i think they have not too much creativity at the time of make solos, they just apply rudiments, requires a concept

  • @OKstateCOWboyz And so are you :D

  • the whole point i think is that he is trying to be creative, and open himself to more fills/rolls/etc. this guy is definately great, cheers.

  • The borther, Carmine, is better than him.

  • I didnt know Quentin Tarantino knew how to drum this good...

  • the pedal at the end is not the same on as the one at the beginning...

  • I know they are brothers, but Vinny sounds the same as Carmine. It's just Vinny plays more heavy metal than Carmine.

  • In all it's simplicity drumming like this means a lot, great stuff, love it.

  • Is there a reason for choosing two bass drums over a double-pedal? Are they tuned differently?

  • im not the one to argue i know what i saw but who knows maybe im wrong it still doesnt change the fact that vinnie is a great drummer thanks for uploading this masterpiece and for all you haters id like to see you do better playing nothing but a snare bass hihat and ride

  • @JackMehoff845 of course. i hate arguing too. maybe you're wrong, maybe i'm wrong, who cares? the important thing is he's a great drummer, with or without two bass drums, double pedal, toms, splashes, crashes, a band or more :D

    thanks for the comments!

  • @JackMehoff845 hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • @JackMehoff845 ARE YOU CHALLENGING ME?

  • really awesome but his leopard throne is really gay.

  • @DemilichFan you mean his brother's throne :D one of Carmine's Slingerland drumkits was leopard-ish, too. i guess his actual DDrum kit is somewhat like that

  • I'm going to see him in just a few days now!!!

  • To everyone who says he sucks....

I'd like to see your drumwork using only a bass drum, snare, hi-hat and ride. Go ahead! amaze us all-or STFU.

  • aquarian heads slam, love it.

  • His footwork was ok but that's it

  • i love the snare double bass combo thats sick no fucking tom for him to use as a crutch

  • @rockfan7789 yeah, but it's his brother's kit, he doesn't use double bass at all

  • @laauuurrrr vinnie uses a double pedal instead of and actual double bass kit

  • @JackMehoff845 he NEVER uses double pedal OR two bass drums

  • @laauuurrrr look at the drum battle between him and his bro hes using one there

  • @JackMehoff845 nope, sorry. i thought that too, but he uses to take his left foot from the hi-hat pedal and puts it down... i saw this in a drum solo from a H&H concert.

anyway, the point is: he could, but doesn't use, haha!

  • @Polaris0114 well, then go listen to korn or dream theater or someone who doesn't play that "simple"

  • @Polaris0114 well i mean all he has is a snare and bass to work with

  • Awesome vinny !!!

  • personalty i dont thing either of the appice's are that good personally, id still rather watch joe morello dany carrey or the drummer from necrophagist.

  • @Polaris0114 that's the point. read the description before before commenting.

  • wow when i first saw the kit i thought "WEAK!" then i got mind fucked by his playing patterns O.o

  • i met him! :)

  • wow. sounds just like Ralph Buttawitz!

  • I saw Vinnie with The Lizards, (opening for Vanilla Fudge), he was competent but Bobby Rondinelli who also played with The Lizards are so much better.

  • @JoeJacari hey da friggin guys' a friggin gajabagool pullin dat broken pedal shit on his own brudda. how bout a clam chowdah made outta ya BAWLS vinnie!?!!? EHHH?!?!?! YOU EVA KILL SOMEBAHDY?!??! i killed tree guys over a slice of friggin rays famous wit sausage an peppa!!! dotchu go bustin my friggin agates vinnie.

  • that snare sounds aweosme

  • @palunga09 i'm sorry... were you kidding, or are you really that stupid?

  • @laauuurrrr palunga09 is either a guy with a great sense of humor, or a moron.

  • Listen to Sabbath's Mob Rules and you'll learn the meaning of tasteful and BIG drum playing! Works fantastically with Iommi's supermassive riffs.

  • Vinnie is so much better!

  • carmine so much better

  • That's wierd. I just came from a Vinnie Appice drum clinic and he made a big deal of the fact that he has never used double bass. Doesn't look like he's actually using the pedal but still.

  • @SotR59 there's nothing weird. you haven't read the description!

  • @laauuurrrr OIC, no I didn't notice there was more in the description.

  • @SotR59 yeah, this is his brother Carmine's kit. Carmine Appice is one of the double bass pioneers, and Vinnie is just impromptu on this kit. a kickass job though. he doesnt use the double bass anyway, so its cool.

  • @SotR59 I think he is just playing his brothers kit.

  • @drumsanddrumming

You're right. Some one already pointed that out. I had not read the entire description.

  • @SotR59 and I saw that other comment now( ;))

  • love the part 27 to 29 seconds

  • @powerslaver6 sorry 24 to 27 :)

  • The thing about Vinny is that you think his playing sounds "basic" or "easy" then he throws in these crazy quick snare fills or what I call triplet bomb drops. Basic, but at the same time edgy and snappy. That's what makes him such as awesome drummer!

  • vinny appice and bill ward are very underrated drummers. bill ward, as far as i'm concerned is just as good as bonham was.

  • It would be nice to see Vinnie put his left foot on the other bass drum pedal and use it!!!!!!!1

  • I use carmine appice sticks maannn unreall.

  • there'is anything of difficlut???

  • @laauuurrrr why tihs video is so easy?

  • @PoliticaDalBasso news for you: it's not that easy

  • @laauuurrrr not fail, but neither is it so difficult

  • @PoliticaDalBasso

Dude. Seriously! Let me see you do this.

  • @PoliticaDalBasso We’re all waiting for your video to show us some hard stuff…..

  • Makes It Look So Easy.

  • nobody can hit the drums as hard as vinnny!

  • John Bonham, my friend, ate two Vinnys every morning

  • What I mean is vinny carries on the tradition of John Bonham of any drummer today.

  • Sure, and John Bonham was 8" tall, invented sex and natural food. Too bad there is a drum generation in-between these do guys :-)

  • @li4m but Vinny still it awesome, really underrated

  • @li4m but all of them are trying to get that Bonham-sound, (no one really succeeds)

  • @li4m This is one of the stupidest comments I've ever seen on youtube!!

I love Bonzo and is one of my fav drummers but why people keep on writing on videos that drummer is better than this blah blah blah

Then just watch the other drummer!!!!

Bonzo is Bonzo and played amazing stuff with LZ,Vinny is Vinny and played amazing stuff with Black Sabath,Dio and so on!!Just enjoy what they do,why you need to compare them?it's music not sport!!!

    Peace

    Fab

  • @Fabionkeman agreed! at least some people on youtube are thinking before running their cock suckers!

  • @Fabionkeman Thats your point of view =).

Why dyou need to tell me that my comment is stupid then ? Those are just comments, not sport...

  • @Fabionkeman well said drummers are all different you have to see the differences and enjoy them

  • @li4m No, he didn't. Bonham was a great drummer, the best at his time. But Vinnie has alot more groove. Bonham is a bit overrated, the whole band was overrated. Zeppelin was great, but still overrated. They sucked live, especially Plant.

  • @li4m WTF does John Bonham's sexual preferences have to do with Vinny being such a lousy drummer?

  • ok, remo, but is a remo coated emperor or ambassador..?

    thenks

  • @pachopavan sorry, i don't know that. if i find out, i'll tell you

  • @pachopavan both of the appice brothers are endorsed by aquarian as far as i know. i think they are aquarian heads.

  • @pachopavan i checked it out, the drumheads on the bass-drums and snare are Aquarian Carmine Appice Signature Series and Aquarian Carmine Appice Snare Drumhead. so, signatures :D

  • what drum heads use in the base drum and the snare, it sound's amazing

  • @pachopavan the snare - Aquarian, the bass drum i think it's Remo, because the bass drums are from Carmine Appice's Slingerland kit

  • hi has got the best drumkit to play grooves

  • Your a douche

  • wow he plays just like me!

  • ... he's earned it, though it is tough being Carmines brother.

I meet Vinny at a sound check, my friend introduced us. When he told Vinny I was a drummer, he got a look in his eye like he wanted to kill me, for that first 100th of a second I thought he was going to throw a punch.

  • Why though?

  • great drummer i go wit jazz a lil more but their different styles so...

  • I would suggest that when you've been playing for 30, maybe 40 years with bands like Derringer, Black Sabbath, and Dio, you only need to practice one or two hours a month.

  • that's right!

anyway, he plays at least 15 shows a month, so after all these years of playing, that's a way to practice and to keep (himself) in shape

  • unfortunately for you, he really can play drums... sorry

  • i have really been getting into this guys playing latley he just has that groove and sound that never goes out of style

  • One of the most solid drummers ever.....

  • His druming on Holy Diver is AMAZING!!!!

  • His drumming is AMAZING!!!! .

  • True!

What really I meant was that everything came together on Holy Diver. Great songs, great energy, great musicians, great chemistry!

  • I agree with nastygater. ive been playing for almost 20yrs and this is so smoov. he is an amazing drummer. so heavy and smooth at the same time. I prefer him over his brother drumming wise. Carmine is amazing also but different (ie personality wise)

  • wow. Look at his huge kit that he usually uses. and then u look at this one, and it has no toms, but he manages an amazing drum solo.

He only used 2 drums and 2 cymbals.

  • chidos los rredobles!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Amazing! look how he holds the sticks! different... but nice

  • Vinny's the man! Love his style and the way he works that snare.

  • This guy is so bad ass. Try doing that shit. He makes it look simple.

    Trust me it's not.

One of the best drummers of all time.

  • Why is he playing with the butts of the sticks

  • for more power...

  • Vinny Appice is a 70's drummer and so on. I love his style of playing. Hes pretty good, i saw him with Heaven and Hell a few days ago. He rules!

  • pleasure to watch this! thk fr posting

  • what snare head is thaty?

  • Aquarian

  • That's some excellent drumming. A real musician here. Legend.

  • muy buen trabajo de tarola y bombo

    excelente

  • I salute you,master!
