  • *Head

  • At the start, is like the Mr Cube Hed

  • Problem: I started by making just a box (no neck yet), cut the eyes, mouth, cheeckbone and other shapes in the face and replaced them 'till it looked ok. Then i added turbosmooth and polygon selected the nose and extruded it. But for some reason I can't move anything anymore. When I try to move the vertexes or surfaces it simply wont let me. The x,y and z axisses have turned grey and now I can only drag the vertexes on the x and y axis. What do I do? :'(

  • @wannabeers did you press the spacebar? check that.

  • @Shainkov just tried, but doesnt solve the problem :/ any other suggestions? maybe you know how to completely reset 3ds max to factory settings (and i dont mean reset, i mean deleting any comstum preferences) ?

  • @wannabeers Go to Customize>Load custom UI scheme >DefaultUI.ui or Customize>Revert to Startup Layout

  • @Shainkov tried it, doesnt work, other suggestions?

  • @wannabeers Turn it again into an editable poly.

  • @Shainkov wow,this song is amazing while i doing in 3ds max..thank you!

  • this helps a lot, i just don't get how you did the eye, you selected the vertex in the center and suddenly it changes color and the lines disappeared and when you use the select border and scale, you drag it(holding shift) and it works, doesn't work for me man. I clicked on the vertex on the center and removed it, is that right? or you did use something? please help....thanks

  • @jcunciano Maybe doesn't work because there must me some vertex disconnected from the others, so the line or the edge is not a complete and is not a single line. Check that. Practice with a Cilinder, delete the top or base then try to scale it.

  • @Shainkov THANKS, i'll try it man..hope to see more of ur tutorials..

  • Cool Low Poly face modeling technique! This is gold for a game engine!

  • this is actually helping me heaps

    its straightforward

i think this is the best tutorial i have ever seen

even though its low quality im learning a lot

  • song sounds like it belongs to FFVII.

reminds me of the city of the ancients

  • Terrific!

  • nice!!!

but this is a LOW quality!

  • @Zhikakurd we know.

  • what is the name of this song ?

  • @naruto3zo i created it using FruityLoops, the name is 'The mime'. If you want to make another version of it. Feel free to do it.

  • This make me sleep

  • super sick music ...

  • could you teach me how to resize the object?

  • Very nice!

  • that music sure is annoying

  • thanks if you upload new next tutorial than surely inform me

  • in your video box shape doesnt change but when i apply meshsmmoth or turbosmooth modifier shape changes

  • due to ur unclear video i dont get exactly modifer u used after symetry plz ,plz wirte wat have u use thank you for ohter part

  • @MrNepalibir ohh! "Meshmooth", but try to use TurboSmooth.! thnx! Ihave to make a new tut i know. This one is too old .

  • @Shainkov well this time make it hd

  • its nice tutorial but im not seing clearly in this video can u right each every note that u click in modifier

  • lol. this music is mad creepy. lol. thats all i was thinking when watching this.

  • i got another question.... there are 2 vertices connected to each other and i want to disconnect the 2. in short i want to remove the lines between the 2 points. could you teach me how to do it? anyway, is it possible to disconnect the 2 points? XD sorry if i keep on asking questions XD

  • @5iclozqxm0ef to delet the line between two points, right click>remove. You can customize that, by creating a shortcut, like using the spacebar to do the same.

  • errm im still having trouble adding vertex. i tried cut and yeah it adds vertex but doesnt add anywhere i want. is there a shortcut for adding vertex?

  • @5iclozqxm0ef it is better to use the snap tool (S) while you're cutting, (always in vertex mode.) Also you can create vertices with the 'create' button. It will create vertices but then you will have to create a face to connect them eachother.

  • how do you add points on the box? im still a beginner

  • @5iclozqxm0ef by dividing the mesh, connecting edges to each other. Select the edges you want to connect, then right click>connect. OR you can use the cut tool. Go to vertex mode then to its properties, find the cut button, select it. Now you can connect edges manually.

  • @Shainkov urmm how do i make the lines visible? mine doesnt show lines. :(

  • @5iclozqxm0ef press F4

  • @Shainkov could you teach me all the short cut keys you know? if its ok with you

  • @5iclozqxm0ef "W" to move, "E" to rotate. Go to Customize>Customize user interface to see other short cuts or create them.

  • @Shainkov is there a way to move a point from one plae to another with destroying the model? i tried to drag a point and i want to move it a little lower but when i drag the point my model is ruined. could you teach me how to move the point without destroying the model?

  • You obviously suck. Your mesh has several 5 sided polygons, thats a no-no in 3d modeling.

  • @WickedV3ng3nc3 Obviouslt all the problems you see, i'm sure you can solve them.

    Clever kid.

  • @prettykaeko Using the Symmetry Modfier.

  • Im trying to follow your tutorial but its proving hard as there is no voice telling me what your doing. so i was wondering if you could tell me at 0:52 seconds you select the edge and highlight the X: at the bottom and then seem to click on the number 20 on the timeline. This does not seem to work for me or is there something im missing/?

  • aaaaaaaaah 'show end result' how noobish of me :P

  • When I use symmetry and go back down to my edit poly layer the symmetry effect disappears does anyone know how to fix this?

  • El hombre es un segundo Dios ha creado a otro hombre con barro virtual pronto se le dara el soplo de vida...! aleluya...! sigan la serie de videos--!

  • nice music fking dark n creepy like it alot

  • ê rapar...essa música é sinistra!

  • muy bien (very goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood)

  • may have asked questions before but any tips on getting the head shape u want

  • @digimonworld123 Do not divide more the mesh until you're ok with its shape.

  • wow.....

  • omg that song make me sleep but anyway is an awesome tutorial ;)

  • whats the name of the music?

  • The name of the music is 'The Mime', i created using FruityLoopsStudio.

  • oki nice melody^^

  • That music is so cool! You should upload it.

  • come on it is too fucking fast

  • nah you're just slow bahahah

  • posteare el resultado luego XD.

reading some comments, can i see much people

have troubles following the steeps of this tutorial,

in fact this tutorial is faster if is the 1st time you

    work on 3dmax.

you must find a tutorial whit the basics of the soft,

knowing this, is relative simple do it

    xd.

  • I really loved your tutorial. But please, if you can, I'd rather hear you talk and explain it while I watch you do this. Please please, if you can just record your voice over this vid, it would be fantastic. Thank you so much. <3

  • Cool Song

Remenber me FFXII or something like that

    You are really good

  • The music sort of reminds me of FFX in the cave

  • The music and look of the head reminds me of the movie "signs"

  • same

  • the tut is good.

man 3d is hard for noobs like me.

aside of that the song remembers me the resident evil game.

it scares the heck out of me.

    LOL

  • hahaha the first zombie, if you know the basics, you can do this.

  • same

  • Hey your are the man. I learned so much from this tutorial. Im pretty new to 3ds max but i actually got a pretty good result by following your tutorial. 5/5

  • oh sorry i accidentally rated it 1 star :(

  • Difficult 5/5 i will try

  • why is that sometimes people have polys that look like squares ( [ ] ) and other have a pine through ( [/] ) ??? and how to you switch between... also, how do i 100% reset maz without reinstalling??? (NOT file > REsET)

  • These [ ] polys are quad polys, and the [/] are triangle polys -_-

  • the squared are editable poly and the triangles are ediatable mesh :P

  • What is this software program called that you're doing this with?

  • The software is called 3ds max

  • Comment removed

  • but how do u make the selection turn gray like that as seen in 5:48?

  • Select your selection and hit alt-x

  • good tut

  • very good tutorial-will be very helpful for me 5/5

  • Very well done !!!! a quick way to modeling.Well done!!! 5* to u ........thanks for uploading

  • Tutorial is good...PRofessional...but the music sucks.....very suckkss..it's siCK

  • hahhhaaha, the music i made it, and its name is 'the mime',it looked very appropriate for the model, hehehe, yaah, sick.

    Thnx!

  • but the tutorial is good....you helped me a lot....tnx for uploading...:D

  • @Shainkov I like the music. Silent hill fan too?

  • @DarklingX yes, i like SH too.

  • Hmm...isn't a "tutorial" supposed to have some commentary so you can follow along? The music is nice but I'd much rather know what the hell you're doing.

  • Well, you have to know at least the basics to do this.

hehe i know what you mean, i don't like tuts with no voice either.I was too lazy at that moment.Hope you can do it anyway.

  • Okay well I least I can understand that explanation...LOL. I really hope you add a commentary some day or at least some instructions as to what buttons you're pushing.

  • buen trabajo.... me quede sin palabras...

  • jajaja que exagerado jajaja gracias.

  • serio... es q soy nuevo en esto xD

    pero igual muy rapido... jaja

  • kudos

  • GOOD JOB............

  • gr8 tutorial. I use 3ds Max 9, im not sure if it is the same in both programs, but how do i insert vertices?

  • Hm...I did it while I was at college but I saw you do it here and now I can't figure out how to do it here is to keep the symmetry visual on while modeling so you can see both sides. Dx

  • Re music:

I love it, where's it from?

  • I created it on Fruity Loops.its name is 'The mime'.

  • dude wat up wit the goth music

  • Do you like it?

  • quality is horrilbe, cant read anything.

great result, but you shoudl really try recording it again in hq

  • Music is the best! But I don't like 3D... xDD

  • insane music!

  • the problem with the cube is that you always have the same face at the end , use a plane is 100% better

  • That has no sense at all.

This is just an example,it depends on you to create something different.

  • yup =] , this makes no sense , box modeling FTW XD -- maybe cause i suck at planes !! lol

anyway great tut =] i always had problems with modeling heads ! but this seems working =] , i didn't finish it yet but so far my model looks good =] KEEP ON !

  • Please post a video about your model.

  • ok =] i'll do it now~

  • i post it as a video response to part 5

  • the basics is stubit wtf! say words instead musick how to delete the half bloody hell!!!

  • Great video, but I need to see what is procedure of this...where do you click with mouse...it just happen to fast...do you have link to download all your videos in one package?

  • Nope, that's not possible.

This video is easy to follow if you know the basics.

youhave to create a box, the divide it, cut one side, add symmetry, add some meshsmoot.Start modelling

You will have to cut, use snap tool to make it easier.

  • i dnt knwthe bacis thts y im searching for em :P

  • words instead of music would HELP!!! -_-;

  • heheh yaah.C'mon it's not that complicated to follow.

You only have to know how to use the basic tools.

    thnx :D

  • how to i split it in one when i try it select all the box pls help me

  • First conver the primitive into an editable poly (right click/convert to).then divide the mesh fom its properties, then cut it.

  • what´s the name of that song?

  • The name of this melody is 'The mime'. i invented it using fruity loops.

But,everyone can use it of course.

  • 3d max autodesk

  • Indeed.

  • you should make one with voice

  • ya i found tuts with voice, :)

  • what happened at 15 exactly? Cuz I was going to make everything step-by-step and your box got a different configuration...

  • what do you mean?Nothing happened at that second.

  • I don't know you tell me... cuz I tried to add symetry and it didn't work

  • IF it didn't work you can try to go back and then recut/redivide the mesh from other side, or check the symetry options to fix it's position.

  • It worked thanks!

Oh... and btw how do you add those lines or borders or whatever to your "human" creation?

Try to be a little slower next time, cuz you are to fast... There are people here, including me, that can't catch up with you!

  • what lines-borders?

    You mean when i cut the mesh?vertex mode,cut,then i select the 3d magnet(snap tool) to help me when i cut it.press 'S' to activated-deac

  • Exacly that's it!

Look, thanks for all of your support ^^(otherwise this wouldn't be a tutorial) :P

  • hey! i want to see your model!

  • I created a box, added Editable Poly, added Symetry, went back to Editable Poly, but Symetry is not active, can some1 plz help? Its really annoying to switch between Symetry and Editable Poly :/

    (BTW, thanks for tutorial)

  • Please pay attention at this sec->00:33, can you see where the cursor is? press that.

    ^^

  • Um...that didn´t work, u see, I have both Symetry and Editable poly on, but when I highlight the Editable Poly, Symetry is not active (I can see only the half of the box that I didn´t delete) and when I hightlight Symetry, then I can see both sides, and that's the annoying part, I have to swich between Symetry and Editable Polyto do this stuff. And yeah I tryed that with MeshSmooth.

  • Readme again, do what i told you, that's the only way to keep the other modifier actived when you go back to the first one.

    Press that little white rectangle.

  • Yeah I did that, doesn´t work though :/

  • how long it take you to get used to the program?

  • But i'm not an expert, there are maany things i don't know about it yet.

To make this head you don't need to much time.Just bne sure to know the basic things, like moving, extruding, deleting, cutting, adding modifiers.

  • ok ill try thanks

  • how do u create more of those lines

  • Try to get familiar with the program before starting with this tutorial.

You should already know how to divide the mesh.

Watch where i click to do it.And do the same.

  • ok thanks so do video game designers use 3ds max to make characters for games?

  • Loads

  • ok where do i go to add symetry

  • symetry is in the same place where are the other modifiers.

  • umm how do u cut it in half and then make the one side do what the otherside does?

  • Convert it in editable poly, then select the half of it, and deletet it, then add symetry.

  • you a dumb beach why u using alt shortcuts when your screen blurry like we know wat u pressing phagg

  • No alt shortcut was pressed.

Make your question(s), i'll unswer you.

  • Sweet nice movie!! creepy music though! but still VERY good work!! ;)

  • do you i can find pictures of a front and

    side view of a head

  • I never use them.i Can't help you with that.

You don't really need them.Try to make a head following this video.Gogogogo!! you can do it!

    thnx for posting!!!!!

  • scary music dude haha

  • do you know how to attach a head to a body

  • could you show how to do this in a free or less expensive progrma? like gmax or milk shape?

  • try a program like blender which is free, this process is done by mirroring on the x axis, extruding, adding loops, scaling and rotating. All things that blender a free program at blender(dot)org does.

  • /watch?v=_NwctBQhzj0

  • or is it a vetex?

  • how can u make vertises i cant get it to get on the trial

  • right click over the objet then 'convert to editable poly'

watch my new tutorial about a head modelling.

  • WOW, that is amazingly better looking then my model of a human, yours looks like one, mine looks like freaking carboared box with holes, and this is only part 1, nice work.

  • and you dont see the things on the right verry clearly

  • hehe yeah, at that moment i didn't know how to use the zoom tool in camtasia.I'll do a new one probably to fix somethings.

  • ok that music is kinda scary... gud vid thanx

  • the music is shit but the tutorial is verry good

  • kkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • you need to add voice man because the first 30 seconds are rediculus and I follow the exact steps you make and get a different result.
