Doctor Who Metal Who 2010 title sequence v2

I know you've done several other versions since this one, but how did you create the vortex? I'm a 3DMax user and I've never been able to create a decent looking cloud effect quite like the one you have. To me it looks like you've taken a Noise or Gradient slot (with noise activated) with one in the Bump map slot, with a ripple/wave modifier attached to the cylinder, but I can't be sure. :P

@PJM25595 this one was simple - very simple. I took a spline, fattened it out to make it a "tube" bent it where ever I wanted it to go, and applied a SMOKE texture to the tube, and put it on the bump map as well, as an instance of the diffuse, and then animated the "Phase" and got this effect. Nothing special there. I Illuminated the interior with lights (this was REALLY early work hahah)

@ManservantPablo Wow, that's amazingly simple yet looks good. If you don't mind, I may take up this idea and do some experiments, see if it furthered :) If you don't mind my asking, how did you go about the lightning strikes? I really haven't been able to do a good one of them. xD

@PJM25595 Go for it bud. I still think this method is the most cost effective in regards to render times. I have a MUCH better looking one using this method, which will be seen in the new Doctor Stew.

Lightning strikes (these were my first attempt ever) but I did them in AFTER EFFECTS. I never really learned how to do them in MAX.

this is good but i have a few suggestions, just use the actors names (though i suppose this makes this timeless) and though the correct font it seems to short and wide, but the vortex is great :)

The only improvement could be making the time vortex faster, it was a bit slow. But apart from that it was very good :D

@craog123 yes you can mate, I think anyone can do this 3d stuff. Its getting simpler and simpler to just become an artist with these programs... you should pick up some beginner tutorials for 3ds max, and walk through em and see if you like it. You never know what you are capable of until you try!

P.S - How did u make this title sequence and how did u make it 720HD and 1080HD

@Ashleybradbury I rendered the entire sequence in 1080p... youtube handled the 720 and lower qualities by itself. I used 3ds max, Adobe after effects and Adobe Premier.

@Ashleybradbury yeah I could show you quickly how I do it. By all means I am no professional, I only picked these programs up about 10 months ago, but I will do something to quickly help you out :)

What kind of cartoon series are you making? Or rather what program to do the animation? Do you have any samples?

@ManservantPablo well its not really an animation, if i did do that, It be great, But what I'm doing is a type of digital graphic novel (comic) series of Doctor Who

Just draw the pages, scan them in, get someone to re-draw my pictures (im a good artist but not excellent as in people who are pros) and then once there sent to me, I put them in movie maker with the title sequence and ending sequence - hey peresto

@Ashleybradbury Ahh so it will be drawn stills with slight animation and good sound. Got it. There is a great program I will reccomend for you if you want to make it look fantastic and you want to bypass someone else doing it. Its called Toon Boom Studio - you can pull off fantastic results for a cheap price - or you can get the trial, and check it out. It is a a really good program for just what you are doing!
