  • Great tractors great forager overall great video:)

  • To MrJohndeeredave

Thanks again, Dave. You forgot to say "Great guys" but they were . . .

  • Well I kind of did but the front axle shaft cracked in our Mc Cormick and the axle fell so we couldn't use that tractor and there was nothing else there. Also my father(RIP) was the first agricultural contractor in Munster and up to the early 1990's he was the biggest. Then others starting coming in to the business and we started to get smaller.

  • Great video. Your comments are dead right about driving 20 years ago with tractors. I can remember I drew silage with a 20ft Broughan trailer on a John Deere 2650. It was a bit dodgy alright though.

  • To brownecontractor

Thank you, Sir. But you did it! We had to - to admit you got stuck was the pits!

  • Alan - you've got it summed nicely!! Nothing like the old fashioned "air conditioning" and a small(or no) cab to protect you. Nothing like splitting the brakes on a Ford 46 traveling at speed to swing her out of the way quick enough to avoid another tractor on a narrow lane.... Even still that memory brings shivers to me spine.....

You've reminded me of an ancient Perkins Nuffield I used to drive which lethal on the road. It would do 25mph but only had a brake on the left wheel!!

  • Nice video thanks for posting alan

Yes, the sun was getting low before they even started, having done the previous farm before they came.

  • I love the maize vids, and you've definitely had the best of them here Alan! Excellent work as usual.... What would those lads do if they were sent back 20 years ago to cope with countryside driving without the aid of mobiles or 2-way radios..... Take a chance that you might meet at the narrowest point on the road or that you might get to the yard with no stops at all....

  • To PhluterGoode

If those lads were taken back 20 years they'd be on a rapid learning curve, for a start. Keeping warm without a cab, keeping your sandwiches when there's nowhere to put them, driving in boggy conditions with only a diff. lock and no 4wd. Narrow lanes? Take your chance and hope it's clear!

  • @PhluterGoode we do somtimes have tractors with the cb's not working or not good range , so then we make a system where you wait a certain points for the tractor coming the other way and carry on to the next pulling and so on :)

  • To bridgehou

Thanks Richard - I remember now, you were on that system at the farm (I shall not name it) where both foragers were out, and another contractor as well. Presumably thee was no signal there in the valley?

  • @balmesh ahh yes the farm with the new kit :) ye we did have a little bit of problems with them but no reversing luckily as we knew were to stop :)

  • Fantastic vid Alan, looks to be a good crop to, I got a lot of vids of urs I catch up on ;)

  • To jordankeeps

Thanks Jordan. It wasn't high but was all there.

  • To Mad4Tractors
