Every Time You practise you do it, it warms up the instrument, and your body warms up as well, jut like when an athlete warms up before he/she exercises. The Longer you do long tones, the better, obviously you have to subdivide the time available. What you must remember is that that is what's going to give you a good sound for people to want to listen to you. Yes you do crescendo and diminuendo as well. There is a very good book by Eddie harris called the Intervallistic concept
Don't "LEAN" When practising, your playing wil be sloppy, i know the Tenor is heavy, so get a body strap which takes the weight off your neck, that way you can blow all day.
@skatersaxman Hey thanks for the tip. I did get a body strap...yeah it works so much better. Thanks for the encourgement. I am going to post some videos later, so please feel free to add any comments every little bit helps.
@skatersaxman Now when you say long tones do you do crescendo decrescendo, long stained notes? How do you do your long tones? How much time do you spending working on long tones every practice session?
I've just checked out some of your clips and you are definitely making strides. Coincidentally, it looks like we are doing the same thing by developing our musical skills on the Tenor as 'late bloomers' though I really don't believe it's too late. Keep up the good work and check me out when you get a chance.
Hey thanks for the comment s. I do like play by sight...I like that tune. I like improvising, but I have only been playing for year and they was just on the spur of the moment...Thanks again for commenting..
Now tell me that you were'nt getting into this one more than your C blues vid!! Maybe more dud notes here but a much more enjoyable performance to listen to. Some definite swing in this one. :-)
