About half way through the video I realized the little blonde dude wasn't there anymore. Why was he suddenly not in the video till like, the very end?!
love this song , the lyics are going to give me a lot of racehorse names ........ nothing left to say ....... little left to do........ all classics for the track
When I first heard this song I didn't pay attention to the lyrics. (I was just here for the sound, Go figure - I was probably still into Nirvana then) Now I can say, This asks the question what kind of a person someone is regardless of religion. This is right up there with XTC's "This World Over" In which the world is a wasteland, All for what.
Lets us all rejoice in the church that supports big record labels and sticks it to small independents likes Missing Link, Au Go Go et al as the bald one from Countdown was too busy counting the cheques from the labels he supported + his business in the 1980s which was putting Video Machines into pubs playing the same old crap he pushed on OUR PUBLIC BROADCASTER? The ABC should have asked for the salary back, and the public should know how much money that corrupt prick earned?
The Great Australian Songbook remains untold, even to this day... only a few passages have gotten some kind of national recognition, whilst others remain obscure passages. I hope these channels bring about some sort of awareness.
As with all decent clips on Countdown, played once and left to gather dust. The Riptides as with many great Australian bands were very talented, articulate and not bogans.Only knucklehead bands such as Cold Chisel, The Radiators and the rest of that drivel were given air time on Countdown and prime time tv. Thank god for cable!

I don't know if anyone answered, but he was the singer for Gangajang, after the Riptides concluded. His name is Cal Callahan.

One of the best least known songs of its time. One for the soul.

@greenaissance Always loved Mark's referencing Robert Mitchum's preacher psychopath in Night of the Hunter. Brilliant film.

He would what? Please give him an answer, coz I'm also quite interested to know what you mean by that remark.
nzoz1982 2 years ago
@cbappa1 What is "you would" suppose to mean? You don't even know the person!
And to midnonhenne, INXS is not "shit".

@martaTFF
Countdown's playlists tended dominate the charts.
I have heard that if Molly Meldrum liked a band he promoted them like crazy on Countdown; if not he tended to deliberately ignore them.
Personal whim rather talent seem to decide!
