The higher your caste, the better the chances you have at education, jobs, enjoying higher standards of living. It's a vicious cycle. The Dalits, which is actually outside of the caste system ( meaning that they are lower than the lowest castes Hindu ) are often denied education, discriminated against for healthcare etc. So they remain poor and trapped in their situation.

These status are determined by birth. So you can be a Dalit millionaire but you would be still be untouchable, be a dalit. But if you're a Brahmin but dirt poor, you're still high-caste, still honourable.

Yes, Hinduism has it's negatives - the main one being the caste system which, as i understand it, wasn't 'formed' to be used in such a divisive way. But what religion IS faultless? None in my view.
