  • wrong keys in the left hand..

  • I love this song and I'm learning to play it as well.

    '

  • Sort of pretty good, but not entirely.

  • @vandykgreene "Sort of pretty good, but not entirely" Connection. you need to make the connection: think of emotional, sad, HARSH and regretful SENSATIONS you DESIRE... then make the connection.

  • I'm proud to be Polish

  • if i am ever in a big house that has a piano in a big room that is accessed by a long corridor, i shall play this by myself. creepy = yes, happy = maybe, but it makes me happy god dammit

  • great version, of course. in my opinion it's too fast

  • I was there to see Chopin start out. So fantastic to see him come this far! Hope he tours with his next album.

  • @AngusTheWolf

    derp

  • This is one "hurried" video. =p

  • So beautiful!!!!!

  • The trills are difficult for me to do at times :( ...I'm only a 2nd grader.. but Chopin is a GENIUS and my inspiration!! -.- =D

  • Very good

  • I love playing this masterpiece

  • Anybody know where you can get teh PDF for the sheet music?

  • Thumbs up if you watching it since 1830.

  • I can play this but i am listening to someone else playing it.

    WHY???

  • @TRoSaundersHomestead because they are probably better pianists than you. get real.

  • i can aaaalmost play this...

  • oh yeah a video that doesnt kill the last note :) amazing

  • This video went viral on Bratislava

  • listening to this in 2012 happy new years

  • before i die i need to learn how to play this song. its so beautiful

  • i think i just jizzed in my pants

  • i have chills and im crying

  • This... makes me sad. But I fucking love it.

  • wow..ce versuri!

  • i traveled back in time to listen to it in 2001

  • Soooooo I was watching Karate Kid, and then I went to just print out a Nocturne to learn (as my teacher suggested) and this is the one I chose. I go to listen to it on youtube, and it turns out... this was the solo the girl was playing on the violin. Coincidence? I think not.

  • This is the exact same version as in the movie the pianist..

    Who is playing it ?

  • oow

  • To the Shadow Temple!

  • Its like dreaming, its so sad..When I'm playing this I'm somewhere else, like I feel the pain from the movie the pianist....

  • Fun fact: a Jewish woman who was captured during the Holocaust was brought in on the camp coordinator's birthday. He had heard she played piano so he demanded she play him something. This was the song she chose. He liked it so much he spared her life as well as her sister's and both lived until the war ended. In short, this song saved two people's lives. :)

  • @mallyflower Sisters? No, It was a man name Wladyslaw Szpilman who wrote a memior about how he was caught in an abandon house when an officer came in. Then szpilman played this song & it saved his life..

  • @Anniefreshness I never said my story was the only one...way to jump the gun. I never said the sisters wrote this song either. One of them just played it and she did it so well it saved her life. She asked that her sister's life be spared as well and it was. Jesus. Don't have to be such a know-it-all.

  • @Anniefreshness i dont think he played this song in the film tho, when the officer found him

  • @mallyflower this is how I got to this piece actually, I've just read the article on BBC news :) If only I get a lot better at piano I would love to learn this :)

  • @mallyflower That we know of! I imagine this song has impacted many lives.

  • @mallyflower Never knew NAZIS liked music

  • @mallyflower Fun fact: Chopin refused to perform before an audience if it included a Jew.

  • @mallyflower what a lovely storu :D thank you for sharing that, it made me so much prouder knowing i can play this nocturne

    :)

  • @mallyflower same thing happened to Szpilman. The music saves life.

  • I'm playing this song rite now <333 It's hard 2 get the hands to coordinate at like, 0:42, but I'm still trying, this is such a beautiful song! :D

  • this is one of his best tunes can't stop listen to it again and again

  • 3:06 <3

  • Le pianiste... <3

  • Not a big fan of this interpratation. Nevertheless, I too appreciate the emotion Olejniczak put it.

But on the whole, I think we are much to critical of the child prodigy who can belt out note for note with precision. One must learn somewhere and at sometime. And that child will grow and one day have the emotional fortitude to play this piece with the passion it deserves. Imagine the unique insight one might have to have played this for life, yet reinterpreting it as life unfolds.

  • thumbs up if it took you a while and you were like " hey its from karate kid!" :D

  • SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL

  • A composer with a beautiful soul. No mic; no ballcap on backwards; pants not pulled down past the crack; no bling-bling on the maxillary incisors; no tattoos; no SUV with 22' rims. Chopin would probably be relegated to that U-Tube universe of artists whose work will go, by and large, undiscovered and unappreciated. Yo-yo, waz up?

  • i think i heard this somewhere... i just dont know where....i think its a movie or something..

  • @noeleverblue im thinking its from fantasia. i might be wrong.

  • @noeleverblue it's in the movie "The Pianist" starring Adrian Brody. Very good movie.

  • @RaelDael that's right! omg thanks

  • @noeleverblue you're welcome.

  • Two people are deaf.

  • One of the few songs that I can listen to, regardless of my mood.

  • it makes me cry when i hear this beautiful opus..

  • love this song

  • "It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Chopin symphony as a variation of wave pressure." -- Albert Einstein

  • i think im deffs taking this for grade 9 rather then Chopins Waltz .

  • May I ask a stupid question of other pianists watching this video? I'm currently trying to learn this piece - on my own - from my Conservatory grade 9 book: can you tell me if it is supposed to be played con pedale?

    Thanks!

And, needless to say, this song is gorgeous.

  • @CCNuck yup it is

  • i luuuuuuuuuuuuv songs in the minor key

  • @narniafreak129 Yeah, there's just something, I don't know, magical and myterious, about the minor key. What sounds incredible as well, for improvisation, is to play 'lead' in the relative minor to a major chord progression.

  • @narniafreak129 Me too. They're best!

  • @narniafreak129 There's so many pop songs in C#Minor, its like the most overused scale but it works every time.

  • @narniafreak129 ikr? so gloomy but bright sounding! this was an awesome soundtrack too for the WWII movie the pianist. heard of it?

  • @narniafreak129 it's not a song

  • this is art, music and f love

  • Lolwei are we talking about Kanye West?

  • people that are on jerk off kanye wests' nuts are jerk offs themselves and should all be lined up n shot in the face.. thats just my opinion.. get rid of the disease that is brainwashing this world into nothingness

  • thumbs up if you're still watching this in 2011...

  • Comment removed

  • @JustMrSuperman i'm watching it in 2003

  • @bobsters34 I'm watching this in 2011!!

  • @bobsters34 You too?

  • @bobsters34 i'm watching it in 2012

  • @JustMrSuperman Oh my god are you serious with the thumbs up stuff? Come on.. go post those comments somewhere else. It has nohing to do with this video. So I'm afraid I have to mark your comment as spam.

  • @Matthijs3476 this was humour... i was making fun of the people who actually post this kind of comment, it's called sarcasm. ( sorry for my bad english, i'm french )

  • Aye, Chopin. Your eloquently-placed trills make my heart flutter with emotion and your piece has a drive and conveys emotion unmatched by none other than those of your era, the past. You manage to paint a picture with music... What a breath-taking piece.

  • Puts chopin e o cara !

  • I love the part at 1:17, it is my favorite part to play. it portrays dimensions of both cheerfulness and austerity.

  • beautiful.... :')

  • Every Classical video I go to, some moron brings up Justin Bieber, or Eminem, or Kanye West.

I'm not even going to say, "Just listen to the music." It never works.

  • does anyone suppose, even for a moment, that in a couple hundred years, rap/hip-hop will be studied at conservatories? I trow not. Yo-yo, man, like 'dis Chopin, he gots it goin' on, know wa I be sayin', yo?

  • the 2 people that disliked this composure are purely inferior musically.

  • @bsd300d Bit harsh...and yet my evil self agrees somewhat. *sheepish cough*

  • Dino Rota - OJOS

  • Liszt + Rachmaninoff + Chopin = Win

  • @UnScriptedFlix Agreed!!!!!!

  • proof that beautiful music never dies i think that all that need be said here ^_^

  • Thank you Europe for this beautiful piece.

Here in japan we only have shit , why my country suck...

  • 很棒的曲子

  • This is such a wonderful piece

  • Bellisimo, simplemente bellisimo

  • dos personas escuchan reggeton hahaha

  • how come every version i hear never satisfies me enough? i find myself always looking for another because perhaps that different shade may open a whole new world. great performance!

  • Can somebody watch if my song I composed is good. :P

I want to be as good as Chopin later in my life. =)

  • i hate it wen u get those virtuoso children who think they can play Chopin. sure they can play the notes but the emotion that is needed for chopin isnt something that can learned. this pianist is playing from the heart and its beautiful :)

  • @musicallytalented2 where are your talents for us to view? sounds like your just repeating a cliche to sound opinionated. no offense to you specifically cause people do this all the time... but seriously why do you care enough to post about it?

  • @amxmachine hey im sorry i didnt mean to try and sound snobby or anything. im a 3rd year music student at university and so i know bout these sort of things and i do kinda care enough to say it since its a music career that i intend to pursue and it comes with alot of criticisms. again, sorry.

  • @musicallytalented2 Doesnt matter about where u go to school or what u go there for, ur original statement is 100% correct, it NEEDS the emotion and i dont think that was a pretentious statement at all its absolutely true

  • Splendido.

  • @Blostma How does something sound like raindrops?

  • ALL CAPS RAGE

  • I love this interpretation-- the scales played by the right hand sound like raindrops. How can anyone dislike this?

  • this is beautiful

  • Is wrong if this gave me a boner?

  • @arturmet depends on if you are a boy or a girl.

  • @meesbroersen If he was a girl he wouldn't get a boner...

  • @arturmet absolutely not.

  • @arturmet No, silly, you only find classical music exciting that is all :D.

  • @arturmet no dude, thats totally norm... oh shit i just came on my keyboard.

  • @arturmet Wow, you're too funny!

  • @arturmet play it right for a woman and it will give her an orgasim

  • Chopin is magic

  • how exactly did a kanye west fan wander onto this vid?

  • by what artist is the best rendition of this track is? I have a cd of the nocturnes by moravec but sadly this track isnt on there (and its probably my favorite). who would be the next best? barenboim?

  • so many ignorants on this page

  • The truth is that there is a difference between constructive musical art that causes one to muse, and organized noise we call "modern music" generated towards popularity and therefore the almighty dollar... Yes, art is being made today, but due to our society of Must-Be-Entertained's, we are losing our artistic abilities... We are setting ourselves up for another Dark Age...

  • @HerrStutterNuts Do you think another era will be made for the complex and forever fresh music like bach and chopin or vivaldi?

  • Damn people, go explore other genres of music. I'm not trying to sound "sophisticated", but I honestly just listened to a song by an artist called SKRILLEX, called scary monsters and nice sprites, and the song before that was I'm on a Boat by The Lonely Island! I like the noises being played through my headphones, so I listen to it. Some people like Kanye West's music, so they listen to it.

  • Saying, "I like keyne west and Chopin" is the equivelant of announcing, "I really have no idea what good music is; I just want people to think I do." KW is a hideous musical hack wanna be artisian assclown who will have no place in the history of music- unlike Chopin.

  • Why the FUCK would anyone even PUT Twit West on the same page as a genius musician? WTF IS THE MATTER WITH YOU PEOPLE?!

  • Amazing!!!!

  • I don't understand the two person who dislike this music... this is amazing

  • Absolutely stunning, truly beautiful.

  • Kanye West likes fish sticks

  • Soulja boy is a real musician. Holy shit I just trolled this so fucking hard. Come at me.

  • @igotwoodhaha soulja boy hahaha, I give you credits for the funny joke

  • beautiful :)

  • My favorite piece from my favorite composer. Thank you so much for posting this.

  • I love this! First heard it in "The Pianist"

  • This is absolutely beautiful

  • Screw D minor, this is the darkest key in music!

  • @alreadytakenthe3rd except music in no key.... dissonant stuff, I mean :D

  • @ShadyNightCrow Right, but do you agree with me that people often cite D minor as the darkest key in tonal music?

  • @alreadytakenthe3rd Idk. I'm NOT a music theorist XD I'm kind of new to classical music, and although I love it I'm not a musical genious :P

  • @ShadyNightCrow Well, without knowing much about music theory, people seem to listen to Toccata and Fugue in D minor say it's an example of the darkest minor key.

  • @alreadytakenthe3rd Hmm, that's true :D Is it wierd that I really like that song? xD I guess it kindof depends on the types of harmonies and chords in the song that makes it sound dark.... maybe it just depends.

  • @ShadyNightCrow Not weird at all; Toccata is an excellent work.

  • @alreadytakenthe3rd Good. I felt really creepy when I said that XD

  • I love this song!!!!!!

  • i'm a fan of metal music and i love masterpieces like this. The Gods' music ...

  • Sounds like a dissonance at 2:50 (the left hand-part)?

  • I love lady gaga and kanye west. LOVE. But i love chopin too. So, lets not diss on any.. what say?

  • Im just learning this. The sheet music I have, has an F# as the bottom note, at 0.32 second. This version plays a D#.

    Which is correct?

  • @mattcol99 The F# is correct.

  • @mattcol99 The original Chopin manuscript had a D#.

  • @WHOAAx2 Really?

  • @Matthijs3476 uhm I have no idea who commented on this on my account. probably me brother...so i can't really help you. sorry.

  • @xTALeNteDxmEx

Get the music off of imslp.org

    Fabulous website

  • @Dalemark7 That is an amazing website. I get everything off of there now a days lol.

  • Get the music off of imslp.org

  • i love this song soo much! its so beautiful, it just puts my soul at peace :).

  • Thumbs up if Wladyslaw Szpilman sent you here! ^__^

  • they use this in my ballet classes, im in love with it.

  • Wow!! I love this piece of music, it has to be one of my favourites! It's just great!
