cnt take anything away from rocky. its a shame he never faught Ali. rocky, even though he was a flat footed fighter, he still got the job done. RIP sir.
To say that Marciano was a crude fighter technically is not really an insult or criticism. Everyone knows this. What made Marciano so good was incredible conditioning and heart. He was a classic pressure fighter grinding his opponent down over 15 rounds. He only started boxing at the age of 25 so he had to work with his natural talents a lot.
Good rabbit punch Marciano caught him with towards the end. I expect he would have won anyway without fouling him but Marciano was one rough dirty fighter. I also reckon he was a bit over rated. He seemed like a very nice guy though.
marciano obviously was not technically good, but he used to attack for all the match, he punched hard and he had a stone body, so was a terrible opponent. He never lost, 49 matches, 49 wins, most of them by ko.
I wonder who could probably beat him. A Technical Ali? I don't think so. Maybe a puncher like Foreman or Joe Louis at his peak. A fighter had once said, fighting with him is like boxing against an airplane propeller. In stamina nobody could match him. Just a puncher might finish him in early rounds.
Oh yeah, Marciano is outdated technically- about as outdated technically as Rembrandt, Da vinci and Michelangelo are outdated. Oh, I forgot- Mozart, he's outdated technically today too- don't you think?
technic has nothing to do with age, some things are today better and some things have been better before my good friend! But one thing is for sure, the earlier boxers were much more harder than todays, one of the reasons is the boxing gloves were much more thinner than todays.U can`t say "these and that is not up-to-date", that is wishful thinking. Look on the heavyweight fight between FRAZIER and FOREMAN in the 70`s
They do make 'em like him nowadays, only you never see them on television because they loose all the time. He was good then, but outdated technically now.
Marciano was too Slow? if he was it obviously didn't matter when you think he was a Great World Champion and never lost, no disrespect intented but it is a dumb comment
you can't say that. Today's boxers also give everything they got and risk to get badly hurt everytime they fight. The sport changed, not the fighters.
