@coolpizzacook you seem to be under the impression that I don't know how to use the hunting rifle. It shouldn't be a tier 2 weapon; it's a tier 1. If the choice comes down to auto shotgun, assault rifle, or hunting rifle, anyone looking for the best of them would grab the auto shotgun. The hunting rifle is simply not a weapon suited for this game's pace.

@coolpizzacook when do you EVER need to shoot something long-range? All the infected are melee, except the smoker, and you can insta-clear the tongue in 1 shot from 20 feet away with an autoshotgun. If you ever NEED a hunting rifle to do something, then you're playing wrong (it does make the BH5 tank fights easier, though). It's just fact.

@coolpizzacook That's because it's too easy and gets boring lol. In pub games I don't even grab t2 weapons, I just run a pump shotgun the whole time. The hunting rifle is tremendously underpowered compared to the other tier 2 weapons, and just is not a good pick 90% of the time. It's barely even worth being in the game it's so inaccurate on the move.

First of all pump shotgun takes some skill unlike the autoshotgun a.k.a. noobcannon which you can just spam and also melee delay on the pump shotgun makes it harder to work with. Yeah, except you only get to do that 15 times, semi-auto. If you get in a group, you're fucked. If you need to kill something mid to close range, you're fucked. If you get the chance to shoot something from 300 yards away, then you have a case. But good luck having the enemy stand in the open without coming for you.

Something else nice about the hunting rifle, I believe it ignores the infected's damage resistance that they gain on advanced and expert. From other weapons, body shots do 50% of the damage on expert (75% on advanced).

I tried the hunting rifle today, HOLY SHIT IT'S AWESOME! My kills in coop went from an average of about 120 a map to maybe 180, and it's so much easer to help teammates because it can shoot through walls. It kicks ass at taking out every special infected besides the tank. Absolutely insane during the hordes.

true story: was playing blood harvest online on the 4 chapter and we got to the part with the train tracks and someone decides to just run off to that little house just b4 the big one. he gets hit by a hunter and while every is running to him i pull out the hunting rifle and aim for the outline (bunch of trees in the way so i couldnt even see the house) killed hunter in one shot. when i get to the house i shot through the ENTIRE house and hit the hunter in the head outside. it was awesome lol

Used to think rifle was lame & loved the auto shotty. Only use the rifle now. It saves teammates in trouble from far & close & annihilates bosses & hordes. No shooting teammates by accident. People need to learn to use the rifle properly before dissin it. Can't go around unloading like crazy with it. Well placed shots deals some serious damage & really helps your team. Always get some nubs makin fun of me for taking the rifle then I end up having to save their asses with it many times over.

hunting rifle is definitely the best weapon to have...it has the most damage of any gun w/ 1 shot (obviously), has more shots per reload than the autoshotty...and has less reload time (although it doesn't shoot as fast as the autoshotty), plus it can scope and can shoot through multiple zombies at once. it's only downside is that it's almost unusable while moving because your accuracy goes waaaaaaaay down...and the tank dies much faster when someone in the group has the rifle

Shotgun at close range does more damage, but that's only close range. Auto shotgun has a safer reload (can shoot during reload), and you can shorten the reload if you never let your shells reach 0, otherwise you cock it. Shotgun has infinite penetration like the rifle, but the spread cancels eventually.

Still love the rifle, though.

Hunting rifle is awesome! I use it for everything and usually get more kill than the rest of my friend with it. I dont know why people call it a hunk of shit but it has great penetration so its really good at those narrow corridors because of how many zombies a bullet can go through and taking out far away zombies before you reach them.

yes you can look into the scope, The hunting rifle is awesome for Taking out special infected (especially long distance Smoker kills), Stair duty on finales, and great for defending Boomer victims. But sucks against the Tank and Witch, also you cannot move while shooting the Hunting Rifle because you will miss even at point blank lol. Overall, I love the hunting rifle. Especially for No Mercy and Dead Air where there's a lot of choke points.
