Cool video, I'm sure gonna start taking care of my knives better. I didn't think anyone thought stainless steel couldn't ever rust. Don't know much about knives myself, but it's basic chemistry.
Stainless steel does NOT rust. Look it up. I've gotten my knife wet plenty of times and left out and does not rust. However, this is something you wouldn't do with a carbon steel blade.
@adfgfds Stainless CAN rust. When you looked it up did you by chance read there are several different GRADES of stainless? Some will rust, some RESIST rust, but all of it can build up rust over time. You may have gotten you knife wet a hundred times, and it looks fine. Leave it in water for a year, come back to it. It will be showing signs of rust. Trust me, I know I SELL stainless products. Don't always believe one website. It's only as right as the person typing it in...
I guess i should have been more clear with that. When I speak of Stainless, I'm talking about the standard 440c Stainless Steel. No problems with that. I have no idea with the others.
You are the knife king, I learned more from watching all your videos then anyone else. You have an excellent manor of explaining the tools and process. I have a Gerber LMF II 1629 can i send my knife to you to sharpen? Let me know. great video Thanks

you are thinking of ceramic magnets or neodymium, magnetic strips are soft and cannot scratch steel I have magnetic strips and if you want you can tear them using only your hands
Hot water cant damage any knife temper I've heard of. 212 degrees F max. Knife tempering temps start at 275 and go up to nearly 1000 degrees F, depending on steel type.
Also a tip that I have picked up, is after strappin it with leather (I use my belt alot of times) it also further refines the blade to run it along the top of a window (preferably something like a car window that has a rounded edge).
Oh and also, tempered glass like in car windows is actually harder than ceramic stones, that is why people (like Ray) use it AFTER they use a ceramic stone to further polish the blade...
Yea, dont try to be a smart ass dude, you obviously dont know what you are talking about.
For one, you use a ceramic stone BEFORE you strap it on leather.... For two, you dont know what you are talking about, you are just trying to look smart and came out looking like a dumb ass.

well i presented a simple statement and you have created a major debate rudely worded, so therefor you can wallow in your own filth, i will have no further comments for you, even at first you gave the illusion of having a brain. AND RAY MEARS SUCKS....so you can still be a legond in your own mind.....
Ray Mears sucks huh? Even though anyone with a brain knows he is like the best bushcraft and survival instructor in the world? You know who taught the SAS what they know? Ray...
Yea you can think he sucks, but anyone who knows anything about survival knows that he really does know what he is talking about, and you obviously dont.
@residentevil926 Then they're probably unnecessarily sharp. I make mine sharp enough to shave with :D
peepeevagi 3 months ago
@peepeevagi No,just sharp enough that it will cut good and is ground well. And mine shave.

DON'T USE OLIVE OIL!!! USE MINERAL OIL!
kissfn101 6 months ago
I just sharpen my knives with that crap knife sharpener in the kitchen drawer whenever it gets dull :/
Forget preserving sharpness whenever you can just swipe it five or six times and have it razor-ass sharp again.

It isn't stainless then. Mine don't rust on me and I've left them outside many times while it rained.

If it's a steel...it will rust, period. It definitely takes longer and is more resistant to rusting but it will rust...

magnetic strips scratch the hell out of the blade, and the magnet is WAY too powerful, makeing it hard to pull off.

most people invest in a ceramic stone for this, not the car window........

yes you can use ceramic, but to all the smart asses out there, Ray Mears uses a car window.... So, do you know more than him?
