Great! I have trouble keeping the cylinder open on the left hand reloads.... It always wants to partially close when the revolver is inverted, making it impossible to feed it quickly. Any advice there?
@stradawhovious Howdy, I try to cant the revolver slightly to the left during the reload. It helps to keep the cylinder open and also gives the spent moon clip less chance of bouncing back off my thumb or the grip and catching on the extractor.
I prefer the weak hand reload. Less chance of a DQ due to muzzle breaking the 180 and keeping a firm grip on the firearm is just more comfortable to me. It's good to practice both, some stages kinda lend themselves to one or the other.
Some people call this method left hand because that's the one handling the reload. The traditional method (one of my other videos) is to switch the revolver to the left hand and reload with the right hand.
Thanks, that's a Smith and Wesson 625 using generic moon clips. I use Hearthco clips in major matches. The 625 comes from the factory moon clip ready, but chamfering the star and chambers lets them drop in easier.
Thanks for the reply so fast. I use a classic Smith 28 with HKS speedloaders, not very fast on the reload (about 3.5 seconds tops, 5 seconds average nowadays), I'm always looking for something to try a bit faster.
Hey C S Sstravag! If you are looking to try to speed up,you might try the Safariland speedloader-it's just a push button.I'm pretty sure you have to turn the button on an HKS-is that right?
I have'nt gotten into moonclips yet-but I will someday!
Sometimes I push it out with my right index finger, but wrapping my left fingers around is more fail safe and I don't think it slows me down too much.
Thanks. Yes, severely chamfered. Enough to make most gunsmiths and collectors cringe. The edges of the chamfer meet in the middle of the extractor star arms. Not recomended by anybody with good sense. Of course revolver racers are seen by many as making poor choices when it comes to equipment. Seriously though deep chamfering and Auto Rim cartridges do not mix, ACP and moonclips only. Glad you like the post.
Thanks. Yup. Never used .45 AR cartridges in mine. When I bought my 625 back in 1989, I figured I would be using it with .45 ACP and full moon clips 100% of the time. Thanks again.
Right thumb on cylinder release, left fingers push cylinder as you pull back.Roll gun left and muzzle up,push ejector rod with palm as you go down.Roll muzzle down as you move both hands to the new load.Pull up toward your face, keep your eyes on the cylinder and load as it goes in.Flatten left hand against the side of the cylinder to close, roll muzzle up and left fingers down the re-grip.Now gun should be chest high and ready to push out as if just drawn.I hope this helps-Bill A58911
I second that, if you could break it down that would be nice. I just bought my first pistol. S&W 686p. Looks like that might be what you are holding? Oh. Great job by the way, really fast.
Thanks for asking.I've trouble with the reply function, but lets try again. The gun is a S&W 625 in 45 ACP,rounds are held by a moonclip which drops in and out as a unit.
Smooth relaods....could you break in down in steps? I'm still trying to figure out how you punch the cylinder out and push rod so fast. I still reload the old fashion way w/ speedloader in strong hand.
I think being left handed is a advantage

This is the fastest revolver reload I have seen!

Is that a Ruger GP -100? In steel matches you can not break the 180 degree rule. He is pretty close.
Mr2wings 1 year ago
It's a Smith & Wesson 625. You can not break the 180 in USPSA either. There is no penalty for getting close.

If you don't mind me asking, what reload do you prefer: the weak hand or the strong hand reload?

Fastest revolver reload I've ever seen. I guess moon clips make it easier though.

It really sucks that there isn't a way to reload a revolver without pointing it away from the target.

He's holding the gun in his right hand. He's smooth and fast, but not left handed.
Am I missing something?

Very nice. What combination of revolver and moon clips are you using? And do you have to modify the extractor star to use the moon clips?

Long barrel w/ moon clips! The ejector rod pushes the brass&clip as a whole completely out of the cylinder.
Moon clips all the way!!!
