The mask is for measuring his VO 2 max. Which standards for volume of oxygen that can be consumed at maximum exertion. There is also sub max tests that can be done also. I believe masato had a vo2 max of over 70 which is phenominal. I train in kickboxing everyday, and i think of myself as being reletively fit, however i only had a v02 max of 55.
The mask measures the amount of O2 inhaled and the amount of O2 exhaled.
When he's working at 100% effort the maximum possible amount of O2 that can be used by his body is used. The maximum difference between the amount that is inhaled and the amount exhaled is calculated (to determine how much O2 was actually used).
The VO2 max is calculated by dividing the amount of O2 used by the amount of time in which it was used and then by the body-weight of the athlete.
im glad masato ditched his pretty boy image at the end of 06 and became a more serious fighter from 07 onwards. no more fancy hairstyles and plucked eyebrows.
I don't know what happened to Buakaw. In 04, he brought that Thai clinch to the game which just wrecked everyone, especially Masato. in 05, he got screwed, and 06 he upped his hand game and unexpectedly whipped ass after they changed the rules to make the clinch shorter. After that, it's like everyone else has been training much smarter, and Masato's boxing made him look a bit amateur.
Hopefully he gets back to it. Watching him get caught by Dida's wild swinging punches was painful. You can imagine how Masato would have picked Dida apart with his technical boxing.
buakaw, I think is a guy so confident of his skills he doesn't come to a fight with a game plan he just lets it flow naturaly, masato and sauwer they study there opponents weakness. Don't give up on buakaw yet ;) I feel he's gonna kick sato's ass if they get a chance to fight a again
Dekkers so far hasn't won any of his matches when he came over to Japan in both MMA and K-1. I'm not sure about his prime but definitely not in his current state. Didn't he retire already by the way?

Masato came back the better and stronger fighter. He learned his lesson, BPP didnt improve. He tried to out box MASATO who SHOULD have been a pro boxer, not a kickboxer. Rule change or not BPP fucked up and his camp fucked up.
