Great review as always. I too don't like the Parodius games all that much - just too fucking weird really. I love Japanese craziness but graphically they are garish at best, nausia-inducing rubbish at worst. The gameplay is plain average too.
I'm not a huge fan of the Gradius series either. The critically acclaimed V is great for the first couple of levels, then it gets all organic and weird itself, and then gets really annoying. The GBA Gradius is much better, but its no R-Type.
just got parodius portable,snes /ps1 ones are childhood memories,highly recomment rayman origin mattie(if i may call u that,*) one third of that game is oldskool sidescrolling handdrawn shmup stylie,mie likie very muchie,*)
