  • Joan, my dear, I'm afraid you were just a bit too proper on the song title. You added an extra g to goin', where there wasn't 1. Anyway, Gene hit #7 in Billboard, 1--19-85. God bless!

  • The "Singers Singer"! Thank you for the post.

  • What a total legend. Fantastic!! Thanks

  • Love every song he sings. It's time to get Gene into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Visit the official group site on facebook to join this group, 'Elect Gene Watson into the Country Music Hall of Fame'. Keep posting Gene's great music. Thanks!

  • I had the priviledge of interviewing Gene many years ago in a phone interview for a column I was writing for a publication. He is one of the all time true country professionals that continues to be on the top of the list of authentic, incredible true artists .. He runs a tie race with Merle Haggard..

  • would you happen to have his song

SOMTIMES I GET LUCKY AND FORGET?

    thats an awsome song also

  • Saw Gene last nite(Oct 16) in Lovelady Tx --awesome show --great band ! He's still got it !!!Truly enjoyable concert

  • Country boy can sing....

  • LIKE IT LOTS TKS FOR POSTING

  • this is a real golden oldie!!!!!!!!

  • Only one #1 hit, tough competition in those days, eh?

  • He should have at least 9 #1 songs probably more, great songs great singer!

  • We need to make sure we all let Gene know we are behind him 110% and he just keeps on singing.

I am a Houston native and he used to live just down the street from a cousin of ours..true he still keeps his auto shop and stills sings his heart out. They say the older the violin the sweeter the music...and this is definitely true of Gene.

  • Gene is still recording AND performing! I love this man and his voice!Gene had out a new album a couple years back and it's great. You all can probably find it at Ernest Tubb record store. They have a web site.We need to make sure THIS STYLE of music never dies!

  • This is one of my favorites of Gene's and he sounds fabulous as always. What a voice and his style is so unique. All of his songs sound as if they were written just for him. I love all the music accompaniment but the piano is my favorite on all of his recordings. Your posting Gene's background is really appreciated, along with the great pictures, and I am looking forward to seeing him when he comes back to Kentucky this summer. Can't wait. Thanks for posting another good one. - Paula

  • i have a cd of him and it says johnny russell wrote that song.

  • Thanks so much for this information. Johnny Russell wrote so many great songs in addition to being a great artist himself. - Paula

  • gene quit for some reason. i don,t remember the reason he quit.

  • Do you mean that Gene quit writing songs? I wasn't sure what you're referring to. - Paula

  • i should have explained it better, sorry. what i meant was he quit singing but don,t know why. johnny died but i think gene is still alive. i heard he was working on cars.

  • Well, I am a dyed in the wool Gene Watson fan so I have kept up with his career thru the years. He overcame cancer in the past, which held his career up for a short while, but he has been making appearances for quite some time and has put out two albums in the last 5 years. He comes to Renfro Valley here in Kentucky each year to entertain us and sounds wonderful - his voice has never changed. He's 64 I believe. He says he's kept his auto body business - just in case. :-) - Paula

  • i just wish the old music would come back. this rap junk i can,t understand it. i,am more into old country like gene, bluegrass and some folk music. i still have my albums. i have jean shepard when she was young and david houston. i go for the old music. you have a nice day and god bless you and yours.

  • Johnny Russell did a great version of the song as well. When he passed away it was a big (no pun intended) loss to country music

  • Ever since we met Johnny Russell in person here in Kentucky in 1976 I have been one of his greatest admirers. He had a terrific voice and was a lot of fun and so appreciative of his audience. There was a full house when he did the show I'm speaking of and he talked to the audience which made him even more endearing to everyone. - Paula

  • johnny russell was a great song writer as well as a singer.

  • What happened to THIS country music?

  • i love the music but nothing about gary genes home town paris texas where he was raised his entire family thats where he met mattie louise his wife. i know them all only celeb . i know (proud paris texas boy).

  • I try to get as much of his music written in the length of the song. Thanks for adding to the info that I didn't include.

  • Now this is a song you should do for us! I'm sure you will get rave reviews! Thanks again for your comments and stopping by!

  • Awesome song. Just bought his newest CD. That is a great CD, two thumbs up...

  • Gene has done many awesome songs....I don't think there is any I don't like. Thanks for listening!
