  • I would love to learn Bagua style. Closest thing in my small town is MMA but it's mostly for kids. This looks like a solid technique, but if he were really trying to kick you with a front kick I don't think you'd be fast enough to block like that. I'm certainly not trying to correct you as I have only minimal martial arts training, but I could imagine you grabbing his leg after his kick has landed and tumbling backward in the chair for a serious leg injury.

  • @calipygia No karate? karate would be better than MMA. or do both if possible. If he were really trying to kick me I would do something completely different. This vid is only for demonstration purposes. Kicks are actually incredible easy to block with even a little bit of training. In this vid I am only showing Hide Flower Under Leaf and Wild Goose leaves Flock. In reality I would probably do bear Palm to Lean on Horse to Ask Way or something ..

  • ok,thats sounds and looks pretty easy but what you do when the person has fighting skill and more strength, that technique only works on a weaker person

  • @615momo 1) It is about physics not strength. 2) Even if the person has 'fighting skill' a kick to the shin in the way I show it here will stop pretty much anyone. 3) Yes it does look easy because of how much time I have put into learning this style of Bagua and the spiralling methodology of Bagua. 4) My teacher's partner is a VERY petite Japanese lady who I have about 70lbs on. She has thrown me clear across a room using proper internal mechanics on several occasions. :))

  • @ksipa well i hope i didnt affend you cause believe me, i cant fight, and dont want to either but would love to know how too, know any good teachers in Nashville tn.

  • @615momo NO worries. Absolutely no offence takan at all. :)) I can look into the Nashville scene and let you know? Are you looking for Bagua specifically? or something else?? :))

  • @emeibaghuazhang If you observe the first movements displayed here from a wing chun perspective they are in fact the same. All wing chun movements although direct in the sense of being linear, move on a circular plane as dictated by the rotation of joints. Using a double jamm sau you "break the opponents spine" then roll them away. this is a gross or subtle movement depending on your skill/mood. The idea is the same when you approach both martial arts from a nei jing point of view.

  • @dharmabrat108 My current Chen Taiji instructor was a very skilled proponent of Wing Chun before he got into the martial arts and he has explained on various occasions how different Wing Chun is from the internal martial arts. So While I completely accept your analysis of my movements from the video I will disagree with you that I am doing the same thing as one would be doing in Wing Chun. :)

  • @ksipa lol just realized it should read my Chen Taiji instructor was a very skilled proponent of Wing Chun before he got in the INTERNAL martial arts :))

  • brillient bro, you know mate im always sa=ying the wrong things lol keep calling you Kispa, hope you forgive me, your interview is on its way, in fact its done! ;)

  • No worries about enjoying the martial arts man.

There is a pretty big difference betwen Wing Chun and Bagua. The main thing is the use of not 'curves' or 'circles' but of SPIRALING structural application and ... the sticking and following principles. as well as training the dascia so deliberately to develop heightened sensitivity skills. :)

  • Anyway, sorry to Blather, but I get excited when I find out something NEW!

I believe that Personal preference, Age, Demeanor, health, body type, regions and a plethora of other reasons are why there are so many different Martial Arts.

In the end, It is TRULY the Martial Artist and NOT the art that is the really important part.

    They are ALL great!!

And, I do enjoy learning everything I can about all of them!

(Sorry, Now that you think I am "Nutty", I will shut up!,..lol!)

  • The reason (Supposedly being) why Wing Chun does not use the hips so much is because it is more of a Southern Art and because it is used where footing may not be good, like on boats, you have no real "Root".

And I can tell you by experience that In Xingyiquan, if you are on a sand covered concrete or pavement and try to do some of the basic movements, it COULD lead to a groin injury, while if you were to evade by a Wing Chun movement, there would be No real danger of that.

  • @EmeiBaguazhang I disagree. With proper explanation of the use of the Kuas (hips/groin) muscles one can always avoid injury on loose footing. :)

  • Mind you I have been studying Wing Chun for around 6 years now and Bagua for around 2 years.

But when Bruce F. Said that one reason why Bagua is "better" is because Bagua uses the hips, and by taking Taijiquan, I can understand THAT concept now, but I still don't see a HUGE deal with any deficiencies in Wing Chun; because rather than using the hips so much, the Wing Chun man uses a subtle slide to the feet.

  • @EmeiBaguazhang

When I am applying the counter from the chair I am not 'just' using a circle to negate the punch or kick I am using SPIRALING movement to compound the strength of my movement and structure. BIG difference. YES you use the hips and the DAN Tien - engaging the diaphragms properly to heighten even further the structural integrity of a SPIRALING movement. ;) All together really really big bang for your buck. :)

  • I could not understand what Bruce Frantzis was saying in his book about why he believed Bagua to be far superior to Wing Chun.

In the case of you in the chair and using Bagua, you deflect with the scooping hand or spearing hand and "Circle" and turn out of the attack, while, all things being equal, in Wing Chun, a defender would Spear, draw back slightly and turn down at an angle.

The Bagua man uses a "curve" while a Wing Chun man uses two angles to form a more "triangle" shape.

  • @EmeiBaguazhang Because I am using spiraling energy I do not have to draw back at all to deflect/absorb/neutralize the punch or kick. Nor do I have to draw back to 'chamber' or gather my body to adjust and/or make a new move. It all flows. :)

  • EXCELLENT work!!!

This video did more for me in a few seconds than did months of research of the different Chinese Marital Arts!

The reason I can say this is because I was pondering the differences between Wing Chun and Bagua.

Although the differences may appear obvious, they are relatively minor in reality.

Wing Chun works on an angular deflection and Bagua works on a circular deflection.

It is pretty much the same outcome and the same motion but they have SLIGHTLY different subtle nuances.
