Thresher Shark at Malapascua Island, Phillippines, Cebu

I am a teacher in China, and for my vacation I really want to go to this island. I have heard lots of great things about this place. How was the diving? How exp do you have to be to go shark diving?

Thresher shark is the reason why ppl visit this island. It's a guranteed sighting if u go btwn Nov-Feb. I went in Oct. Not the best time but I got to see the shark. We paid lesser as it is not the peak season hence no guarantee.

Anyway there are more than shark on this island, macro life is beautiful too. If you like Mandarin fishes, then you wil not be disappointed with their night/evening dive. The mating of mandarin fishes are guaranteed! And several times a night. It's picture perfect for those who does underwater photography.

And to end off... you don't need to be very experience diving in Malapascua or Monad Shoul (site for the thresher shark). Current is pretty ok only at 5m mark... but all manageable. What you need to do is to keep your bouyancy when the shark approach. Thresher shark is shy so any major movement will drive them away. What we do is park and wait at about 20m and scroll to different site and wait again. That's how it work.
