  • I wish I could hear the instructor talking. Would prefer that over the music.

  • 1leora: not true. I take pilates classes on the reformed in a group of 3 - 5 all the time. It is more economical than a private seesion and lots of fun.

  • Reformer is never taught in a large class setting like this... Only the Mat is done in large groups.

  • @1leora - many studios offer classes in reformer with 4 - 5 people at a time.

  • Maravilhoso,parabéns!

  • i wish i have the money to afford reformer classes :(

  • @lo739lu, Just FYI, I teach Pilates and have a number of clients who are former gymnasts. They come to me for rehab. Pilates (and yoga) are great for preventative exercises, as well. Many of those clients tell me they wish they'd done Pilates while they were doing gymnastics, as the two compliment each other well and they perhaps could have avoided injury. On the flip side (sorry!) I have an older client who recently told me she did a cartwheel for the first time in years!

  • @lo739lu, check out "Pilates Sports Center, Advanced Pilates Cadillac Techniques". Look at the exercise when the client holds onto the straps, lifts up into a pike/teaser, flips up and over, and completely rotates around the shoulder girdle. Similar to rings. Joe Pilates also invented the apparatus to assist his clients in mat work. It's made of steel. So of course they can't move around as freely, but it was more to help rehabilitate injuries. Thanks for the debate! May the core be with you!

  • Lo739lu have you used a pilates reformer...... ???? it makes the exercises you would do on the mat harder by adding resistance !

  • Just saying, you can get that positioning and achieve the same, I would even argue greater, level of control with yoga without the need of the equipment. However if you enjoy equipment and really want a high level of control forget the Reformer and get yourself some parralettes and a pair of rings and take up gymnastic practices. Core strength and flexibility of a gymnast will never be matched by a pilates practioner.

  • @lo739lu , Just out of curiosity, have you done Pilates before? The Wunda Chair was invented by Joseph Pilates for Gymnasts. Go to your local Pilates studio and see if you can do a work out on it. It's difficult and forces you to pull everything in, otherwise, you would fly off! Yoga and Pilates are from two different schools of thoughts on how to use the belly. Big difference in fact! And it seems like the video was slowed down purposely so that people could follow along.

  • @SERENDIPSEAWA , Answer to your question, yes, I wasn't overly impressed. I have never met a gymnast that incorporates the use of pilates equipment such as the Wunda chair or the Reformer. As for the yoga, what is so different?, tightening the abdominal muscles is still tightening them. I challenge you to attempt both the dynamic and static excercises that are performed through the use of just rings, and I would be surprised if you found pilates is an equivalent.

  • @lo739lu i am recovering from injury and serious neck-spine problems at the moment after the 1,5 years unsuccessful treatments. and i am recovering only thanks to the pilates reformer exercises i have done a little bit less than 2 months! fortunately i have a wonderful coach, i'd never reached here alone. i have done yoga before, when i was well, but i am not able to do it at the moment. so yes, it is very valuable exercises and they are definitely not only abs exercises.

  • @apensiil I wonder how you managed to cure your problems. Almost every exercise shown in pilates stresses the back and neck to a dangerous level scientifically.

  • Great control and coordination the 5 of them have. It would have been great to see some extension and rotation pieces too!

  • I enjoyed watching this video for tip and just to see the level of control people can attain with this apparatus.

  • For all to you who have asked for the music source....we are working on it. Check back soon and Thankyou!
