I wish I knew more about the life and times of Tookie Williams. I can only comment on what I have read to date. If he did indeed kill four people especially a child too, then there are NO excuses. If the state rules in favour of his demise through the death penalty then isn't that justice. I hate the idea in principle but a death penalty seems just in this situation.

If you are anti-death penalty, that is fine. There are plenty of reasonable reasons to arrive at such an opinion. Notwithstanding, in this case, it made not one bit of difference if the governor was for or against the death penalty. The California Supreme Court had already made that judgement. The Governor's only role was from a legal, not personal standpoint.

Ignore the sappy propoganda. It was based entirely on legality. The govenor was not in charge(in any way shape or form) of imposing what he "thought was appropriate punishment." He also never repented for ANY of his murders....

Another brilliant post...the governor does not execute anyone, and is only allowed to offer a stay of execution if there is a compelling, legally based reason to do so...simply "being against the death penalty" is not a reason that he would have been able to viably use to stop the execution. From a legal viewpoint, the case was "rock Solid" and there was not a single shread of legally sound reasoning to stop the execution....
