  • Tasty licks and chewiness tubes!

  • first i want to say great video man and nice playing and second i need some help i am looking into buying some new tubes (pre-amp and power) for my marshall tsl 100. i was looking at mullard but whats the diffrence between the hard blue, medium green and soft red? oh and for pre-amp gt gold GT-ECC83-S do you think there are good choices ?

  • @1971Goldtop Ok I will stop by your channel and check out your video's,and you can never go wrong with Billy Gibbons!

  • @1971Goldtop Yeah I agree with skydog46-get a good attenuater like the THD that's specifically matched to the ohms your cabinet. But I have heard good things about Yellow Jacket converters-for instance you can buy one that converts EL-34'S to EL-84'S and I think their might be one that goes from 6L6's to EL-84's.Also nice playing there skydog46.

  • What kind of 2x12 are you running your Marshall into?

  • No don't put tubes that don't belong in the amp in there...even if people say you can....you'll stress out your trannies and other parts for sure.

Get a good ATTENUATOR!!!!!! Please. I'd hate for you to ruin a good Super Reverb!!! The amp is SUPPOSED to be clean....if you want dirty BLACK FACE amp tone....get a Princeton or a Deluxe Reverb. Don't ever EVER try to make an amp something it isn't. Buy an EL84 Marshall clone.....but don't dog the Super!!!

  • lmao get in to it eh

  • whats better marshall stock tubes or jj tubes...?what do u recommend?

  • guys i bought a marshall artiste 76 vintage...it has a superb clean sound and after one week it started to give a bit overdrive and the reverb isnt workin well...anybody knows what cud be the prob???

  • What is the tone difference between EL34's and 6L6's?

  • EL34s on average are much more in the mids and crunch is better than 6L6s. But like anything there are many varieties even in that range. I prefer NOS Teslas myself. If 6L6s I prefer RCA blackplates or JAN 7581As.

  • i hate el34's.....6l6 ftw!

  • 6L6s are great but you don't know shit if you don't like EL34s either. I suggest you get out more.

  • Great sound. Are you using any effects or pedals?

  • 25 watt greenbacks or 30 watt greenbacks?

  • Agree skydog. People who use the sm57 tend to get a fizzy sound.

  • I really don't understand people who post YouTube videos showing off their amp's tone by recording a video with a camera microphone. Complete waste of time. I recommend investing in an SM57 and cheap preamp.

  • It's 16 bit...and I don't know about you, but I can judge an amp much easier with a vid cam. mic than just a close mic'd amp with SM57. It sounds like it does in a room. That's all....I'm not advertising for the amp....just playing live....so you get a live feel. You know? No biggie.

  • fucking love that tone. and dude you fucking KICK ASS!!! no april fools joke.

Can you tell me how long youve been playing

  • dude come on its just the pentatonic scale blues licks. You'll get it eventually its not that hard.

  • i know some scales including the blues pentatonic, major, minor, and aeolian.

My problem is that I havent figured out a way to make a solo without having it sound like i am playing the same scale over and over again. If you or skydog has any suggestions I'll be glad to take them.

  • Well honestly man, everyone gets ideas from other people with a mix of their own. So learn your favorite artists solos and learn them verbatim. You'll end up using similar lick signatures in your solos instead of the same phrases you already know and you can "improve" on them as well. Skydog played a page lick from the song houses of the holy in this vid along with some allman brothers ect. These artists have almost undoubtably inspired his own licks as well.

  • So your saying that i can take a lick from a song i like and use it in one of my own songs or do i have to modify it a little bit so i can use it in a song?

  • You mean legally?....it depends....I don't know...I think you MAY have to probably mod it....so you don't get sued??

  • Lol I doubt he's making an album so I don't think he'd be sued. Even if an artist copied another artists licks I doubt he could even be sued. If it was a main song riff that might be a different story. You can copy licks and put them in your own stuff but thats only if you don't mind getting criticized for it. Just keep playing and practice licks from other artists so you can learn some tricks. You'll find your own style eventually.

  • 30yrs.

  • Hey man, thanks very much!! I've been playin a LONG time...almost 30yrs,

  • @theguitaristofchoice Hey thanks man!! I've been playing a long time. Probably 30 years.

  • NOS aint mullard...Its just the same name but the tube design is diff...

  • huh?

  • NVM I think I wasnt awake when reaction sorry. I thought I read somebody thought old mullards are the same as new ones.

  • i read this somewhere...that new mullard tubes just have the name but not made like the old mullard

  • @malmsteen80 It's just the name, the tubes are completely different and made in Russia if I am right.

  • @timjatomnee Yeah, the new Mullard tubes are just crap Russian tubes. I only use New Old Stock Mullards and other NOS valves.

  • not impressed with the tone. Not dissing your playing though.

  • probably a bad camera mic

  • You know what. I was probably being overly critical. This amp does the marshall tone that its designed to do. Great vintage plexi vib.

  • can i put these tubes in my fender hot rod deluxe?

  • not EL34s, but you can put NOS 12AX7s or 6L6s in there

  • Great, that's exactly the sound I think a Gibson should make!

    Love that vintage crunch!

  • Hey, nice playing dude. Do you have Mullard ecc83s in there? I have a JMP 2203 so can't afford 4 Mullard EL34s each time but the Mullard preamp valves rock!

  • Yes they do. So do the Brimar CV4004 I have!!!

  • Hey bro' thats some sweet pickin'. Awesome tone, gotta love the LP/Marshall combo. Quick question, what song is that around the 4:30 mark?

  • One Way Out. The Allman Brothers version...

  • sounds good, but you need to turn the master up!

  • Hi skydog! I'm thinking about replacing the stock tubes of my 1997 2x12 JCM900 100 watts combo. Somebody suggested tungsol 12AX7 preamp tubes and Mullard EL34 for the amp tubes. What do you recommend? and do you know about the mullard color issue? medium, hard, soft? which ones are you using? thanks a lot!

  • I'm using the NOS ones.

  • That is extremely nice tone, how much are the Mullard valves, and what Marshall is that?

  • it looks like a mid 70's 2204.

  • hey skydog how come ur not the opening vid on the main page of mylespaul forum yet lol im a member as well

  • Great playing and super sound!! good job as usual! thanks for posting all 3 vids!! Love 'em!
