Getting hurt by a joke made by someone else(including Shiva) depends on the person's sensitivity. Some people get hurt even for very small things whereas some can take anything what others say and give a counter reply to them.

As far as I've seen, Shiva does everything for fun not intending to hurt others.

Perhaps you've forgotten the episode where the guys took off Shiva's shirt buttons. Did he get hurt for that?
