  • Dats my bro joshua is goin to da olympics

  • my deadlifts been stuck at 455 for 3 months now any advice on how to increase it?

  • Coach, do you mind sharing how Josh has progressed so rapidly with deadlifting? I'm at the same BW but I've plateaued at 150kg and he doesn't seem to stop improving. Does he train with the 5/3/1 programme or is there some other secret? Would really appreciate a reply, thanks.

  • @adilghanty def not 531

  • @BROZKNOWS

Saw the 200+ the other day, unbelievable. Please share! How often does he deadlift a week?

  • @adilghanty until he hit 200+, there was some form of pulling movement done daily. Next milestone is 200 squat

  • @BROZKNOWS

Thanks. Best of luck for Josh, he'll soon be unstoppable.

  • wow, beautiful form and what a straight back, and no hitching, this is simply excellent form, as is typical of many olympic lifters

  • with a shrug @ the end...BEASTMODE! would you say hook grip mixed grip better for training?

  • @Leezy730 mixed? Never.

  • @BROZKNOWS Hook till the end of days. When I started to incorporate hook grips my dlift and cleans went up a lot. Check out my channel john I put a couple vids on of cleans and FS!

  • Go Josh! Thats my baby!

  • John, I'm going to buy a new barbel, Either the Rogue bar or Pendlay bushing bar. Do you have any experience with these 2 bars? and do you think centre knurling is important for squats?

  • thick, solid and tight lumbar arch, very rarely do i see someone pull with form as good as his at the gym. impressed

  • very impressive!

  • well done man, especially for your age, show the world how to powerlift

  • the wait for your website is killing me...

  • Coach, is it realistic to assume the new website will be up before the end of January?

  • nice!. not related to this video, but for how long was patrick mendes unaible to train since his rotator cuff injury?

  • nice i dont know if that 407 in the title is the 64kg translated into pound but i deadlifted 405lbs and then shrugged and my shoulders are perfectly fine except for my left but that was from something else

  • Was that a hook grip or just overhand? If soz did he use straps?

  • Hey Broz,

What do you think is the optimal heel height for olympic weight lifting shoes?

  • @bavneet ahh. good question. This is addressed in great depth on the new website.

  • @BROZKNOWS whats ur new website??

  • @BROZKNOWS sure you could basketball dunk!!!!!

  • Do you have your lifters hold there breath throughout squats and other lifts.

  • Out of interest, how tall is he?

  • The deadlift is in my modest opinion king of the power movents, add a shrug at the end and it's like icing on the cake : ).Great job.

  • Great job dude! Your athletes always keep making good progress. I wonder which 'internet-lifter' dislikes this vid, moron.

  • A really bad thing for our shoulder is to be seated in front of our computers like a monkey, not shrugging those weights. That is power, it really helped me in swimming.

  • whos your stongest lifter?

  • @magicapricot Pat, of course.

  • @BROZKNOWS p4p?

  • @magicapricot in the argument of P4P, it almost always favors lighter lifters. Josh will be passing Billy and Ian's best lifts this year.

  • @BROZKNOWS NICE!

  • @magicapricot pat's been hurt- but he aint dead

  • I know he lifts way more than me and he is very talented, but that doesn't mean that shrugging that amount of weight can possibly be good for your shoulders.

  • @AduhAwas Neither is lifting weights I guess.

  • @BROZKNOWS a more interesting question: Do your lifters explode up onto their toes while deadlifting? I saw some olers way back in the day practice this way

  • @tombennettpiano on pulls yes.

  • @AduhAwas Shrugs, google/youtube the exercise. Good for your Traps, shoulders, upperback.

    And DO YOU TRAIN?!

  • @AduhAwas So you admit to knowing nothing, yet still are giving advice and warnings? You must be great at parties.

  • @AduhAwas Of all the lifts I can think of, I cant think of one that would be less harsh on the shoulder joint than shrugging.

  • strong for his size, and such rapid progression. the 170kg from a couple weeks ago, which was a lot harder, to this. nice deadlift

  • when you have lifters deadlift would you say you coach a 'clean-style deadlift' i.e.have them try to hold the exact some positions as they would in a clean?

  • get em!. tight form. im trying to work on hook grip, but it feels so awkward at first

  • You've got "hook grip" in the title. Do you have your guys use that grip exclusively when pulling deadlifts or is it personal preference? I'm guessing you have them use it, as if it's a clean pull.

  • is rob adell your strongest lifter now?

  • @30sleepy10 no

  • 3xbw+ in 2012.

  • this guy is goin places

  • @BROZKNOWS

When you have a lifter deadlift is it in place or, or addition to squatting?

Also, do your lifters squat once-a-day? Or once-a-session (assuming two sessions a day)? I'm currently squatting once-a-day.

  • @AdamTParsons it varies, but the norm is: in addition to, and every session.

  • Broz, is there going to be a nutrition section on the new site? Myself, and I'm sure many others, would like to hear your advice on what has/hasn't worked for you over the years in regards to eating and diet. Strong lift as well.

  • @acon120 yes there will be.

  • @BROZKNOWS and when do you expect your new site to be out? thanks!

  • Great!

  • coach, why is he max deadlifting so much? Didn't he do this just a few weeks ago? curious.

  • @tombennettpiano because 6 months ago he cleaned 125, but got pinned with a 140 DL.

  • @BROZKNOWS Gotcha.

  • Great DL. Definitely 10-15kg more there (right now)

  • Damnit Broz. Everytime I PR in something you go ahead and post a video of someone half my bodyweight doing the same damn weight. I'LL NEVER WIN!

  • @RandomStevie guess you are going to have to step it up a bit. ;)

  • @RandomStevie Damn you can DL 185 already, Stevie? Need some work on those classic lifts :P

  • @EndlersaurusRex I have the powerlifting gene, my friend! First time somebody had me deadlift I was doing 125 :P.

  • @RandomStevie Heh interesting. My PB on DL is only 175 KG, but I haven't tried maxing on those in over a year. Just saying man, you squat almost as much as me and DL more, but I'm winning on clean and jerk (granted, I'm older, but smaller, heh). Get them up! :P

Now to everyone saying this is bad for the shoulders, shrugging 185kg is not a lot. Many gym rats who aren't particularly talented but just work out a lot can do >220kg

  • @EndlersaurusRex

That statement is horribly misguided. "Most"? Quite the opposite. "Most" average gym goers certainly cannot deadlift nearly 500 pounds. In fact, 400 is out of reach for the grand majority. Tell a gym rat or bro that you just deadlifted 400 pounds and 9 out of 10 times you'll get a "Holy shit man that's a lot" comment/stare.

Now, when it comes to real lifters who work with consistent programming and diet, I can see truth in this.

  • @RedWildz He was talking about shrugs, not deadlifts.

  • @RedWildz I was talking about shrugs, in which case 200kg+ is not particularly impressive for those who train the movement consistently. I don't do them more than a handful of times a year, and I've hit that margin before (granted, with straps).

  • I want to get that strong!

  • PLEASE HELP ME!

I had injured lower back half year ago doing clean and press.I had to heal for months. Now Im better, but my question is this.

I want to do powerlifting exercises like deadlift, squats, and weightlifting moves like clean and snatch. But I dont feel my lower back is strong enough for these exercises.Or in other words I am afraid I will get injured again and this time I will rupture my disc. What exercises should I do to strenghten my lower back and all the core? But mainly lower back.

  • @HermanHermes Good mornings and back extensions are good for lower back, bubkas (look up the pole vaulter for reference), weight V-ups and Russian twists for the front and obliques. Those will get you started.

  • @HermanHermes Just start light.

  • Almost three times bodyweight. Impressive!

  • honestly this dude is a beast!!! but I've got my eyes on him, we are going to meet my friend and i promise it will be a battle .. ONE DAY!!!

  • I'm 19, weigh about 160, and I will never be able to get to this guy's level. hahaha

  • i'll clean your gym clothes and be water boy if you let me come live in your basement and train with you.

  • Super strong

  • Is he using straps and if so what sort? When I use double overhand without straps I find the bar rolls out of my hands

  • @eburnsdaniel see title.

  • @eburnsdaniel The "straps" are his own thumbs. Google "hook grip" for more details.

  • @eburnsdaniel He's using a hook grip where the fingers wrap around the thumb, look it up for a picture, it stops the bar rolling like it does with a normal double overhand grip.

  • how often do you let your lifters deadlift?

  • @jow43 usually not often, but for Josh we've been working on it a bit more than normal.

  • @BROZKNOWS How often do you train it when you need to work on it? When you do train it, do you work up to a max then back off sets?

  • why do i even lift

  • shrugging risky? Sometimes I wonder if the people commenting actually train. Good pull for 140lb

  • @mycenean wow,all i asked was if rotating your shoulder like that after lifting dead is safe

  • @sh1tpickle f you were to actually "roll" the shoulders back then it could be harmful, however when the delts and traps go vertical then it's totally safe.

  • great pull josh, you guys are really taking it to us powerlifters it seems

  • why did he shrug that weight ?isnt that kinda risky for the shoulder?

  • @sh1tpickle Preparation for a clean. Not risky at all.

  • how the fuck?

  • Sick Deadlift!
