as I was almost out of character space a thought popped into my head ...they, the mushrooms, could have fallen off the vehicle and the pickers failed to notice ...imagine the shock when the 'shroomers find them missing ♥break
...I recently dropped a small bolete and looked for it right away ...failing to find it I retraced my path 3 times before I finally moved on
I'm curious with the volumes that you harvest how do you store them for eating after the foraging season
@gaiagale If they fell off a truck then they would have been in some kind of container. They were simply dumped. We dry almost everything but Chanterelles because in my experience they do not reconstitute worth a damn. So those we fry in olive oil with added onions until they are almost dry. We then bag them in half pound bags and freeze. They will last up to one year that way ....
@IslandShrooms ...ah yes : ) I fry mine 'til they are crispy (sometimes with onions) too ...perhaps I'll dry some if & when I arrive at the point of your kind of bounty ...Hope hope : ) thanks for the storing info
I'm curious about the shrooms that you found by the side of the road as to how you even spotted them ...it almost looked like a fresh drop ...why?!? would certainly come to my mind too ...I so sorry that you came upon that kind of 'shrooming ...my heart is breaking thinking if only I could have found the 'shrooms before they did and I wish I could have seen the 'drop' ...I'd have gloried in rescuing those fresh fruiting bodies
@gaiagale The dumped Lobsters had gone mushy from the rains or I would have picked them up. The White Chanterelles were not worth saving either ... Still irritates me when I think of it!
well a saving grace might be that the spores off of them from the rain might help new ones grow in that area. one could always hope so
