It's just a different kind of "sexy," IMHO. I think the boy-shorts (especially with the decorative belts) are pretty hot. That said, I would never request them in lieu of the two-piece (or single) spandex outfits, because those, to me, are the sexiest. Now, I really don't dig the pants or the long, mid-thigh shorts she sometimes wore at all, although they're both "passable" if she's barefoot and offering us a sexy, provocative pose.
