  • He reminds of Nick Lucas. Thanks.

  • dr37sam: You are the first person who knows of Nick Lucas, to say that. That's remarkable! Thanks!

  • This is absolutely superb! I first vied this video yesterday, and the song has pervaded my mind since!

This is a fantastic rendition, and I give you my sincere thanks for sharing it.

  • Corrie121: Some earworms are not all that bad, LOL. Yhanks for subscribing!

    Thanks a million for sharing.

  • blaintheking: Truth be told, this and "Dinah", by the Royal Society Jazz Orchestra, are the favourites of my modest channel portfolio. Happy that you're enjoying this!

  • Wonderful!!! Mr. Whitcomb and his group really get the spirit of this song--and clearly have FUN, the way it ought to be!

    OXO

  • Fantastic song! :)

  • Thank you so much, Karen. Youtube is community, and I think this song typifies some of it. Ian Whitcomb is the person we need to thank.

  • Brother I love this style of music and I subscribed. 5 stars awesome ! --:)Rod

  • Cliffbrock: Thanks, glad you enjoy it!

  • He's got a lovely voice, very reminiscent of the dance band crooners from the 20s and 30s. Very talented band, too.

  • 5 stars for this wonderful performance! Thanks a lot for the kind message. Very nice to make your acquiantance! :)

  • And thank you for visiting my site. I'm happy you enjoyed this!

  • TodaysStressTip: Jerry, this is wonderful information! I'm glad you enjoyed the arrangement.Ian Whitcomb is one of the world's experts on music from this era,and he earned a Grammy in 1998 for his musicology work on the scenes of the passengers in steerage in the film,'Titanic'. I have an early 1930s track (on a compilation CD) of 'Love Letters in the Sand'-I think it was Benny Goodman when he was a session performer and before the era of swing.I will be subbing your channel, need stress relief.

  • Bob, if you were meant to reply to TodaysStressTip, it's showing up as a comment, not a reply, which means he probably didn't get it :-(

But while I'm here, thanks for sharing. Wonderful sound, so relaxing and tuneful. Easy 5****

  • That's a terrific arrangement of that song, whose melody was written by J. Fred Coots (Love Letters in the Sand, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, et. al.) He was a friend of my father's and actually came to our house in NY on Christmas day in 1953 to drop off a box of toys for us kids. Great songwriter and a nice man. Thanks for sharing that.

    Jerry

  • I enjoyed listening. It's sooo wonderful. Glad you've shared this with me. Thank you. I'll pass this around to my friends. 5*****

  • ravishingV: I am so happy you enjoyed this! The meaning of life is to give life meaning. Youtube is community.

  • It is fantastic.

  • Gracias, Arcelina18!

  • I always loved the Brits and this Brit is Absolutely Fabulous and the song is Divine.

Thank you Bob, for the THRILL!

  • genia106: I am also a Brit lover, and thanks. May I recommend you search Youtube for one of my favorite British singers of the early 1930s, Al Bowlly singing "The Very Thought of You"? Just search the name or that tune. This was the ORIGINAL version of that famous song, composed by British bandleader Ray Noble. I grew up with British dance bands from the 1930s. That song is my #1 favorite song of my life. Happy listening! ---Bob

  • This is fantastic....Awesome..

    Five 'd

  • Escagedo3rd: Thanks, Eloy! It's nice to have you as a friend on Youtube.

  • This was great! This song is so nice... I enjoyed it and the video very much... Thanks for sharing it... FrAnK (5*****)

  • allshookup77: Thank you! This is classic "forgotten" Americana, although it's being sung here by an Englishman, one of the finest musicologists in the world for this genre. And thanks for subscribing, FrAnk !

  • allshookup77: I also see that you are my 50th subscriber! That's kind of a "millstone", um, milestone, ha-ha! You ain't seen nothin' yet.

  • Tom: This is one of my favorite songs by Ian and his band! You hadn't heard it before? I should have sent it to you! Thanks!

  • Bob,

I know I've heard it before, but not this particular video. It is so nicely done.

Not a hack amateur job like mine with a consumer grade camera, Parkinsons Desease, Tourette Syndrome, sneezing and coughing. I'll get better I hope!

    TW

  • Tom: I didn't film this. It was a DVD which Ian shared with me, and gave me copyright permission to post. Wish I could take the credit, but it's not mine! You can buy the DVD: check out the credits in my comment field.

  • Bravo! 5 BIG Stars!!!!!

  • HarborGuy: Thank you! Happy you enjoyed it! I have mamy more of Ian Whitcom's work to put up.

  • G Day TO MY MATE BOB CALL ME OLD FASHION. HE SOUNDS A LIILE BIT LIKE EDDY CANTER, WHO I LIKE, MUCHO

HEY AMIGO,1920s jazz. and the jazz singers like Al Jolson WERE MY FAVORITE SINGERS OF ALL TIME

  • rmv09: Delighted to make your acquaintance! Eddie Cantor? Maybe, in the sense that he was a tenor with a sense of humour. My channel will be dedicated to preserving this old style music, but with modern live performers instead of old records. Don't get me wrong, but I'm here to say this music is still alive. The modern interpreters may even be better than the originals, we shall see. Please listen to my other vids and tell me what you think. Just thrilled to have you on board!

  • You are right great, lets wait and see,.I agree

    my friend

    "Have a good one!

    Roger

  • Ian sings a truly great modern version of this!

  • kspm01: Right! My brother, who lives in Hawaii, says it's almost hapa-haole. Sakarow does a mean slide guitar. I agree, it's modern! And have you noticed that some of the hottest stars on Youtube are now playing ukulele? I'm thinking "LeSaMilano", I'm thinking "Jaaaaaaa" as a prime example, with hundreds of thousands of hits to her site.

  • Indeed, and I noticed that in general the 1920's have become a bit more present in mainstraim culture and fashion of today. I'm not complaining.

  • kspm01: LOL, I'm not complaining, either! I've been waiting for this moment all my life. Call it my modest "revenge".

  • Ian has three new fans. Great stuff

  • EagleJonesMcBride: And you three have a new fan in Ian Whitcomb; or so I e-mailed him this evening. Cheers!

  • Thanks for sending this video to me! I always get a big kick out of Ian. 5 Stars!

  • ttub1941: Thanks, Tom, for the kind words. Ian Whitcomb is something of an icon, isn't he? I think he's fab. Stay tuned. Plenty more where that came from!

  • Bob,

Icon? I'd say! Quite so! Indeed!

I've always liked Ian and I haven't been fortunate enough to catch him in a live performance for a few years. I hope I get an opportunity before long.

Thanks for posting your Ian recordings!

    Cheerio,

    Tom

  • tdub1941: Another Ian Whitcomb song comin' at ya tonight! I spoke with Don Neely, of Royal Society Jazz Orchestra, the weekend before last, and he's of course a fan. Maybe we can get a West Coast Youtuber/trad. jazz/hot dance event going one day. Just for Youtube. Wouldn't that be just the cat's meow?

  • Yeah! All the Cats'n jammers will show up! Sounds like fun!

    Tom

  • Great tune! A little like something Dan Hicks might play.

And it DOES have a certain "Hapa Haole" sound to it.

  • toochai: Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks--wonderful comparison!

There will be many more videos to come. Thanks for watching, bro', and Aloha!

    ---Bob

  • So this is what you've been working on, looks and sounds great!

  • Thanks! More to come...

  • Thanks Bobchai,

    Next relaxing tune!

  • dogpatchdebbie: Glad you enjoyed it! There's sort of a Hawaiian flavor here.

  • Nice one, just thing for a Sunday afternoon..5*

  • deckthree: Thanks! There will be more coming. I had some troubles translating the DVD from a broadcast format to this one. I may tweak this later, because the resolution of my original disc is almost hi-def. Glad you enjoyed it!

  • This music reminds me to the one that has my mom in vinyl disks that belonged to my grandmother. Very beautiful. Gaby.

  • pili2255: Thank you! Nice to have the first viewer who is from El Ecuador!
