Mom sung with Hank Snow and she knew the Solemn Old Judge, String Bean, Marty Robbins.. Hank used to come over when I was young, and drink OJ and Vodka and sing for us at the ol Kitchen Table!! He called my Grandmother "Mother".
Being from Kngsport myself... I know Ralph very well and I'm glad to see that Ralph is finally getting the respect he deserves.... He is really a great man !!!
Is this actually a recording from the "Stanley Brothers" era (which ended in 1966 with the death of Ralph's brother Carter), or is this from the time that Ralph Stanley became a solo act? If it's actually a Stanley Brothers recording, it seems odd that it was recorded with only Ralph Stanley on vocal. Carter Stanley's incomparable lead vocal was usually heard on the brothers recordings, and I only hear Ralph's tenor voice here.
I bought the soundtrack to "O Brother, Where Are't Thou." It was the first time I'd ever heard of Ralph Stanley. I've since purchased more of his work.
@Zebra902 That's nice to hear. I'm glad you like Ralph and his music. His vocals and his banjo style is one of the most hard-driving styles that there is. He inspired me to pick a banjo, other than Earl Scruggs, Dock Boggs, Don Stover, and Charlie Poole.
I'll meet you on God's golden shore.....
