Cash for clunkers was a scam perfectly good sound vehicles was put to waste for what we have a dodge ant problems that come up we fix it or the jeep food job in saving it you don't see those driving on the street
There was a true idiot that brought it in for trade in!! A 4x4 is worth in that condition as is about min. $4500, and cleaned up w/things working well, no major dents, etc, could fetch about 7gs and goes up from there, depending.
i cried watcing the video but after reading the comments was relived and i am happy its saved i myself have a lil red dakota and a shelby that only has 9k original miles its sad about our own gorvernment wants to ruin history by destroying the first truck to be convertible from the factory
we shouldn't crush the "clunkers", we should crush the people who traded them in. that way nothing of value is going to waste and it might actually make the world a better place.
These trucks are extrodinary....my dad and I have rescued three of them one is now a show truck being primed for a 5.9l v8 (360) then the other one is a 4x4 5 speed 318 and THIS is where it gets awsome...my truck (the other two are my dads) but mine is a 96 so it has the computer in it of the 2000's its a 4x4 5 speed and its FACTORY colour is " Pearlecent olive metalic green) its truly a gorgeous truck...it even says on the sticker ont he door that that is the original colour
i agree with this dude, im actually hoping to be buying one of these tomorrow, they are nice trucks, and this guy that threw this away, way undersold it
uuuuugly! And that interior sucks. I especially hate the dash and the window switches that are flat up and down against the door panels! Ugh! Alot like the early 90s chevys. *puke*. I need an early to mid 90s ford ranger or S-10.
its alive?! thats amazing news. I think new laws should be in place, so you have to show your automotive knowladge at the dmv. If you show high marks on this test, you are given a specific license that permits you to own a rare or classic vehicle. sure, classic car prices will sky rocket, but at least it will be far less likely for a great vehicle to see such a pointless fate.
Government is never getting their filthy paws on my Reg Cab '03 Dakota 4x4, with the same "fuel hungry" 3.9L V6. Although fuel injected, she still burns like its a small V8. And I wouldn't have her any other way. Great trucks indeed. You said it best.
I still can't figure out why people even like Obama. The only "change" he's been doing is change for the worst. C4C was a horrible program and I'm glad it's over. The part that really gets me is believe it or not. My grandpa god rest his soul is the reason those Dakota Convertibles even exist. He was a bigshot at chrysler and came up with the crazy idea of putting a convertible top on a dakota. He'd be disappointed if he ever saw this. It sure as hell makes me angry I tell you that.
I haven't seen the interior of a Dakota from that era in a long time. It brought back memories of the Dakota my dad had and I "stole" for the better part of a year! :)
Elections have consequences. It's time we take them more seriously than an American Idol finale. People need to stop sitting around watching David Letterman and The Daily Show and thinking they're informed.
Yea, but it had a noble death in fighting the heat and droughts caused by Global Warming.
Heat and drought are mischievous problems because they will even manifest themselves as bitter cold, blizzards, and intense rain! Thank god we have gods like Algore and Obama to save us!
Oh geez! this truck is in better shape than my own dakota.
And to think, the american cash for clunkers forbids you to even take stuff like bumpers and stuff off it, while the Canadian verson allowed the auto wreckers to take whatever the hell they wanted off of them. Damn! this isn't even my truck and even I'm pissed off over this waste.
This program is retarded!!! Just like breaking a window so that you can have someone fix it for you and circulate money that way.... Dumasses, whoever thought of this!!!
as for the convertible I had to buy it with a scrap slip but received a builder's title from my home state just this week. this brings my dodge truck collection up to 7 , I have a 70' Dodge Dude ,a 78' Lil Red Express, a 79'Lil Red Express, two Shelby Dakotas one red and one white and two 89' Dakota sport convertibles one 2wheel drive and a 4x4
Gen 1 Dakotas are my favorite. I always wanted a Shelby and a convertible later I began to appreciate the Lil Red Dakotas , but not right away as the Original Lil Red Express eclipsed them in my youthful opinion. As a result of the recent "clunkers" program I've rescued 2 Shelby's ,one red sand one white, and this 4x4 convertible . I rescued the Shelby's in Arkansas and had no problem getting salvage titles on those trucks .
well I just may have good news about this truck. I followed public records and found it at the salvage yard it was sold to (I won't mention their name ) you can guess why and purchased it as a salvage sale for 2000$ , I'm certain it is the same truck as all the details match from your videos. I want to thank you for this posting as it brought this truck to my attn. I have also rescued 2 Shelby's a red and white one now all I need is a Lil Red Dakota and I can eventually die happy.
Say what you want about Dodge, but have respect for a rare ride! Only 909 of these trucks were made!! I want one of these. BTW. Only 8 of these were made in 1991!
We voted these imbeciles into office, so as a result of this travesty, we need to vote their dumb asses out! Not a truck fan, but I can't stand this program as it is destroying so many great cars! Plus, it is so incredibly wasteful and spiteful towards the less fortunate.
Actually if you had a car that was a true "clunker" your car probably didn't qualify to be traded in under the program , if your are poor or underprivileged you don't qualify to take part either. hell I thought the leftist in this country were supposed to look out for the poor . There is a bright side folks ,as most government programs this one is mismanaged as well ,alot of the nicer cars are being sold under salvage title when they hit the junkyards at least here in Tennessee
i agree with you man, the whole program is a waste though, not just this truck. i bet that out of all of the cars that were traded in under this program, not even 1/4 were what we defined as "clunkers" before this bullshit program came along. and ill bet a little more than half were nicer cars than what me and my family have right now. fuck obama and his aides, this program was absolutely tasteless and assinine.

I've got a dakota like this and that's not nearlly in as good conditon. This one has been well taken care of. I love my truck and I love my dodges. I hope to have mine restored soon and it will be a great collectors item. R.I.P
Any hint where this truck is? There are quite a few rare parts on the convertibles that I could use (mine's in good shape but always looking). I'd like to follow this thing to the salvage yard and see what I can get off it.

I tried to buy it but the dealership wouldn't let me and they destroyed it. I wish I could help, but that's all the info I have. Hold onto yours!

those engines are easy to find down here in california and rebuild them also. I just upgraded my V6 to 318 in 1990 2wd man its tight fit for front of pump to rad.
@LEBatte You made my day! Good luck with the picture, hoping you're planning on restoring it with another engine. I'd love to get my hands on one of these trucks.
Way too many quality used cars got destroyed by this stupid program. All the junk heaps are still on the road because the people driving them can't afford a new car even with the rebate. Anyone that thought this program would work was a moron.
@LEBatte I thought I'd leave a update , At the time I bought this truck the transmission has started slipping just a little . the motor had escaped the drill as the salvage yards that received these cars rarely were subject to oversight . I bought it with a salvage bill and had the truck titled in Mississippi . I overhauled the transmission and buffed the paint and lined the bed . it has been sold to a fellow mopar fan in Florence Al.
That makes me sick that this happens to rare trucks such as these, id take that truck and change the VIN tags on it so it wouldnt be crushed (yes i know its elligal to do that).
And to rompn4x ive read that afew syclones have seen the same fate as this dakota.....
sad part is that even your "American" car is assembled in mexico. Acura and Lexus are designed and assembled here in the USA. Until GM and Dodge and all of them retards become interested in the quality of the car that the buyer recieves, they will always be inferior and beggers for money.
you really wouldnt be able to do much with it anyways. you wouldnt be able to register it, plate it, or drive it. this sucks, i wish there was something you could, this is an awful waste. the government should made certain limitations on rare vehicles. they shouldnt destroy any cars that still have value, but this thing is really really shameful. i bet the damn thing is worth more than 4,500 to a car collector
i didnt even know their was such a thing. this is really sad, this must be a really rare truck that i didn't even know existed and they are going to crush it. they are ruining america's automotive legacy. whats next a GM typhoon/syclone or a ford lightening.
WHAT! Who the hell would trade a dakota convertible!!? I have only seen one in person, one of the coolest trucks ever. Makes me sick to think this truck is on its way to the crusher. Fuck this program!
I felt the exact same way. These things are awesome. I can't believe it's going to be destroyed and there is nothing I can do to save it. Literally the only thing I could do is steal the truck.

you really wouldnt be able to do much with it anyways. you wouldnt be able to register it, plate it, or drive it. this sucks, i wish there was something you could, this is an awful waste. the government should made certain limitations on rare vehicles. they shouldnt destroy any cars that still have value, but this thing is really really shameful. i bet the damn thing is worth more than 4,500 to a car collector

i didnt even know their was such a thing. this is really sad, this must be a really rare truck that i didn't even know existed and they are going to crush it. they are ruining america's automotive legacy. whats next a GM typhoon/syclone or a ford lightening.
THIS HAS TO STOP

Literally the only thing I could do is steal the truck.

i bet that thought has crossed your mind. but if you steal it then what?? THIS STINKS, this vehicle should go in a muesum
